WWE New Rehab initiative..

Scott Free

The man of a thousand rest holds.
With the passing of Test, the WWE went public with it's sponsored rehab program, offering it to all former employees. I think this is a commendable move and worthy of praise. Yet, I find it could be made into an even better offer. Recently, the WWE was reported to be looking into producing a reality TV program, they didn't mention any specifics, but what if...
The WWE would produce a Reality TV program on their former Superstars rehab progress ?
I know, I know, it sounds horrible and exploitative, but the truth is, people have no idea on how tough it is to kick a habit, and in exploring the program, it would illustrate how the WWE is committed to help and how their former talent is trying. The talent would have to agree to be on the show of course, and I seriously doubt it would be rated PG. I would like to think having millions of people watching their progress could motivate said talent to try harder.
What do you think ?

I commend WWE's offer to former talents to pay for their rehab. God knows with all the stupid investments many wrestlers have made, this could be a former wrestler's godsend. However, the process to rehab is extremely tough, and the privacy of these individuals should be respected. A reality show may seem like a good idea on the outside, but these individuals are going to need privacy and time to recover from their addictions. Putting them on TV will only add pressure and increase the chance for a relapse...which no one who's fighting to stay sober wants. I applaud any former wrestler or current wrestler that comes forward and admits he needs help, and wish them all the best in succeeding to remain sober and live healthy, and we can help by allowing them to fight in private.

They announced this in 2007 and will continue to announce it forever. It's not new. They are just reminding everyone that it is there.

As to your suggestion, I'd be horrified. If WWE did that, I would truly be horrified.

I commend the WWE for offering rehab, but I also think they should cut off the danger at it's source. Limit the pressure that the company is putting on it's performers. Wrestlers get injured from working such huge schedules, and they hide their injuries to avoid being fired (ahem, TEST!!!!!!). If the WWE just lightened up on their own performers, then they wouldn't need to even have to SUGGEST a WWE sponsored trip to Rehab.
It reminds me of shoving somebody in front of a bus, then pulling them back and saying "There, I saved your life!". The WWE destroys these men, and then kind of attempts to help, after getting fired for recovering from an injury. It's despicable.

Am i the only one who thinks this is a bit of a contradiction.
The WWE will put you through rehab even though you are an "independent contractor".
This is the WWEs way of trying to fix a problem that they were as responsible for as the performers.
And its a way to get good press.

I think its a great idea for former wrestlers to get healthy and i think vince might be trying to get some talent back. saying things in the wwe will change people might go back and re consider wwe.

That's all we need. Another freakin' reality show. There is no way i'd want to see this and any former wrestler that agrees to do it isn't there for the rehab, but, to be noticed and on T.V. again. There will probably be former wrestlers with no addiction problems getting addicted just so they can be on the show. Remember why wrestlers are wrestlers. They need to be the center of attention and entertaining is in their blood. Now, I like the idea of the WWE having a rehab plan if it's all for true, but, do not make a reality show out of it 'cause it would turn it into just a pale mockery of what they want to achieve.

You are right, and then you have to consider the temptation Vince would have to turn it into an angle. In retrospect, while it would illustrate how the WWE is trying to help, it would also open up a can of worms the WWE might not want to get anywhere near of.
