WWE Sells Out Event in El Paso, TX... Without John Cena

Simply Amazing
I found this on lordsofpain.net
Saturday's Raw live event at the El Paso County Coliseum in El Paso, Texas drew a sellout crowd. Furthermore, John Cena was not advertised for the event.

This is not a Cena hate thread in any way at all but i do find this intriguing because this show selling out without Cena might force Vince to take a look at his product and realize that while Cena does good business for the kids that does not mean he can attract everyone so my questions are:

What message does this send to the WWE brass and creative?

Do you think this could be a step in the direction of creative taking more leaps of faith with the title picture?

You've also got to keep in mind that El Paso is a very Hispanic market with a lot of Lucha Libre fans. So there's a possibility that maybe fans went to see the likes of Sin Cara M, Sin Cara H, Alberto Del Rio, and maybe even Mysterio... though I doubt he was there. It's also Vickie's hometown, and well known for the Guerrero legacy. So yeah them selling out would've happened no matter who was on the card.

And no one is is mentioning that comment that a lot of people left before the main event and were visible upset that Cena wasn't there? It is just as credible as something off a news site. I believe that comment btw. If people have to leave because John Cena lost to Wade Barrett, there's no reason not to believe people didn't want to stick around for a show without him.

Though it is a good sign that WWE managed to sell out the event, it has to be noted that they sold out a house show without Cena. It does not mean that they can sell out PPVs without him.

Also, does anyone know how many people went to that show?

I think the WWE as a brand draws any more than any one superstar, but you can hardly use one event as an example that Punk is a huge draw or anything like that. It's just too small of a sample size to make any legitimate conclusion. I also agree with what SLS said about El Paso being a Hispanic market; Del Rio being there probably contributed to the sellout some. We all know that WWE events can draw without Cena, just maybe not as well on a consistent basis. The sell out is great, but it doesn't mean they should start using their top guy less.

I agree with others here who said WWE is bigger than one guy. El Paso is a huge draw for WWE, so they would sell out regardless of who is or isn't there. I also agree that El Paso is predominantly a hispanic market. And they are some of, if not the most loyal fanbase the WWE has. So, I think it's a coincidence that Cena not being there had anything to do with the sellout. It's not like the fanbase is El Paso wouldn't have sold out the arena with Cena present.

I seen the Eddie tribute video. Punk is over as fuck in El Paso. He's been beside Cena or alone every night as the closer of the show at house shows lately.

I would be more likely to attend a WWE event without Cena because I think he's cringeworthy, boring and unentertaining. But that's just me, I guess the reason this particular event sold out was because it was in El Paso, the home of Eddie Guerrero and because of that there are a lot of wrestling fans. I heard CM PUNK did a tribute to Eddie which was warmly received by the crowd. I hope Vince is testing the waters, but maybe just giving Cena the break which he does need.

I think a break for Cena is a good idea. He's been overexposed and some fans are sick of seeing him. So, doing a vacation of sorts for him makes sense on all fronts. Once his fued with The Rock is over, WWE should let him take some time off. Cena has had several nagging injuries as well, so him recouperating makes sense. I don't want to see any wrestlers wrestling in the shape guys like Kurt Angle and Undertaker have been. They look like pathetic shells of their former selves and almost like walking poster guys of death waiting to happen.

I'm not a hater of Cena as alot here, but he should do what's right for himself and the WWE. Taking an indefinate break will allow him heal up his injuries and ensure he'll be around for years to come. Otherwise, he'll wind up retiring in a few years.

The Raw house show in Albuquerque was empty the night before... Cena wasn't at that show either. So it doesn't really prove that Cena is not a draw.
