WWE Announcing A "New Era" Is In?

– Following CM Punk’s victory last night over Alberto Del Rio at Survivor Series for the WWE championship, WWE.com declared that “the entertainment era begins now.” Last night marked the beginning of CM Punk’s second official reign as WWE champion.

I alway's thought wrestling as a whole was entertaining. So I'm not really sure of what the whole "ENTERTAINMENT ERA" IS ALL ABOUT.

Any thoughts on this turn of event's?

Ern... this is not unlike the "Era of Awesome" from when The Miz won his WWE Championship.

It's just a little nickname for the title reign. Might, at most, indicate that Punk will carry that belt for a considerable while.

It's another lame buzz word. It's still the same era until something dramatically changes to shift the landscape of the company. A new champion does not qualify as a new era.

i agree i said, my one of a kind self. I also agree that punk is very interesting and entertaining. I think that something drastic does need to happen though. This pg era is almost dragging the bones out of the skin of wrestling. Give me a break with the censoring. I understand that there are a lot of children that watch wrestling these days but is it the companies responsibility to censor. its kinda like music, slap a parental discretion label on the intro and let these guys entertain the long time fans. sure u dont want to block new fans from watching but wrestling is something passed down through generations of fans. Basically the parents can determine when it is and isnt suitable for their kids. Anyway a bunch of guys beating each other up isnt all that great for kids to watch regardless who is with them to filter what they see and dont see.

In fact lets be honest, they may be able to block the accidental blood shots from television but for the 9 year olds sitting in the front row of a live event? does wwe for instance have a guy that runs around covering childrens eyes in these unpredictable moments? i.e. the orton/rhodes ring bell incident?

you cant always block the youth from seeing violence. so lets just bring the fn attitude era back. isnt that when we all loved wrestling anyway???

I could be wrong, but I can't help thinking it was connected to Rock proclaiming himself the most electrifying man in entertainment......leaving out the word "sports" before entertainment.

Hard to believe it's just Punk's title reign alone that changes the whole era.

It is a new era! None of the old new or young fans remember ziggler from spirit squad. Or the rhodes on tv is not gold dust! Everyone taking up mic time is new in the last 5 to 7 yrs besides cena orton and the hall of famers. The last coming of the greats kane undertaker show henry and the rock! Hopefully chris too :) & jeez look at the storylines they are FOR us!! Its AWESOME!! &entertaining im down. Not saying I agree with all the decisions like not holding punks come bk till later. But I like miz flipping the w to an m again and soon I guess they might. Im down. Cant wait to see alberto punk miz truth zig sheamus bryan barret cody swag kofi cara zach & all are within five to seven years with wwf new era!

"entertainment era"? Huh? I thought the era was "realism" because thats what Punk stated, "This is the realism era". And think its true and it is because Faces are getting booed and Heels are getting cheered. Most people know that the reason why Heels are heels are because they are good at making people hate them. They can easily turn into a face and still have people love them. Mean while the face, can only play one character and most of the time, they CAN'T WRESTLE, so thats why they have to play a 1 dimensional character. What I'm trying to say is that Heels are talented while faces aren't and the audiences are starting to see that now, they're not cheering for good guys now just because they're good guys like back in the classic era. Unlike the attitude era, people now don't like you if you're not good at wrestling, for attitude era as long as you're a bad ass and hit people with chairs and break tables, you're good. Now you have to be skilled in the ring and perform each and every night without botching. For example, Cody Rhodes, Ziggler, Punk *when he was a heel*, and orton*when he was a heel*, although they may not be that great of shape and that great on the mic *besides punk*, they still have the ring ability and people love that. WWE now also doesn't hide any behind the scene storylines anymore, they let us know that Sin Cara was suspended, Evan and truth are suspended due to violation of wellness , WWE stars are released, Kharma's pregnancy, and twitter. They even have a news column for wwe now updating the universe about outside the ropes. So this has to be the era of "REALISM" where entertainment is entertainment but nothing can be hidden from the media.

No you can't..because its been a day, but I highly doubt it will be.

I'm not saying his reign will have the impact Austin's did - I'm only saying his reign played a role to the beginning of the Attitude Era. Much like Punk's could potentially be the upstart of a new era.

that's just stupid. Punk vs Ziggler had more WRESTLING than about a month's worth of attitude era shows combined.

Not only that, but this is the WWE. Everyone on the roster knows how to wrestle (except maybe Mason Ryan). You don't know how to do any of the moves so you can't judge. Doing a lot of moves doesn't make you better. "To an extent, we can all do all the moves, it's the other stuff that makes you a star" -Raven, knows more about wrestling than you.

"perform without botching" that doesn't make you a good wrestler, well it does, not fucking up, however, Punk vs Ziggler had several miscues but it was still an awesome match, they had the crowd going. You don't get it. It's not "so and so does a lot of moves and never messes up, he's good" it's "so and so makes the crowd BELIEVE in them".

Anyways, this whole "new era" stuff. Maybe, maybe we're in the era where Cena isn't the only big draw. Punk and Ryder are both extremely over and you have Rhodes and Ziggler stealing the show from the midcard. Pretty exciting time to be a fan.

I find it hard to believe that Punk's title win was all that caused a new era to begin so suddenly. I'd think that when he began his promos this summer was the true beginning of it. WWE were pushing Punk and Ziggler as the new faces of the federation all through their match last night as well. I don't quite see it yet but in time they probably could become the new faces. Rather them than The Miz that's for sure. With their networking coming soon it would make sense for a new era to begin, I suppose. I'm sure people will begin speculating that a new logo, a new WWE Championship design, and a Cena heel turn will all be coming soon due to this so called new era having begun. It's up to WWE to push Punk to the very top if he truly is going to be the face of a new era. I'll give it a chance. Worse things have happened before, after all.

LMAO, so what is WWE saying, that the era before this was NOT entertaining and just garbage kid's television? Seriously, WWE has to have some pretty dumbass people in charge of media promotion. It should be called the "Reality Era", and it should've begun at Summerslam.

There are two ways to look at this.

One, it could in fact be a New Era in the WWE. We had Capitol Wrestling Corporation, World (Wide) Wrestling Federation / The Golden Era, The New Generation, The Attitude Era, and finally The E. “E” for Extension, as in Brand Extension. Should we even consider the HD Era and the Creation of the WWE Universe??

Two, CM Punk’s second reign starting this Entertainment Era, could exactly be like Edge’s second reign starting the Rated R Era and Randy Orton’s second reign starting the Age Of Orton and Triple H’s second reign starting the McMahon-Helmsley Era.

Let’s all hope it’s the first one.

From recent shows, I'd say this was the WWE Twitter Era. :D

I don't think it's necessarily a new era. They've gone back to building feuds at a slower pace, giving the stories more time to develop and pull in people's interest, and there have been improvements in the mid-card. The Beth/Natalya storyline has made the Divas division watchable (as opposed to oglable). The tag division still needs work. And the rise of Punk may well be important, but we'll see.
