WWE opening theme songs

I remember when a theme song to a show or movie was a vital component to the level of enjoyment towards a product. Since wrestling is the topic, the WWF RIW (Raw is War) and Smackdown theme songs are perfect examples of this. IMO everytime, when those blasted through the TV speakers, I would get hyped up and prepared for a great show to come.

My point is, I really am sick and tired of the current MNR/SD theme songs.

I know someone will say, just mute the TV, walk away, or cover your ears. Really? How common is it to do that on a show that you actually are sitting down to enjoy? Is the theme song not an important part of the show. I'm not trying to sound A.E. nostalgic and all, I'm just saying start off with a song that sounds like it would open up a wrestling show, and not a Jonas Bros. concert.

the shows how they were back in the 90s there was no singing just the rock tracks playing through were much better then what they are now.. i will admit the ECW song and the Superstars songs aren't bad.. and the smackdown song wasn't that bad but recently even i just FF through the theme for it and raw..


Its more like comparing apples to oranges tho really Yes the wrestling themes aren't what they used to be.. but neither is wrestling period

I don't understand why a wrestling show would have a theme song that ends with the words "I just wanna be, wanna be loved." It makes absolutely no sense.

I totally agree with you isn't Raw the flagship show? I think it should have the best theme to open the show, the old theme was really pumping me up for a great show. How could a wrestling show have a song i don't wanna be loved like WTF?
I know it's not about the sex the violence no more but cmon something more about rock something that pumps you up

Yeah, the RAW theme sounds like the Jonas Brothers, celebrating their 21st birthdays. I really like the Smackdown! theme but I prefer the Drowning Pool Rise Up one better, It's that little rif at the end that sounds like a whistle, it pumped me. For ECW, the one it has is ok, I prefer Bodies by, coincidentally Drowning Pool but that was for the old ECW, the original. And a for Raw, I don't like Papa Roach, sounds like an 18 year old, I preferred the Anthrax one or the one they had after the brand split, it had a great video to go with it.

I'm with most of you... At the moment I like ECW's theme the most of the three shows, followed by the theme music they were using for SmackDown! (last week's anyway... haven't heard the new theme yet) though I think if they used different vocals, it would've been much better. Raw's theme, probably would be better without vocals, but, it's getting stale.

And please, NO to "Across The Nation" coming back... WWE burned the hell out outta that the song. Not dissing it, but, I've heard it waaaaaay too many times!!

But, sorry guys, the best song to pump anybody up for a show was "Obsession" by Animotion -- the original theme music for Saturday Night's Main Event!

I'm not a big Poppa Roach fan, so I'm not a big fan of the RAW theme. They need something heavy, hard-hitting and edgy for RAW, IMO.

I didn't like the current SD opening song. It's said to be getting a new theme song tonight for the 10th anniversary show. Don't know what it is, so I'm hoping for the best.

I kinda like ECW's theme song. It fits the show and its attitude.

I don't watch Superstars, so I don't know it's song.

I think that the Papa Roach theme fits the RAW product right now, RAW has lost its edge, now its some celebrity/comedy playground gone wrong, which I think is befitting of Papa Roach.
I love the ECW theme, as it fits the theme of the new superstar initiative. Just because they're new doesn't mean that they don't love the business. "Don't question the heart, don't question the fire that burns inside."
The Superstars theme is the greatest wrestling show theme of the past few years.
No one else has mentioned it, but smackdown is debuting a new theme song tonight, which is top 40 caliber rock, not hardcore at all. It's posted at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MAxnlttyikI.
What I think needs to be recycled as an opening theme is All Nightmare Long by Metallica, the theme song for last year's No Mercy.

Well if the reason is because of the lyrics the least they can do is edit them in, the Superstars theme is pretty awesome, and that idea about All Nightmare Long by Metallica would be sweet. I also liked Saturday Nights Main Event theme (Boom-POD).

I have to say I really love the current RAW theme song. I loved the original too. I think they both do a great job of pumping you up. "The Thorn In Your Eye"? I hated it and the video opening that went along with it, it was so lame. Not to mention that annoying siren for that and War Zone......just plain irritating and lame.

As for Smackdown: Their has never been a good Smackdown theme song and the current one is by far the worst. It sounds like a song you'd hear at some old man bar or rodeo.....it doesn't belong. It's like that game which one of these things is not like the other.

3 top reasons I don't take Smackdown as seriously as RAW, the theme song, the colors (they need to change them, it's too bright and cheerful, maybe a dark blue), and of course the taping aspect.

I think that WWE should use "War" by the Sick Puppies for RAWs theme. "War" was the theme for the most current street fighter game and is all about fighting. Another suggestion is "Way of the Fist" by Five Finger Death Punch, but WWE will never use it because fuck is thrown about very freely in this song and they have decided to go to this pg shit.

I guess I sorta see what you're saying; I loved the attitude era Raw and Smackdown themes. In fact, I've liked all the Raw themes except the current one. To Be Loved is OKAY, but I'm kind of tired of it now.

I think the new Smackdown theme is actually really good, but maybe that's because the previous theme was quite possibly the worst theme song to any tv show I've ever heard so the new theme sounds great by comparison. Superstars and ECW have pretty decent themes as well.

So to me, the only theme that needs changing is Raw. Funny, even when comparing theme songs Raw is the worst of the three brands.

I might get beaten for this, but I like the cut of To Be Loved... they use for the RAW theme...The lyrics "I want domination, I want your submission" most certainly make sense to a wrestling show, and "I gotta roll the dice, never look back, never think twice" still applies pretty well to wrestling. Dwelling in the past doesn't work to well unless you're gonna be an emo character that the fans are meant to shit on.

The chorus of the song doesn't work quite so well for a wrestling show, but when you pick a song, you gotta deal with what you've chosen...

Raw.... I personally loved the original Raw is WAR theme, though no one apparently ever knew who it was. The Union Underground one worked well too, and honestly at this point the P.Roach is getting old. It used to be one of the songs on the CD I liked but Raw has killed it for me... personally I'd like "Devour" or "Sound of Madness" from Shinedown as the theme. I can see the intro even already...

ECW.... "Bodies" is the most overused song in WWE. Summerslam 2001, ECW during the invasion and then ECW on SyFy... good song sorta but enough is enough. However I absolutely LOVE "Don't Question My Heart"... Brent of Shinedown with Saliva... plus the song itself works for ECW.

Superstars... WTF man....

Smackdown.... the original sucked. "Beautiful People" was their best... loved them using "Rise Up" too... and if the 10th Anniversary show one really is the new theme I'm going to puke. It's worse than the last one... though I think "Smack Down" by Thousand Foot Krutch from their latest CD would be a perfect fit... and some irony too.

Now... while looking at themes for shows I must also comment on themes by wrestlers that are good or suck...

I see what you're saying. I used to love the old Smackdown and Raw themes, but now they're not as great. However, when Smackdown changed their theme back in 2005 to the first version of Rise up, I loved it, but then they changed it to that gay version, which wanted me to change the channel. Raw's current theme, to be loved, when it first aired was insane, and it's still a good song, but like everyone said it's stale. The orignal Raw themes were better.

The Smackdown theme they used before the newest, let it roll, (which is insane by the way!!) was ******ed. TERRIBLE SONG. And, don't even get me started on ECW.

But, yea the theme songs of the shows always got me going when it came on, got me pumped up for the show, but now it's pretty different.
