Yankees Sign Soriano

Blueshirt

Occasional Pre-Show
He's a great reliever, one of the best actually and I'm sure he will be a great eventual successor to Mo. However, there are a few major problems with this signing.

1. Yankees now forfeit their 1st round draft pick for an 8th inning guy. Is this worth it?

2. Small market guy is now playing for a huge market, Kyle Farnsworth anyone?

3. It's all well and good that the Yankees have one of the best bullpens in the league. However, in order to utilize it the team will have to have a lead in the 8th inning. The yankee rotation looks like crap right now. In order to utilize this bullpen, the yankees will have to be winning games 6-5 or 5-4 going into the 8th. I also believe that the yankee offense isn't good enough to do this every night especially against the quality arms in the AL East.

Thoughts?

Oh My GOD, not a Fist Round Pick! This isn't Football or Basketball where a first round pick will start for you that year. Most, if not all, of the picks will spend a majority of there first years in the farm system. The Yanks are interested in winning now, and giving up a first round pick to get the leading save getter last year is a steal for them.

This is a good point. We have seen many players who are top stars in the small marked come the NY and stink. I think the only thin that the will help Soriano is that he is the 8th inning guy, so maybe he wont feel as much pressure as a starter, or position player would

Of course the offense won’t be able to do it every night, they play a million games, no offense could do it. But the Yanks are still a very good team, and there will be those games close in the 7th 8th inning, and it will be very helpful to have a guy like Soriano get you to Moe to close out the came.
