WWE Network Championship

Occasional Pre-Show
I wonder if WWE has considered starting a new championship "WWE Network Championship". It should be defended like the old TV Title in WCW. Once a week have a feature match for the Network Championship. It could be part of a bigger hour long show, or just a one match feature each week. This to me is more interesting than either mid-card title right now and would give a feature spot to a talent in an unconventional way. Plus, it could still be defended on PPV, because all PPVs air on the network. Don't ever let the title be defended on TV and you've got an actual reason to have a mid-card title other than nostalgia.

Well the TV title was essentially created to act as the world championship of TV, so that they didn't have to have world championship title defenses on TV. Didn't take long for that theory to go out the window. If I remember right I believe "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan is still the reigning TV champion. I agree though, create a lower tier title for network only. Could tape the match either before or after RAW goes off the air that way you've got a crowd for it. Be a nice stepping stone for someone who they want to try and get over but isn't ready to be in the U.S. or IC title scene yet. I'd keep it network exclusive though, because I'd you defend it on PPV and the match gets over then WWE is liable to want to have the title defended on live TV. It's a great idea though, gives fans another incitive to sign up for the network.

I'm usually all for having a new Championship Title Belt in the WWE. I don't care if it's the return of a retired Championship, or just to change the design of an active Title, or introduce a brand new Belt. In this case however, I'd rather see the Intercontinental Championship Title Belt become exclusive to Smackdown, and the United States Championshio Title Belt become exclusive to Main Event and SuperStars, therefore making the United States Championship Title Belt exclusive to the WWE Network.

Exactly what I was going to say. Make the IC title the top title on Smackdown, use it to build interesting mid card feuds and storylines. Have maybe title contenders matches on Raw etc to give it some extra exposure. At this point if they are bringing back the cruiser weight championship, I'd replace the US title with that and have the cruiser weight title on main event and superstars as you mentioned but perhaps have it on NXT from time to time as well. Maybe have title defenses on the NXT takeover specials, ppv pre shows and network specials to truly make it a network exclusive but also gives NXT and extra "mid card" title from time to time to add something to the show

I understand where you are coming from but with the fact that all TV shows are shown on the network as well, you basically write off a character from Raw & Smackdown as long as they hold the title, plus whoever they feud with.

And you would need to explain where they are while not on these shows, or explain why they have a belt they never defend on Raw or Smackdown

We have talked about this enough times I reckon. Many experts had given much advice in why there shouldn't be another championship in WWE. The roster itself look thin and feeble, I mean on the experience-wise. Thus it wouldn't be an wise decision to bring a new title just to make it completely orrelavaby

They already have 3 Network-exclusive titles: the NXT, NXT tag and NXT women's titles.

There is NO need for any more main roster titles - they struggle to build compelling stories for the FIVE they already have, yet people want more? Not everyone needs or is deserving of a title run every five minutes

A championship that would be a perfect fit for the WWE Network would be (as another poster said in here) the return of the Hardcore Championship and the 24/7 rule. Sure you can call that a "WWE Network Championship", WWE is avoiding the term hardcore.

Think about it. With all the social media WWE is focusing around, the 24/7 rule for that title would be absolute gold. The WWE can even install a special channel on the WWE Network and call it the "24/7 Mayhem". In that channel, there will be a camera installed at the Network Championship, broadcasting 24/7. Everytime an attack is taking place, a special note would air on Twitter, FB, WWE.com that would make viewers turn in on the Network to see the "match", which can take place anyplace, anytime.

But Zack Ryder is the Internet Champion.
latest

Ohhh how I miss the days when Zack Ryder was relevant.

I don't see the point in a Network Championship.
Titles don't draw shit anymore and all it would be is just another prop I dought this would garner interest in gaining subscribers for the Network unless it was like a Legends Championship and you have guys like Steve Austin and Undertaker compete for it that would be awesome and would draw huge numbers but it will never happen.

It's the guys that make the belt the belt doesn't make the guys and nobody is going to get over enough to make the championship draw in this current WWE environment of 50/50 win loss records.

I see what you're going for but thats going to cost a lot of cash and be rather invasive. A weekly (maybe daily) half hour to an hour recap of the champion's day would be a bit more realistic

Who would they give this new title to? Anyone whose name isn't John Cena, HHH or Roman Reigns ideally.

I'd love to see a return of the Hardcore title, but Hardcore matches in the PG era? Won't happen.

Bring back the Cruiser Weight belt, there's enough smaller guys under 230 lbs on the main roster to utilize it IMO.

Why would you want to be the network champion when the WWE excluded the talent from making money from it? Do you only defend the title on the network, so even less people see you?

That would be great. I can't remember the last time they had a number one contender's match for the IC title.

WRONG!!!!!!! Any wrestler(s) that wrestles on Main Event and/ or Superstars, this would be a great tool for them (i.e. Fandango)

I have no problem with the WWE creating more titles, the only problem I have right now is that they can't properly book the ones they have, so why make more.

The only title this past year that made any sense was the US Title. John Cena's open challenge on RAW each week was the highlight of the show most times. And we got some great matches out of it. Too bad he had to leave to film that other show and the title went into the toilet.

Book the other titles properly, give them some substance and then we'll talk about another title. As it is right now, it will just be another title going to waste and another thing for us to all bitch about.
