WWE SummerSlam Kickoff Show - Rob Van Dan VS Cesaro

WWE has finally announced the bout for the SummerSlam kickoff show and it's going to be a singles match between Rob Van Dam and Cesaro.

Ultimately, the outcome of this match isn't at all relevant, but it should still be pretty fun to watch. Given that RVD is rumored to be going on hiatus pretty soon, it's possible that Cesaro finally breaks the losing streak of the past several weeks. Cesaro's someone that shines inside the ring and here's hoping that WWE genuinely does plan to push him before too long.

It could be a fun match. It also shows how much Cesaro has fallen in recent times. From main event of MITB to kickoff at SummerSlam. Nevertheless, I expect an entertaining match, and it should get decent time as well. I just hope Cesaro had more to do at this time.

I have a feeling that Cesaro is going over RVD in convincing fashion. Rob will get his usual offense in, but I think that Cesaro is going to use his strength to beat RVD down in a way we haven't seen from him recently.

I could be completely wrong about that, we'll see.

RVD could get the win but Cesaro beats the crap out of him after the match just to give people something to talk to prior to the start of the main show.

It sucks Cesaro is in the pre show match. I'd love for him to get involved in the main event, helping Lesnar capture the WWE WHC just to get him relevant again

I've no idea why WWE keep bringing RVD back. He doesn't do anything and isn't featured prominently. I mean he's a former TNA World Champion for Christs sake!

Cesaro, I almost forgot he was still on the roster as well. He's been Jack Swagger fodder recently. Nobody would've thought that a few months ago. That battle royal must seem like it was decades ago.

Despite it's insignificance in the scheme of the storyline, this might be an interesting match-up.

Two enhancement talents: Van Dam, who was brought back to build the reps of younger performers.....against Cesaro, who was one of the young bucks before being reduced to his present status as a rep builder for other people.

The story behind the match-up? There really is none; as I can't see a reason for these guys to be fighting each other. Instead, it appears that two performers who had nothing going for a PPV are being given something to do. No problem there, as they might put on a pretty good match....and there's nothing wrong with that.

Who wins? RVD, if they want to give him a win going into his latest hiatus.....or Cesaro, if they want to break the mysterious losing streak they've had him on since his own push apparently fizzled out.

If pressed for a prediction, I guess I'd take Cesaro since he's gonna still be around and could use it more.....especially since I doubt RVD gives a damn one way or the other. He's here strictly to build some retirement income, and he'll get that whether he defeats Cesaro or not.

I'm a big fan of RVD, but it would have made more sense to me to have Sheamus in this match. To not have the United States champion feature at all on the SummerSlam card makes the title look absolutely worthless and lowers Sheamus' reputation for me. Granted, we've already seen Sheamus v Cesaro a number of times but they always put on a great match.

Either way, this is a decent enough match for the pre-show. Then again, it's not exactly going to be difficult to top Naomi v Cameron.

It should be a solid match to start off "The Biggest Party Of The Summer". I'm glad Cesaro & Rob Van Dam will be featured on the card in some capacity, though I would have preferred for both to be featured on the main card instead (it's kind of weird that for the 2nd year in a row RVD is in the Summerslam pre-show match only a couple months after he made his return). Also I'm a little surprised to not see The Usos or Sheamus defending their respective titles at the PPV. Especially since RVD was supposedly hurt, the WWE seems to have cooled off on Cesaro & I can't remember the last time a healthy Sheamus was left off of a PPV card but I'm cool with Cesaro/RVD.

This should be a good way to get the event started. It would have been a good candidate for an opener had it been on the actual card. Even though it won't be the BEST match of the night, both wrestlers are capable of providing a good match that gets the crowd excited for the actual card. The winner has to be Cesaro. RVD has basically nothing to gain from winning this, whereas Cesaro needs to regain some of his lost momentum so to win this match would benefit him a bit. Now if only they would get rid of the annoying sounds in his entrance theme....

DAGGER'S PREDICTION
Cesaro will defeat RVD.
