WWE Clash Of Champions General Discussion & Reviews

Keep it all here.

As of right now, the main event of Styles vs. Mahal is the only official bout. One match that'll probably go down is the Usos taking on Chad Gable & Shelton Benjamin, maybe some sort of six women tag match with some of the women attacked tonight taking on Ruby Riot, Sarah Logan & Liv Morgan.

I go with a long shot here, as I believe WWE will have the War Games gimmick debut on the main roster really soon, which leads me to..

War Games Match
Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn and Rusev vs Shane McMahon, Randy Orton and Shinsuke Nakamura vs The New Day

WWE Championship Match
AJ Styles (C) vs Jinder Mahal

WWE United States Championship Match
Baron Corbin (C) vs Bobby Roode

Submission Match for the WWE SmackDown Women's Championship
Charlotte Flair (C) vs Natalya

Six Women Tag Team Match
Ruby Riot, Liv Morgan and Sarah Logan vs Becky Lynch, Naomi and Tamina Snuka

SmackDown Tag Team Championship Match
The Usos (C) vs Shelton Benjamin and Chad Gable

Kickoff Match:Fatal Four Way Tag Team Match to determinate the No.1 Contenders for the WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championships
The Bludgeon Brothers vs Breezango vs The Ascension vs The Hype Bros

Well Becky is out as she is off for the movie not sure if Carmella will fill in or what
I like your idea but I dont see War games so quick...More likley Aiden and Rusev vs New Day and a regular tag with Shane and Bryan as refs

What I would do....

1) Styles (C) vs. Mahal
* Styles retains
2) Corbin (C) vs. Nakamura
* Nakamura wins Gold
2) Charlotte (C) vs. Tamina (need a fresh match here)
* Charlotte retains
3) Uso's (C) vs. Gable/Benjamin
* Uso's retain
4) Team Shane (The New Day) vs. Team Owens (Owens, Zayn, & Rusev)
* Team Owens wins
5) Randy Orton vs. Bobby Roode (#1 contender to WWE Title)
* Roode pulls off the upset
6) Riot, Morgan, & Logan vs. Lynch, Naomi, & Natalyia
* New Girls win when Natalyia turns on her teammates and joins the new girls
7) Bludgeon Brothers vs. Breezango
* Bludgeon Brothers win

But if you were going to do a War Games match what about this....

Shane, Orton, & The New Day vs. Owens, Zayn, Rusev, & The Bludgeon Brothers
* imagine the spots you could have in this one.

Then maybe make US Title match a Fatal 4 way
(Corbin vs. Roode vs. Nakamura vs. Dillinger)

So they didn't announce anything outside the main event as of now for the show but with what i've seen on tv as of now, i got a pretty good idea where they are going for the rest of the card so i'm going to predict the rest of the card

WWE U.S title match
Bobby Roode vs Baron Corbin

WWE tag team title match
The usos vs The New Day Vs Shelton and Gable

WWE smackdown women's title match
Natalya vs Charlotte vs Ruby Riott

Randy Orton and shinsuke nakamura vs Kevin Owens and Sami zayn

Zack Ryder vs Mojo Riley

Sarah Logan and liv morgan vs tamina and Lana

Pre show

The bludgeon brothers vs Breezengo

This card looks pretty dreadful, and I actually thought the show was yesterday and was wondering why KB didn't do a preview and there was no LD, leading me to believe no one cared about it. There's nothing really to this show other than breathing a big sigh of relief that Jinder (hopefully) is done with the title picture after it's all over.

I think the tag title match will rock, albeit rather repetitive considering we've had roughly a hundred Uso and New Day matches this year. Not like there was much to choose from within the blue tag division though. Didn't we just see Orton/Nakamura vs Owens/Zayn a few weeks ago? Orton also beat both of them on his own. Hard to get invested in that.

Well tonight we had the final major WWE event of the year. The Smackdown brand had its Clash Of Champions show. I could get into how the "every title is on the line" gimmick needs to be turned into the 6th dual-branded show, although that is a topic for another discussion. The show looked mostly fine on paper. Let's take a look at the matches that were on this show.

Pre-Show: Mojo Rawley VS Zack Ryder
A perfect example of what belongs on the pre-show. Two guys I don't care about and a match that is of little interest. It should come as no surprise to anyone who has read my reviews before that I spent this match ordering pizza.

Baron Corbin VS Bobby Roode VS Dolph Ziggler [United States Championship]
Part of me was concerned that they might have the World Championship open so I am glad this did instead. The match was fine and was even exceeding expectations until the ending. Dolph Ziggler. Really? Seriously? Why couldn't Roode have won if the title HAD to go to a new champion? Corbin needed the win here more than either of the other two. Ziggler's boring and this was a mistake on WWE's part. I'm disappointed by it. Luckily that would go on to be the only stupid result on the show.

The New Day VS Benjamin & Gable VS Rusev Day VS The Usos [Smackdown Tag Team Championship Fatal Fourway match]
This thing was a cluster mess. I had difficulty knowing who was legally in the match for most of it. It was fun chaos, just tough to keep up with. Genuinely thought Rusev Day had the match won a few times there. Not all too thrilled about The Usos retaining. It makes sense if they are going to re-do the Usos VS Wyatts feud now that both teams have new gimmicks. Thank goodness they changed the rules. I detest the "tagging in other teams" nonsense. Triple threat and fatal fourway tag team matches used to be my least favorite matches due to that idiocy and this change helped a lot.

Charlotte VS Natalya [Smackdown Women's Championship]
Solid match. The lumberjacks' involvement was well done and Carmella almost cashing in was as well. I'm quite surprised they did not go with a cash-in after the match. Not sure where Natalya goes from here, I thought she was going to quit in that promo after the match. Charlotte will probably move on to feud with Ruby and The Riott Squad next.

Breezango VS Bludgeon Brothers
This was exactly what it needed to be. A fun match in between the bigger matches. It was a little short for my taste and that is really the only issue I had with it. I bet the Bludgeon Brothers go on to challenge for the Tag Team Championships after this.

Sami Zayn & Kevin Owens VS Randy Orton & Shinsuke Nakamura [Tag team match with Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan as the special guest refs]
The match of the night for me. All six did a good job. I was wondering how they were going to do a match with two refs and it kept me interested the entire time. Definitely looking forward to see how the tension between Bryan and Shane will continue to escalate on tuesday. I'm also shocked that this did not main event with how this storyline had received more attention than the rest of the matches on this show combined.

AJ Styles VS Jinder Mahal [World Heavyweight Championship]
It dragged on a bit at first and was boring for a while. What can you expect out of a Jinder Mahal match though? It was MUCH better than the matches that either Randy Orton or Shinsuke Nakamura had with Jinder. Styles has proven he can get a decent match out of just about anybody. THANK GOODNESS Styles retained. Jinder should never be allowed near a World Championship ever again.

Overall Thoughts
It was an ok show. Nothing truly groundbreaking happened. When ranking the shows for the year, this one fell in the middle. A step up from Survivor Series and fell just short of being better than Hell In A Cell. The only match you REALLY need to see if you missed it was the Sami & Owens VS Randy & Nakamura match. Go ahead and watch the rest if you have time to spare and want to, but skip the opener.

Typical Smackdown PPV here. Looks pretty underwhelming from the outside but all the matches delivered in a way. I didn’t think the US title would start but it was a good match and a lot better than I think anyone thought it would be. Ziggler winning, what?! I found myself bringing out my inner 8 year old self and rooting for Ziggler in this match based on I just like him the most out of the guys. It was a great surprise but I’m not sure where they go from here. I just can’t help but think Shelton Benjamin but again, how do they get there.

The tag team match was cool. I was watching on a half hour delay and it somehow skipped to Rusev having the Accolade on, I was hoping that wasn’t the finish because I was really looking forward to the match, thank goodness it wasn’t. I can’t believe how over Rusev and English are. New Days reaction was weak compared to theirs. Good match I I stand by saying I much rather 4 men in the ring at once than only 2.

The divas match was pretty average considering who was in the ring for me. Sure that is a lumberjack match in a nutshell but I wasn’t really feeling this. The potential of Riott Squad doing something or a cash in not happening I think hurt the match. When all the women were fighting near the announcers, Lana just looked like a lost little soul. Quite funny.

Fashion Police vs Bludgeon Brothers was exactly what it had to be, unfortunately for the fashion police.

I enjoyed the tag team match between Owens/Xayn and Orton/Nakamura. One thing that annoyed me was Nakamuras hot tag and then next 5 minutes on in ring work consisted of all his signature moves and it just made me realize how Nakamura probably has the least versatile move set in the business. I rarely see him trying somethin new. Fair enough his strong style gimmick kinda limits his move set but how about just throwing a different move in there every now and then. I loved the fast count finish.

A.J. styles vs Mahal is currently on in the background as I write this. I’m probably not going to finish it as I don’t care for this match and I know who wins. I’m happy to see this was on last for a kayfabe point, but with it being on last just gives me a reason to not watch it.

Good Old Smackdown PPV. Is Owens possibly a favorite for the Rumble? I think Roode vs Styles for the title at the Rumble makes a lot of sense. I was thinking if Owens and Dayn got fired they could be surprise entrants for the Rumble. That would’ve been cool but I like how it went down.

Nothing to truly review here, it was a typical wwe ppv with some match being good even if they truly didn't have any story going into them. It was a very old school style of booking which won't please everybody but I did like it because it was left simple and keep the focus on the 2 main events.

So like always, I'm only going to give what I liked from each match and tried to not be negative about it.

rawley vs ryder: for me, the best part of this match was the video package they did to explain why the break up was happening because for a feud between the former partner, their we're really no explanation as to why this was happening in the first place. In the end, I really like mojo as a heel Zack made him look like a million bucks now they just need to focus a little bit on mojo and give him something for once.

Ziggler vs Corbin vs roode: nice simple story of 2 guys trying to win a championship and it made the u.s title feel important. The ending was surprising since pretty much everybody though ziggler got inserted in the match to take the pin but I guess he won the belt so that he can elevate roode when they start feuding over the belt.

Fatal four way tag title match: again loved the simple story of 3 team trying to win the championship and the uso's trying to keep them. This was also a test to see who was over with the crowd and who wasn't. It feel like rusev and English we're super over and that gable and Benjamin while the better team are pretty going to get lost in the shuffle since they aren't over at all. In the end the right team won and I'm guessing the uso's keep the tag title until they decided to put them against the bludgeon bros.

Charlotte vs natalya: pretty much the same type of match they always have which isn't a knock on them but the bigger story is all the story that we're build with the lumberjill and it will keep the division intriguing for a while. My only think that got me confuse with this match was the Natalya promo after the match. I don't know what was the point of the promo. I feel like see was suppose to be her way of saying that she was retiring but it wasn't made clear.

Bludgeon bros. Vs breezango: this was my third favorite match of the night. It did what it wax suppose to do, it was short and devastating and made the bludgeon bros. Look like unstoppable monsters.

Owens and Zayn vs Orton and nakamura. Again great story told in this match, sure the focus was more on Bryan and Shane but in the end, it made me want to watch smackdown to see the fall out of this match, what will happens between Shane and Bryan, between Shane, Owens and Zayn and between Bryan, Orton and nakamura. They have so many story they can tell after this match so this was my match of the night.

JInder vs aj styles. Surprisingly, this was my second favorite match, they needed JInder to have a strong showing and prove he could hang in the main event level and he showed that he can. The story was simple but greatly executed by both guys and it truly feel by the reaction he was getting, like JInder just became a main event heel. In the end this was made as a proving ground for JInder and he pass with flying colors.
Now I want to see where he's going to go next.

In the end, if you like storytelling in your wrestling this was a pretty solid show if your more into in ring, then it was a sub par show. Me I actually did like the show because it felt like something I would have watch when I was a kid in the late 80's.
