WWE Confidential

Big Sexy

Deadly Rap Cannibal
This was a one hour show that started in 2002 and lasted a couple years. The first year or so of the show was tremendous and it became one of my favorites. Towards the end it started to go away from what made it so great and was ultimately cancelled but its original run was tremendous. I own the Best of Confidential DVD and watched it recently so that is why I decided to make the thread.

For those who never saw the show, it was hosted by Gene Okerlund and basically took an inside look at the WWE. There was no kayfabe involved which made it that much better. There were some major stories on the show especially early on. One of the first big things they did was an interview with Shawn Michaels about his career. It was in this interview that HBK first admitted publicly he knew about the Montreal Screw Job before it happened.

Another big story was about the Monday Night Wars which was a precursor for the Monday Night Wars DVD that was made. They also did a big story about the events surrounding Stone Cold's WWE departure back in 2002 when he "took his ball and went home."

Even some of the smaller stories like when they discussed the Samoan family tree in wrestling and when they did a tour of Trish Stratus's house were entertaining.

So, what were your thoughts on the show? What were some of your favorite stories? Why do you think they started to water it down towards the end?

It was a great program but the problem was that it was a wwe themed shoot style show... They only talked about things that was OK to the product.
How of those shows buried wwe or for that matter shed the company in a negative light?
I prefer LOW better on classics on demand I feel like thats more real cause you have backstage n the wrestlers all talking together holding nothing back

I'm also a fan of the LOW's but those aren't on cable TV like Confidential was. Obviously the WWE wasn't going to bury themselves on Confidential but that isn't going to happen on any type of WWE programming including LOW.

Things like the HBK interview and the stuff surrounding the Austin departure were a big deal. Those stories and the in depth look at everything surrounding them being shown on cable TV was unheard of at the time. It was definitely a ground breaking show until they started to water it down.

Sounds more like it should be a quarterly type show to me... unless people are going to tune to see an interview with Brian Nobbs about his run as tag team champion with the Nasty Boys... sooner or later it just seems like it'd run out of steam, yet the content they have to talk about would be amazing while it lasted.

But then, I never saw it.

not bury per se but LOW talks about the backstage occurrences a lot more than confidential ever did especially in the LOW episodes of heatseekers n the 15th anniversary of NWO

The only reason they did the michaels & austin stories cause both those guys were doing comebacks at the time and they wanted to explain in detail what happened while away.
Nash actually did something similar with wcw in 2000 on one of there programs.

Confidential and LOW while similar in some ways were completely different shows. LOW is not an every week show and they stick to one specific topic throughout the entirety of the show. They also have a wider range of material while Confidential stuck to mainly WWE topics because it was a cable show which aired right after Velocity. Obviously the HBK and Austin stories were done to promote their comebacks but that didn't make them any less insightful or interesting.

In that lies Your answer after velocity a show that great after velocity who use to main event that show bull Buchanan!!!!!!

Wwe took all the programing off tv except the main shows..... so maybe when they start the network they can bring the show back.

I think you touched on a good point...
a show like confidential would eventually be watered down because you will run out of quality material

I loved watching it with my cousin over at my grandparents house after Velocity

It seemed very laid back and candid, almost like a Behind The Music or True Hollywood Story, but for Wrestlers and those that loved them

I honestly think that the WWE could benefit from allowing this to return, it could certainly spotlight a lot of the wrestlers that don't get that much of attention (which is unforunately the majority of the WWE's current Raw and Smackdown roster)
