WWE should really do their research...

Occasional Pre-Show
So I stated this in the Uso thread earlier, but thought I would create this so more of you see it, and recognize exactly where this Haka comes from.

On the past Smackdown! we saw The Uso's debut the Haka in their entrance. Josh stated it is a polynesian war dance used to strike fear into their opponents.

While it is used to strike fear and lay a challenge down to your opponent, I would like to point out that the "Polynesian War Dance" they did on their new entrance is NOT polynesian. It's a Maori Haka from New Zealand. WWE should really have done their research here. Polynesian's do have a haka, but it is in their own language, not in the Maori language. And this specific haka they are doing is the haka of the New Zealand National Rugby team the All Blacks

Here is how its supposed to be done:

And here is another version of a Maori Haka:

Despite this I love the fact WWE are using a Maori Haka on worldwide television!

Are there any other things you have noticed that the WWE has screwed up similar to this?

Yeah I was wondering about this 'Polynesian' thing, a couple of years ago I saw Wales/Samoa in a rugby match and the Samoan team did a similar one then. The match was as you'd expect when you have a group of Mason Ryans and Rob Terrys take on a group of Umagas and Rikishis in a game of rugby, but it was pretty cool to see them do something cultural that we don't often get exposed to.

Same applies to the Usos, I thought it was cool and it makes them stand out a bit more.

What's the connection, if any, between NZ and Samoa?

What's the connection, if any, between NZ and Samoa?

Pretty much the only thing is both are in the Pacific. Samoa is still a very young country and isn't developed like NZ. Alot of Samoan's come over to NZ to start a better life for their family, so we do have alot of Samoans here (which I get why it would be easy for someone to mix up). Sure, to people over in the US and Europe etc (the bigger places), you probably don't care or notice any difference between Maori and Polynesian, but I honestly wouldn't think The USO's could be happy doing a Maori Haka and portraying it as Samoan, when in actual fact Maori & Samoan culture are completely different.

It is definitely a great way to get them noticed and to stand out, I just thought I would point out that WWE are trying to bring the Samoan heritage out in them, but doing it completely wrong lol.
