SHALL WE BEGIN?
...or Superstars.

apparently a new WWE program, one hour in length, that will be shown in primtime on the WGN network.

ok so a litany of questions here. What the fuck is this. WHO the fuck has WGN network. WHY the fuck would WWE do this??

Apparently its supposed to have superstars from all 3 brands on it. Makes me think itll merely be a recap show, as I cant see them trying to overbook a program that is going to inevitabley be fairly obscure, at least for a WWE program. So what do you guys think of this?? will you watch?? any interest at all???

Sounds to me like SUNDAY NIGHT HEAT

there gonna review RAW and ECW
and hype up Smackdown(since its gonna air thursdays)

they'll have 2 or 3 matches with the bottom mid card to build up wrestlers
its pretty much gonna give Jimmy Wang YAng, Jamie NOble, Tommy Dreamer a place to wrestle

Apparently it's a decent source of income so the WWE can stop it's double-tapings that it's been pulling off in the past few months. But ya, pretty much sounds like a new version of Sunday Night Heat to me.

There's little reason to make the superstars work yet another show in addition to their house show schedules and tapings. That'd just be expecting too much. I think that this will most likely be what LiveWire was in the 90s: a recap show to hype the WWE, and maybe it'll have one match a week from old faithfuls and new guys alike, nothing spectacular but TV time none the less. I don't have WGN, nor have I ever heard of it, so I won't be watching it...

...but whatever makes the WWE happy. :p

I'm excited about this. Do I think it will probably fail miserably? Most likely, but will it maybe mean I get to see guys like Yang Wang, Noble, Gurerro, and others who are just jobbers wrestle?

I always like Sunday Night Heat just for the fact that I enjoy alot of the undercard guys that don't get time to shine. I guess they think they will be able to make a proft(since that is what WWE is all about)but I don't know. They will probably tape it after smackdown like ECW or something to keep the cost low. In the end it will probably be gone in less than a year or just be one giant clip show and another way to promote Raw & Smackdown with the rare match involving a underutilized guy.

I basically have zero interest in this show. The WWE and TNA combined provide me 7 hours of brand new wrestling every week. On weeks with pay pay views, I usually watch 10 hours of wrestling. That is quite a lot. So why would I want to see yet another show? Too much wrestling is overkill for me. And if this is meant to be a recap show, then I ask, what the fuck for? We already have WWE Experience which shows highlights from all 3 shows every week. I never watch it, but I'm aware it's still on, at least in Australia it is.

If it's showing matches involving the undercard guys that can't get time on TV, then it's also a waste. After all, isn't ECW used for new talent as well as guys that can't get on TV on Raw or Smackdown (eg. Paul Burchill). This show just isn't needed, and I have no desire to watch it. The WWE is never satisfied in terms on the number of shows they air. Instead of adding another program, they should try to improve the ones they already air.

So all in all, this show is absolutely pointless and just isn't needed or wanted for that matter. The WWE will literally do anything for money, and the decision to air this show certainly solidfy's that statement.

We actually used to have WWF/WWE Superstars here and the way it worked was pretty much like Heat.

It would be a recap from Raw/Smackdown and there would be two or three matches, usually with a main event of RTC v Too Cool.

It is good if you miss raw/Smackdown/ECW and want to catch some highlights, but other than that there's no real reason to watch the show, assuming WWE just do it in the same way as they did with the previous inacrnation of Superstars.

Can't say I'm too excited about this. My whole thing would have been to slap another hour onto ECW and make it a legit brand, or can the thing altogether. I think if the reports are true, WGN is putting too much money into this to be more then a simple recap show.

For me, it's over exposure. Now we're going to have the WWE on 4 nights a week, and that's not including weeks when we get a SNME or a Pay Per View, it's simply over kill at this point in my opinion.

This may have a negative effect on the ratings for RAW, SD! & ECW. Look at it this way, with those 3 shows that's 3 nights a week where we get the WWE. It's 4 with a PPV, and 5 if SNME is on. That's just too much. The WWE needs to give fans a chance to look forward to the next show, and by having new programming on pretty much everyday just means people aren't going to look forward to it, and will think if they miss one show then it doesn't matter because they'll get WWE the next day, so people may start to skip shows more, lowering ratings. If anything, the WWE should just add another hour onto ECW to give more exposure to wrestlers not getting a chance at the moment. That way, it gives them the exposure to the fans while also helping ECW to become a legit brand.

I get WGN so i'll watch it just to see what it is. I really only suspect it to be for lower end wrestlers to job to lower-midcard wrestlers. But i really dont see the point in making an entire new show just for that. If i was them i'd just take the jobbers and throw them on ECW. That way ECW wrestlers would have some new talent to work with and the jobbers would have a chance to be on tv. I dont think it would hurt anyone by having Val Venis, Scotty Goldman, Ryan Braddock, Hawkins & Ryder, etc on ECW.

I actually have WGN down here in Florida, and from what I understand quite a bit of the country does. Or should. WGN is a superstation (hence the name WGN Superstation being announced on the station itself) much like TBS or whatever. I do agree with the previous posts that it'll be more of a midcard showcase which I wouldn't be opposed to. The first time I saw the Hardy Boyz win as a tag team was on Sunday Night Heat. Before that I kept watching them get squashed on Shotgun and stuff. If it stays around long enough we might see some promising up and comers that can work their way up rather than get tossed onto Raw or Smackdown only to Flair Flop on their faces and mire in futility for 2 months before getting released.

I think we used to have Superstars in Canada, an hour long recap show that happened I believe on Saturday mornings. The few times I did watch it, it was similar to heat, except at the very end they would show a match with the unknown guys. Producing this show would be incredibly cheap for the WWE, and would give people who missed Raw a chance to catch up with what they missed. All they need to do is throw in another dark match involving the undercard wrestlers, tape it, and throw in a recap portion, maybe with Todd Grisham interviewing someone once in a while. It is really not worth watching steadily, but if you have nothing else to do Saturday mornings, it would be a little treat.

I think this show will be a great idea if they use the mid card wrestlers that ain't used & it's just wrestling & no recap show. It's most likely gonna be like Heat & the production won't cost that much. It all depends on how long the show will actually be though.

I know that everyone has a negative opinion of this for the most part but what if its something different. Lets say they decide to actually let 3 matches go on this every week, and will be a second avenue along with ECW to bring up people from FCW. I would much prefer to just put FCW on nationally, I think it would get some decent ratings. For this show I want to see the Brian Kendricks and Shane Helms get more television time. Also, I would have the main event weekly be some sort of mid card title match. Everyone talks about how the IC and US title are now meaningless what better way to change that is to have the champion defend the title against numerous challengers week in and week out.

Sunday Night Heat, Velocity, Superstars.. regardless of what they wanna call it, it's going to flop quicker than the X.F.L.

I honestly wanna hope it's NOT a recap show. I mean, what the shit is Raw A.M. for? So Superstars would be the E.C.W./Smackdown equal? But the preview states it's going to have talent from all three brands. So either that means "from time to time" or it means they're going to be airing "dark matches" from Raw/E.C.W. & Smackdown/E.C.W.

Again, I can't imagine how this will do anything other than help people with basic cable attempt to find another reason to skip WGN.

The main reason this is going to fail though, simply put, is because it's advertising ALL three brands' Superstars.. yet it's only going to be ONE hour. That has "recap show" written all over it.

Hmmmm, why so negative guys??? Don't you remember WWF Superstars that used to be on television in the early 90's and late 80's? I think it's kind of nostalgic and cool. The original WWF Superstars was kind of like what you are all describing too, it was a good show. If I remember correctly it was more about wrestling but there was a re-cap segment with Mean Gene Okerlund. I get WGN and I am looking forward to it, I am kind of excited to see what they do with it. I was actually pretty excited when I heard that they were doing a new version of it, you never know it might be a pretty good show. I can never get enough wrestling so I have no problem with an extra show on the air either.

See, the thing is though.. I'm not trying to be negative about anything regarding remakes. But the fact is, this isn't the 80's, early 90's. And it likely won't be hosted by The Brain & Mean Gene. So it's not going to be the same. It's going to be repackaged from something that may of worked in the past, and rammed down our throats just to fill an hour timeslot.

I think it's kind of nostalgic and cool.

That's the same way a lot of people felt when it was originally announced that E.C.W. was coming back.. look how that's ended.

I honestly don't remember a lot of the older show. I remember the All-American's show, or something to that effect that happened on the USA network.

If this show is going to be another version of W.W.E. "Confidential" then they need to scrap it now. I'm so sick of Wrestling companies trying to give us "behind the scenes/breaking kayfabe" stuff.. when in reality, they're still trying to pathetically make you believe most of it's real, when it's not.

I get WGN and I am looking forward to it, I am kind of excited to see what they do with it. Like you, I'm an overall Wrestling fan and I love the product.. so I will watch when it debuts. I will watch for a while if it's interesting. But if 90% of it is recapping the weekly television shows.. it'll quickly become a thing of the past.

And if it's going to have matches, but with Main Event's like "DJ Gabriel v. local jobber".. or "Mike Knox v. Rey Mysterio", then I'll pass just the same.

I have WGN so I'll check out the first few episodes. It'll only be the first few because that'll be all that it's worth. After those are done, it'll slip into Funaki against Goldust or something like that every week in the "main event", and the rest will be there to do nothing more than keep us "up to date". What would at least help things out would be to air some exclusive content here. When I say exclusive, I mean don't even put it on the website. Put stuff like the Dirt Sheet, Word Up and Santino's Casa here instead of on wwe.com. Have the wrestlers do some short promos from after the matches on the main shows to air here. Something like "after losing his opportunity at the IC title, Punk had this to say". Then air a promo that wasn't on Raw and you can't see anywhere else. Sure it's not much, but it's something different at least. In short, give us a reason to want to watch this show. Something that we can't get by just going to the website.

Am I the only person to realize they're doing this to take ratings from TNA they both air on Thursdays the timeslots will probably intersect and you'll have to decide between TNA or WWE. It's their way of testing the TNA/WWE fans to decide and to see who's loyal to what company. I expect a 9-10 timeslot.
I think I get WGN not sure though if I do I will probably watch it 5 times then watch just TNA. The M.E. will probably start out edge vs. koslov then sink to Paul burchill against mark henry in a squash. I t could be good though to draw attention away from TNA for awhile. It will probably work for 6 months tops then it will crash and burn.

For you guys against it and comlaing about WGN, WGN is on most cable and satelite providers. I was a kid when WWF Superstars and WWF Wrestling Challenge and I enjoyed it. It gives the younger mid card guys a place to showcase their abilities. Most of the young wrestlers now will tell you that they got into the business not because they watched RAW or Nitro but because of wrestling they watched on Saturdays. You saw a promo by a top guy and matches to make the midcard guys look better. Then later in Superstars the matches got better. This will help the IC and US champions and help make those belts stronger becuase those guys would be wrestling. This might even help make the tag division stronger as well. You'll see recaps from all 3 shows and promos. Back that time Superstars and Wrestling Challenge was where to watch promos and interviews. RAW, ECW and Smackdown could then focus on more wrestling. I believe it ios a good idea and don't think it's going to fail. I understand that there's a lot of wrestling on tv now but all the big and important stuff is going to be on RAW and Smackdown. If you love wrestling then you won't care. I have WWE 24/7 and I enjoy watching it. I don't think it's a bad idea and I think it will help not weaken the WWE.
