WWE vs. TNA Interpromotional Event: Good or Bad Idea?

Klown_Karnage

Reading through the post on the Booker T vs Shawn Michaels, it got me to thinking about something I'd love to see. I'll preface this by saying I know that it will likely never happen and I'm dreaming here...but permit those of us who'd like it to happen our dreams and just suspend your disbelief here for a moment.

Supposing the WWE and TNA got together for one special big PPV (possibly a series of two) to be a WWE vs. TNA sort of event. If you'd had some say in this, who would you book for such an event and how would you have it end up? What are the WWE vs. TNA matchups you'd like to see. (I'm also including the option of building storylines in both companies with guest spots so that the PPV will mean that much more.)

Obviously, as has been mentioned before, Booker T vs. HBK would be great, but as to the others...

Samoa Joe vs. Randy Orton: A vicious and brutal battle between these two. I think I'd have it be a straight-up singles match, but I don't know how this one would end. My first instinct says Randy Orton...but then Samoa Joe has his own store of raw rage and dirty tricks to call upon. Could go either way.

Kurt Angle vs. John Cena: Yeah, I know it's been done before...and it's always worked, in my opinion.

Kane vs. Abyss (Monsters Ball Match): Need I go into detail as to why this one should happen? These two would make it a bloodbath.

Rey Mysterio vs. Homicide: Latino vs. Latino, Mask vs....well, technically Mask with those bandannas Homicide wears, Cruserweight vs. X-Division, it's sure to be a helluva match. If not Homicide, then Suicide.

Legacy vs. Beer Money: There's an awesome match waiting to happen here, and plenty of dirty tricks to be uncorked.

A.J. Styles vs. Triple H: I have no doubt that this match would be both brutal and phenomenal.

Cody Deaner vs. Hornswoggle (Obligatory Comedy Match): This one has some great potentials for comedy spots...and I'd have Horny win it by trickery.

Well, there's mine, how about y'all?

If this were to ever happen, while I love your match-ups, Vince is too stubborn. He would never do a pay per view with a company who he hasn't run out of business yet and is working to be the top competition. Not too mention, Vince would obviously want his guys to go over in each match, just to show that they are better.

But if itwere to happen I would put the following matches :

Open with a Tag Team Turmoil match featuring Legacy, Beer Money, JeriShow, and Motorcity Machine Guns. This would be a great matchup with all the different styles from each team included. I would have have Beer Money somehow pull out the victory.
Then I would have Abyss vs Kane, as you said, a Monster's Ball match would be epic. Of course in the end though, Abyss would be the one on the tacs. The next match would be Evan Bourne vs A.J. Styles, a true showcase of high flying cruiserweight/X talent. Next I would follow up with John Cena vs Hernandez, have the two big men battle it out.

Then it would be Triple H vs Matt Morgan vs Kurt Angle vs Randy Orton vs CM Punk vs Lashley in a six man match to showcase the Main Event talent of both.

Next would be HBK vs Kevin Nash, it would be a clash of the former bodyguard vs the former cocky up and comer, and two best friends.

I of course would close out the show, with two legends of the business, Undertaker vs Sting.

although it would be epic, like what SC said, vince WOULD NEVER agree to it unless his guys go over in every match to prove there better and I doubt Dixie carter would be happy with that unless she has a plan that it would be great publicity for TNA to be facing the big dogs WWE

WWE has done some shows with Superstar Bill Gram and Bob Backland defending the WWE title in a match with NWA World Champions Harley Race and Ric Flair. I think such a event can porduce a lot of cash for both sides, and it would be like the super bowl for pro wrestling. It would only need both sides to get together. Truthfully I don't think it would ever happen, and I don't think that TNA would be bought out by WWE, since they are actually beginning to make money, so that would rule out another invasion storyline.

If they did such a event here's the card I would like to see.

BG James and Kip James vs. Shawn Michaels and Triple H
I think that having The New Age Outlaws vs. DX can generate a lot of interest.

John Cena vs. Samoa Joe
With WWE's superman vs. The Nation of Violence taking in each other, such a match could make the main event if this ever happened.

Jeff Jarret vs. Randy Orton
Double J is the founder of TNA, so who else would WWE's biggest heel want to take on?

The Great Kali vs. Kevin Nash
The two company's big men. I wouldn't make this a very long match, just something for people who like big men wrestling.

Kurt Angle vs. Christen
I would have this match because of the way MEM beat down Christen on his last TNA appearance, so this would be his chance to gain revenge on Angle man vs, man.

Sting vs. The Undertaker
Come on, who never wanted to see these men wrestle?

AJ Styles and Christopher Daniels vs. Even Bourne and Rey Mysterio
We need some awesome high flying action to make up for the big man match I made earlier XD

CM Punk vs. Abyss
I could see Punk make some awesome promos on the mental Abyss.

What I think would be better is a combination WWE/TNA PPV, so instead of say HBK vs Kevin Nash have a set of matches like the following:

Shawn Michaels, Triple H, Kevin Nash and Booker T Vs Team 3D and Legacy

Chavo Guerrero with Hector Guerrero Vs Santino with Tara

and other tag/3way/4way/king of the mountain matches etc featuring the talent from wwe AND tna.

BTW what kind of ring would they use the 6 side or 4 side

Jeff Jarret vs Triple H

Sting vs The Undertaker - Everyones Dream Match

CM Punk vs Samoa Joe - good ole ROH rematch

John Cena vs Bobby Lashley

A.J Styles vs John Morrison - who wouldnt want to see these guys go

Chris Jericho & Big Show vs Scott Steiner & Booker T - Tag Champs vs Tag Champs

Rey Mysterio vs Daniels

Kurt Angle vs Shawn Michaels - They had a great rivalry back in 2005

TLC
Edge & Christian vs Team 3D

Monsters Ball Match
Abyss vs Kane

Terrible idea that would never work in practice. Plus these kind of events never drew that much to begin with. I remember WCW doing quite a few of them with All Japan that ended up failing pretty badly. Plus the only way Vince would do one of these is if TNA agrees to have AJ Styles job to Hornswoggle if you know what I mean. But lets say we live in a perfect world for a second. If this kind of an event happened I would want to see matches that we never saw before with a little bit of worked shoot in it, so this is how it would go:

Main Event
No Holds Barred
John Cena Vs Samoa Joe

Stable Vs Stable
Orton & Legacy Vs MEM (Booker T, Scott Steiner & Kevin Nash)

Champion Vs Champion
Kurt Angle Vs CM Punk

Settling The Score
DX Vs Kip James & BG James

Clash of the Legends
The Undertaker Vs Sting

X Division Challenge - only 6 sided ring match
Homicide, AJ Styles & Daniels Vs Kofi Kingston, John Morrison & Evan Bourne

Street Fight
Jeff Jarrett w/ Dixie Vs Shane McMahon w/ Vince

Divas Vs Knockouts
Mickie James & Melina Vs The Beautiful People

Tag Champions Match
Beer Money Vs Chris Jericho & Big Show

Really the only people who would benefit from this would be TNA, they would gain more exposure through the likes of HBK vs Styles/Daniels. This would be a terrible result for WWE, sharing their fanbase with TNA wold only damage them in the short and long run.

Though I have always thought of seeing matches like Styles vs Mysterio, Styles vs HBK, Eric Young vs Shelton Benjamin.... etc, etc.

what an idea, firstly i would have shelton benjamin vs john morrisson vs daniels vs alex shelley vs chris sabin.

then kane vs abyss like everyone else monsters ball

then in a six sides if steel i would have triple h vs kurt angle vs jeff jarrett vs chris jericho vs john cena for heavy weight belt

matt morgan vs big show

sting vs undertaker to see who is the true phenom/icon of what they do.

and main event i would have hbk vs aj styles in a hell in acell match, and for the lite entertainment, hornswoggle cody deaner vs chavo and santino. and 4 the women i would go with mickie james vs trish vs lita vs gail kim vs the beautiful people vs awesome kong

Ultimate X - Amazing Red, Punk, Morrison, Suicide, Benjamin, Rey Mysterio spot fest to get the crowd going

Kurt Angle vs Jack Swagger two technical amateurs their styles would go great together

Sting vs Undertaker icon vs icon

Monsters Ball Abyss vs Kane vs Batista vs Matt Morgan vs Mike Knox vs Umaga vs Mic Foley - meed somewhere to put these big men

Legacy vs Hart Dynasty vs MCMG vs Beer Money the future of wrestling

John Cena vs Samoa Joe the stars of the company

HHH vs Jeff Jarrett - son-in-law vs owner maybe throw in Dixie and The McMahons as managers

Rated RKO & Big Show vs Booker T, Scott Steiner, Mr. Anderson - Edge & Booker had great matches , Show vs Steiner as the muscles and Orton & ANderson personal problems would make this a great match

Chris Jericho vs AJ Stylez two maineventer cruiserweights that could put on some good spots but make it a technical match also

Evan Bourne vs Daniels two future stars that are highfliers

Kevin Nash vs HBK - star vs bodyguard - good match between two friends

While I would love to see this happen Vince & Dixie's egos would never let it happen. There would be conflicts over whose brand would win the matches. (Jeff would never let HHH go over him and HHH would never put him over)

Good Idea!!

Creating “Dream Matches” is like sex. I’ve done this many times before, but I still get excited every single time. Okay, let’s see now, what do we have here…

Main Event Mafia vs. WWE Elite (or WWElite, I couldn’t think of a better name) Survivor Series 10 – Man Elimination Tag Team Match
Kurt Angle, Kevin Nash, Samoa Joe, Booker T., Scott Steiner Vs. John Cena, CM Punk, Christian (revenge is sweet), Chris Jericho, and Big Show

Or we can break it down to 4 matches…

1. WWE Champion, John Cena Vs. TNA Champion, Kurt Angle

2. World Champion, CM Punk Vs. Legends Champion, Kevin Nash

3. ECW Champion, Christian Vs. X – Division Champion, Samoa Joe

4. WWE Tag Team Champions, Chris Jericho and Big Show Vs. TNA Tag Team Champions, Booker T. and Scott Steiner

As for the undercard...

5. Elimination Chamber
Randy Orton Vs. Undertaker Vs. William Regal Vs. Sting Vs. Matt Morgan Vs. A. J. Styles

6. Vince McMahon vs. Jeff Jarrett

7. DX vs. DX MSG Incident 2?? Hug it out!!
HBK, Shawn Michaels and the Game, Triple H vs. Road Dogg, B. G. James and Bad @$$, Kip James

8. Women’s Champion, Michelle McCool Vs. Divas Champion, Mickie James Vs. Knockouts Champion, O. D. B.

9. Royal Rumble with 5 Raw SuperStars, 5 Smackdown SuperStars, 5 ECW SuperStars and 15 TNA SuperStars

10. Bra and Panties Match Stephanie McMahon vs. Dixie Carter

It's a good pipe dream, but it will never happen. If it were to happen, I fail to see how it would be of any benefit to the WWE. Now, a lot of people say that TNA isn't well known even to the general wrestling audience. So, if that's true, then having them go up against the WWE is only going to give them more exposure and, since they're competition, why would Vince McMahon want to do something like that? Going by the same theory, revenue by the show would be generated primarily by the WWE. Why do an interpromotional event with someone that doesn't bring as much to offer to the table as you do? So the WWE would draw most of the fans and money for the gig, TNA would get a hefty portion of that plus they'd get exposure via the most largest and most well known pro wrestling company in the world.

TNA would, of course, insist on a good number of the matches going their way, the exposure they'd receive and a hefty chunk of change to go with it. Once more, there's absolutely nothing in this for the WWE. And if there's nothing in it for the WWE, Vince isn't going to go for it. Now, speaking as a fan, I'd be quite excited about such an event. I know a lot of fans don't like to think about wrestling from a business standpoint, but everything either company does they do in the hopes of, first and foremost, making money. Anybody that thinks otherwise really needs to pull their head out of their ass. They don't exist to cater to the whims of fans, which can often change like the weather does. The only way that this could remotely happen would be for TNA to agree to allow WWE wrestlers to go over in all, or nearly all, matches on the card thereby showing a percieved superiority of them and their product. Of course, TNA would never agree to such a thing as it would only make them look bad.

So, WWE/TNA Interpromotional Event: nice little thing to dream about for the fans but a bad idea from a business POV as there are lots of egos, and not just Vince McMahon's despite everyone wanting to think of him as the devil incarnate, that won't be pushed aside.

You could get some really good matches from an inter company PPV, not sure who I'd book for it though. I love Tag Wrestling, but I'm not all that impressed with any Tag team in the WWE at the moment. I'd love to see some of the teams from ROH go head to head with some TNA teams.

But the likes of Orton, Jericho, Edge, HHH, Michaels, Taker, Cena could have good matches with the likes of Sting, Angle, Styles, Joe, Booker T, Daniels, Kaz (but not fecking Suicide) in pretty much any combination.

I love the idea of an inter promotional Royal Rumble as well.

This thread reminded me of a match I saw on YouTube, and I thought some of you guys might like it.

On the inter promotional theme

Matt Sydal (now Evan Bourne) Vs. AJ Styles.
