Ok, so I'm guessing that I'm not the only one who's read that she's wanted for charges for having sex with a minor, but let's stop and think for a minute. The kid was 17, an age where most states consider him a full blown adult. And seriously, it takes two to tango here people.

Plus, it's not like she's 40 and doing it. She's at least in her early twenties. And I mean, is it really THAT big of a deal?

Sure, it was a teacher and a student so that makes conflict within the school. But she was a substitute so it's not like she could give out a grade, and unless the kid is a homo and wanting to play hoops on the girl's team, it really doesn't affect his position on the basketball team either.

Seriously, some people just want to make big issues out of everything these days.

I'm going to make this very simple for you.

Just because 17 is legal in most states, doesn't mean it's legal in every state. She broke the law of a state she had living in her whole life. When you break the law, you go to jail. Yelling that the law is stupid is not a defense. Those people who civilly disobey laws for political purposes understand that there is a penalty for civil disobedience. This is not a cast of protest, but a case of a **** being ****ty.

So, while the law is probably dumb, she was aware of it, and broke it, and deserves to be punished.

I'm sorry but FTS is way more than right here. You have to remember, even if the kid was 18, it's still most likely illegal in that state for a teacher to be involved in a relationship with him anyway. At the very least, she would still lose her job. Taking your view, if the kid was 16 it would be bad? Or would that be ok too?

The end result is she deserves what she gets. If it was so important to her to have that relationship she could have waited a year, or quit her job first.

Perfect example of the double standard regarding this issue. Now, if 17 is the legal age of consent in the state in which this takes place, that's one thing. If it's not, however, then she simply broke the law.

However, if this was a man messing around with a 17 year old girl, people would be marching through the streets ready to string him up to the nearest tree or to give him a hefty prison sentence.

However, aside from all that, Gail Gagne is a teacher and that used to be something of a sacred trust. Even if she's a substitute, she's still a teacher and it's just another stain on all teachers everywhere. Even if 17 is the legal age of consent, she should never be allowed to teach again anywhere at the very very least.

What's "legal" does not always define what is "right and/or "wrong". The kid is still just that...A kid! And, she is a teacher. She has an implied code of conduct within her job, and that's one of them.

I know when I was 17, I was not able to make "adult" decisions on my own, and of the course the kid would want to have sex with his teacher. He's not the first, last, or only one to have that fantasy. I'm not saying she took advantage of him, but I'd put her more at fault than him.
