The inventor of the DDT, In the 1980s, Roberts had his opponent, The Grappler, in a front facelock, but tripped. Roberts' opponent fell on his head. From that match, Roberts incorporated the move as his finisher, naming it the DDT. During his 2nd WWE run Roberts can be credited as being one of the ones to help start the "Attitude Era" in the WWF as he was the one that Steve Austin's initial Austin 3:16 speech was directed at. He was voted PWI's Most Inspirational Wrestler of the Year in 1996.

Winner of over 20 titles in his career, he has had feuds with the likes of Tito Santana, Ric Flair and Don Muraco. He was voted PWI's Most Hated Wrestler of the Year in 1975, 1979 and 1983. He is also in the WWE HoF.

I'll take Valentine but not by much. Valentine was just a great 80s heel. He had the skill and he had the look. The name wsa almost corny but fit great. He kind of won the world title in the early 80s but it was a planned finish where he was accidently awarded the title. However, he never really made the big jump, which is likely due to Hogan changing wrestling entirely.

Roberts on the other hand has lost this race recently. This is about legends. Roberts has gone from a legend to a very sad case indeed. He just wasted such a great legacy. His DDT was so revolutionary at the time in that no one had such a fast finisher. The man just fell so far so fast and all because of alcohol and drugs. Valentine may be permantly stuck in the 80s, but that's better than being stuck in rehab.

Both of these wrestlers have fallen from grace. Jake Roberts is now infamous for his drug induced spree's of ignorace. He used to be one of the best wrestlers in the world but noe he's nothing but a laughing stock for pro wrestling fans. It's a real shame that his life has went this way when he could have been remembered as a all time great. The last time i seen Greg Valentine he looked like he was over 400 pounds. He was working a local federations tv taping and had a match against the champion. The match was slow and Valentine looked old and out of shape. I realy felt sorry for the man. Taking all of that into account i'm giving Jake "The Snake" Roberts my vote. Not because what he is now. But because of what he used to be.

I voted for Jake Roberts. Ignoring the ******ed stuff he's done recently, he's credited with inventing the DDT, a move everyone in the wrestling business uses on a daily basis. Not only that if he wasn't facing Austin in the KOTR, He wouldn't have been able to give his famous Austin 3:16 speech. So without Jake Roberts we wouldn't have one of the most common moves in Wrestling today. and the Attitude Era might not have happened as soon or at all which would have been a complete disaster for the WWE.

Come on... Jake Roberts is quite easily one of the most evil heels ever to grace a wrestling ring with his presence. The man innovated one of what has become the most commonly used moves and he made it look vicious and clinical, in what was an accidental slip. The man, despite his demons, was one of the most respected and feared opponents and put over a lot of big big names.

Greg Valentine... what has ever done that is truely memorable. Absolutely nothing. He was bland and slow, and nothing special. This is a legends tournament and to be a legend you must be memorable.

Jake has his snakes and his squashed snake incident, his DDT, Austin 3:16. Ok, he's lost his way as of late with alcohol and drugs, but this is not a tournament based on his personal life. It's on his impact in the ring and Jake did a lot more than Valentine

Idk about that. The thing is Jake never had anything tangible that he accomplished in the ring. Yes everything that you say he did is absolutely true, but at the end of the day, Valentine won far more titles and championships than Roberts did. When you say that it's about what he did in the rign, what about what Jake did a few months ago in the ring? That was an absolute disgrace to both himself and wrestling as a whole, allowing a man in that condition in the ring. I agree that Roberts is the bigger name and the bigger star, but his legendary status is too damaged for me to give him this.

Results: 10-5 for Jake he goes on to face either Blassie or Bundy in round 2.

My thoughts: This could have gone either way but I'm happy that Roberts won this. While he may not have won as many titles a Valentine but he accomplished so much more. Inventing the DDT by accident, helping bring in the attitude era, both of those are huge in wrestling and it would be completly different without Roberts. Yeah he may not be doing to good recently but all the good he has done out ways the bad in my opinion.
