WWE Clash Of Champions - Sami Zayn VS Chris Jericho

Jack-Hammer

YOU WILL RESPECT MY AUTHORITAH!!!!
The first non title bout for COC was announced on Raw tonight and it'll see Sami Zayn take on Y2J.

This should be an entertaining match and I ultimately see Jericho putting Zayn over here. Jericho has been more competitive this year than he has in a while, though this is the first time he's wrestled a full year for the company in quite a while instead of usually just wrestling for a handful of months. Still, Zayn needs the win here and I think he'll pick it up.

They like to occasionally give Jericho a win when they shouldn't (Styles anyone?), but it's a pretty safe bet going against him in general.

Zayn should obviously win this match and I am sure that Jericho would have no problem putting him over.

I am still to be impressed by Zayn on main roster. He has had good matches but I can't get what his gimmick is? An underdog? We already have Balor, Rollins etc in the same role. Plus I don't get his almost stale entrance. I surely admire his in-ring work though.

His booking worsens his case even more. He has been lurking around since he defeated Owens at Battleground. He need to be far away from Owens until atleast Royal Rumble.

They can further expand this feud; aka let Jericho win via cheating and then have Zayn win at Survivor Series. This way, he could have a feud with someone atleast not known as Owens.

I think this whole feud with Jericho is connected to Kevin Owens. Therefore I actually think that the best thing for Zayn is to get that over with as fast as possible, or else he's going to become even more stale than he already is. He doesn't need to beat Kevin Owens for the title, he can lose and go back to the end of the line and feud with other guys that can have great matches and help him get fresh again.

From the top of my head, I would actually like to see him go up against Rusev for the US Championship (if Reigns doesn't win it first). Maybe he and Neville can form a good enough tag team to challenge The Club and end up in a feud between the two highflyers.

He can and will get over. It's just a matter of time and consistent booking. He doesn't need to win. He just needs to be exposed in different lights and be able to tell who Sami Zayn is.

I hope he gets the win here and is able to challenge Kevin Owens at Survivor Series for the Universal Title. He doesn't need to win it, but he sure as hell need to challenge for it while he still can.

I would prefer him against Rusev instead of facing Owens again. Neville-Zayn could be a nice tag team and add some more depth to Raw's tag division. He needs to be far away from Owens as they have faced each other a lot of times in this year.

He needs to showcase that he isn't only a rival of Owens of all people. I think that Jericho is the right choice to bring the best of him until now. He needs to show some personality out there in a personal feud with anyone not named Owens.

He could be a good opponent for Rusev if he retains. Or if Reigns wins, we could get Reigns Vs Zayn for the title where Reigns screws him via a heel turn which is overdue now.

I have no desire to watch Jericho anymore buthe, hey, I'm down for this. Hopefully Jericho doesn't needlessly claim a victory like he did against Neville last year.

This has the potential to be MotN and the one I'm most looking forward to at the moment

On one side you have Zayn who is one of the most over stars in the WWE today and has shown he can work an amazing match. On the other side you have Jericho who can work with anyone and make anyone look like a million bucks.

Jericho has no problem putting people over which I fully expect to happen here. This could be the win Sami needs to get him out of this fucked up limbo he's been stuck in since Battleground.

I say Jericho wins it and the reason why? Because if you want to build Jericho back up again to a credible threat to the WWE Universal Championship and given that his supposed best friend Kevin Owens is the WWE Universal Champion people have essentially treated Jericho like an afterthought hell Owens has pretty much treated him as such ever since becoming champion so if you want to build up towards an Owens/Jericho program for the title it makes so much sense so which is why I see Jericho beating Zayn

I want this to be a long feud, with great matches between the two. If Jericho gets personal, this has the potential to become a great feud, also by the fact that Sami Zayn is a very sympathetic babyface.

I'd expect Zayn to go over here in some way like a roll-up, just to keep Jericho mad and keep the feud going.

I could see that happening. Gives Zayn something to do. I guess long term this could lead to a title shot against KO.

I hope not really. WWE has already overexposed the Zayn-Owens feud.

Plus I think that a Jericho vs Owens feud is in the works. After Owens is done with Rollins and Jericho is done with Zayn, I see Owens vs Jericho happening, with one man turning on the other (Owens to Jericho hopefully). Rollins can get a feud with Roman, which will be Rollins' face turn closure and Reigns' heel turn beginning.

Zayn can feud with Rusev and Cesaro for the US Championship title.

Since this might be the case, then who wins Jericho vs Zayn? I think the two of them will stay tied, only for Jericho to become the #1 contender later, like AJ Styles did after Wrestlemania. It keeps both men strong and plus Zayn gets to have his big wins over Y2J.

True. I just wonder what else they can do with Zayn because he's a main event caliber wrestler. I wish he was on SDL. Zayn vs. Miz, Zayn vs. AJ would be perfect, especially with the IC title picture weak and lack of main event faces on SDL.

I guess Jericho could put Owens over even more as a main event heel. Rollins vs. Reigns have been overexposed. Practically seen that feud over a 2 year period of time. Maybe they could become allies again.

I can't see Reigns turning heel. I think he may win the US title. I can't see what else Rusev could do with the US title.

I get why people want this wrapped up quick but I wouldn't mind seeing it drug out for a bit. While the feud is undoubtedly connected to Owens, Zayn added an extra layer by calling out Jericho for basically tarnishing his own legacy. So I'll agree with an above poster that Jericho wins (in heel-ish fashion ofc) and makes Sami sweat for a rematch that he should ultimately win.

I'm not too crazy about trilogy matches but that's also option considering how this goes, they really don't have much else to do atm.

Strange that they booked a match prior to a feud even taking place? Feels like they've just put the two guys together that have nothing going on at the moment. It obviously has the potential to be a really entertaining match, but I'm not invested in anything that has no build, especially a PPV offering. They could have started something the week before and at least had a reason for booking the match, but hey, maybe I'm just being picky.

I'm sure it will be a great match. I see Zayn going over here, but you never know, if the feud is gonna continue they might have Jericho win instead. Tough to call, and I guess that's always good.

I wouldn't say he's stale. I'd say he has no direction. I can't see him beating KO for the title and I'm sure whoever wins between Reigns and Rusev will be champ until WrestleMania or longer.

Tag division is his best bet on RAW. Meanwhile on SDL, his ceiling is endless.

I think Zayn gets the win here. I think they'll face off again at HIAC, Jericho loses again. KO turns on Jericho, leading to a match at TLC, Jericho (a filler opponent) until WrestleMania season starts.

Prediction: Sami Zayn wins here.

There's absolutely no backstory here of note. This is and should be connected to the never ending Zayn vs. Owens saga and it just feels like a natural step to get Zayn ready for the championship match. Raw needs this match to happen because they have unfinished business and in that way, both of them get free of the story and maybe can both feel fresh with new opponents.

Chris Jericho will probably be a contender in the near future as well, but he's an established wrestler who can jump to the main event when needed. Zayn needs the win here and he needs to capitalize on that a lot more than just being the guy who has a lot of energy and a fist in the air. I hope they sell this match as a big deal for Zayn's career instead of the filler it actually is.

This is probably going to be one the most fun I'll have on the show, mainly because Jericho has been great with his whole shtick. I want the list as a foreign object in this match!

I don't know what to make of this match to be honest. The build to the match has been fine and I suppose that it makes some measure of sense. My only reservation is that there isn't really a true winner of this match. Personally, I think Jericho has been brilliant as of late. His promos have been sterling and he has still been delivering inside the ring. His relationship with Kevin Owens likely won't pay off in a match but that's really how it should be. Jericho and Owens would have a good match but no one, including me, wants to see that come to fruition. Jericho is close to passed it and I think the WWE have other fish to dry before they put Jericho back into the title picture.

That said, Jericho is a lot more active and a lot more relevant than Sami Zayn at this point. I am a huge fan of Zayn and I think that he will eventually find his feet on Raw. I reckon he's been handled like Daniel Bryan was when he started and that his momentum will start to pick up before too long. But he hasn't done anything noteworthy as of late. He should win this match and use it to springboard towards something relevant. But the more I think about it, the more I'm positive that Jericho will be the one getting the win here. Jericho has been far more entertaining in recent weeks and I think the WWE have a lot of time for him.
