Wrestlemania 28 goes to Miami

Dark Match Winner
Miami will officially be named host to WM 28 with a Press Conference Scheduled for later today 2/9/11. I'm personally glad that its in Miami and not Toronto because I'm going to my first WM this year and if I enjoy myself like I know I will I would like it to be a yearly thing and Miami is a much better tourist spot than Toronto. I guess now the rumors can start for WM 29.

Mod Note - Please keep all WM28 location discussion in this thread please. Failure to do so will result in an infraction.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Well, one thing is for sure - we all know where 30 is most likely being held. My guess is MSG. Selfishly, I'm hoping for Chicago, but we hosted 2, 13, and 22. Looking at the facts, I would guess MSG gets 30, and Chicago gets 31. 29 is anybody's guess though.

First off cboedeker2 (come up with an easier name to glance at, get the requisite posts and change the name) You are 99.999999% correct about WMXXX being held at MSG. It makes the most sense because MSG has always been the Spiritual home for the WWE, right back to the WWWF and probably even Capitol Wrestling.

I am sort of sick of the fact that Florida is getting another one so soon after their last one, and that it is another damned outdoor Stadium. Outdoor Stadiums are not great Wrestling venues from a viewer point of view. This is with the current set up that they have used for the last few open air Manias. Really Florida had gone for 23 years without having Mania. They could have gone with another center, I know that Vince is getting old and is probably using this to scope out retirement condo's or something. But having Mania in the southern part of the US again. I mean as a total, since Wrestlemania III, 10 of them have been in what is effectively the southern half of the United States. Two of them have been out of the US.

Personally I would have loved to have seen Wrestlemania back in Las Vegas again. Better time zone for other parts of the world.

I believe Vancouver is bidding for WM. Changes are they will get WM29.

Miami ... I guess its ok though I would have preferred another city since Florida just hosted WM 3 years ago.

Being Canadian myself I was REALLY hoping for toronto, literally praying. They just did Florida a few years ago, they've only done Toronto twice before, and it'll be over 10 years now it seems. There are a ton of Canadians (like myself) that can't get passports to travel, and I guarentee if it went to Toronto it'd sell out easily.

actually it makes some sort of sense since The Rock is heavily rumoured to be inducted into the WWE Hall Of Fame next year, and what better place than his hometown to be inducted

With them having the new, humungous(sp?) stadium, i actually thought that, next year, Wrestlemania would be in Dallas, although, it doesnt kill me that it will be in Miami.

If in fact The Rock does get inducted into the Hall of Fame, there is no better spot this his hometown.

If this is true then I have to say I'm pretty disappointed to say the least. Florida just had a Wrestlemania not to long ago, I don't see why they possibly need another one so soon. I was really pulling for Toronto..or at least somewhere near by so I could attend my first Wrestlemania as I have no intention to travel all the way down to Florida.

I'm kind of mad that Wrestlemania is coming back to Florida after only 3-4 years. They just had a Wrestlemania, can't they wait a while for another one?

I'm biased of course because I live in Indy, but Wrestlemania really should come back to Indianapolis. It's been over almost 20 years (by the time 29 comes around it will be over 20 years) since Wrestlemania was held in Indianapolis, and we have a much better stadium now (Lucas Oil Stadium) to host it, and with us renovating the downtown area for next year's Super Bowl, it would be a great place to host a week of Wrestlemania events. Have the HOF ceremony at Conseco Fieldhouse (where the Pacers play and where Summerslam 08 was held). And if for some reason there's bad weather in late March/early April, we know how to handle that stuff (unlike Dallas).

One thing I do disagree with though that someone posted was that I love outdoor stadiums. I posted about this awhile ago, but Wrestlemania 24 is one of my favorite Wrestlemania of all-time not only for the great card it had, but also because to me it had one of the finest settings in Wrestlemania history. I love outdoor shows. Watching a show start off in the evening time and watching the sun go down as the show goes on into a beautiful night setting makes for a really intimate setting to me (corny perhaps haha). They're always a risk of course due to bad weather, but watching a show outdoors is a great thing. It's hard to explain, I just love outdoor shows. To me Wrestlemania IX is still one of the most underrated Wrestlemanias because it easily had the best setting of the early Wrestlemanias (besides the Sky Dome).

So if the stadium in Miami is outdoors, then it'll be a very cool setting I imagine. I understand the perks of Miami (great weather usually, big time tourist city, etc.), and it should definitely get a Wrestlemania at some point, just not so soon after Orlando got one. Although it will make for a perfect place for the Rock to get his HOF induction. Also Randy Savage I believe still lives in Florida, so it could also serve as a great spot for the Macho Man to get his long overdue induction in case they decide to not induct the Rock (I highly doubt they'll be inducted at the same time considering now that HBK is going in, those two are the biggest stars of the modern era not yet inducted).

But congratulations to Miami and the fans living there. I just wish selfishly it would come back to Indy lol.

I would also love to see it in London. That would be historic, and Wembley Stadium is an incredible stadium. Summerslam 92 (also an outdoor show) is one of my all-time favorite WWE ppv's and the setting at Wembley Stadium was a big part of that. And Toronto always has great shows.

Dallas can wait awhile. Texas has had enough Wrestlemanias lol.

Ive seen a lot of people disappointed about it not going to their state/not being close enough for them to go to etc, which obviously going to play into how they feel about it.

Im from England, and have planned to go to Mania 28 since I went to Orlando for 24, as I didnt have the money, due to University, to go to 25, 26 or 27.

Me and a friend have been discussing it for what seems ages now, whenever a slight little rumour crops up "Toronto is close to getting Mania" or "Las Vegas is" or wherever, it got me more fired up and excited about it. Id have obviously been excited regardless really, but then today, it comes out that its Miami, its kind of a blow as I visited Florida for 24, and fancied going somewhere completely different.

From things we've read, and seen the past few months, I thought all signs were pointing to Toronto, what, with it not having it for so long (10 years since the last), with the Edge rumours flying about, and the possibility of seeing Trish Stratus inducted into the H.O.F, it was something we both were really looking forward to, and both considered to be more or less confirmed.

Im sure we'll still head over to Miami, but its a minor blow when I was looking forward to visiting somewhere else, especially Toronto.

I think it makes sense because you can induct the Rock in the Hall and have him compete in his final match at Mania. I just hope the WWE has a tent type structure over the ring incase it rains like a son of a bitch or have it be the first event at the new Marlins Ballpark.

If its true Miami is getting Mania 29 its because the Rock is going into the HOF and I believe it will be held in the new Marlins ballpark it suppose to have a retractable roof. Mania XXX will be MSG its has become a tradition that I don't see them going away from as long as Vince is running the show and can u say HHH for the HOF at Mania xxx it will be the perfect ending to his in ring career. I put my money on Cowboy stadium for Mania 31 and the Deadman for the HOF.

Another Wrestlemania in Florida? That truely sucks. As a Canadian who has never been to a Wrestlemania I was already making plans to go to Toronto for my first ever Wrestlemania. I think it's a bad idea I mean this would have been the 10 year anniversary of the Rock vs Hogan match which is probably the most emotional match in Wrestlemania's history and one of the Rock's biggest matches ever. Would have been perfect for the Rock to be inducted next year with it also possibly being Edge's last match and Trish also going into the HOF in her hometown and what better place to have Cena vs Taker then Toronto if they wanted to give us that match especially if they wanted to end the streak, the emotion that would come from those fans would have been amazing, now we get yet another Wrestlemania in front of a pretty much dead Florida crowd again. Very disappointed by this news.

"FINALLY......THE ROCK HAS COME BACK!!!!" i hate to bring up old news but cant you see this as potential for THE ROCK coming back with vince for his final stint with the wwe. Him as the sure fire first ballot in his home town would be great, him coming back n hyping his induction with a rock bottom on raw on the next rising star (kind of hbk esque) would be great.

And you can bash me all you want, no matter what the rock, mcmahon, or cena say, i stay faithful for a icon vs icon JOHN CENA VS THE ROCK AT WRESTLEMANIA 28!!!!!!!

I agree with you it sucks that Miami has another Wrestlemania because they just had it 3 years ago and i would go to it if it was in Canada. The only thing is why not in Montreal? Don't tell me its because of the Montreal Screwjob, its been at least 15 years get over it:banghead:. Anyways if it was in Montreal i would go.

Well let The Rock rumours begin! I think it is pretty nailed on The Rock will be inducted into the HOF now. I cant see him passing up this opportunity, especially in his home town. He's stated time and time again he wont wrestle again, never say never but I see him coming out in front of the live crowd, cutting a promo and maybe laying the macketh down on some heel who decides to interupt...maybe see a peoples elbow for old times sake.

Then thats it. Game over. Rocky is done forever.

at this point im not starting rumors or anything, but never say never in this business, weve heard from numerous legends in this business "never again""im done" bllah blah blah.

it doesnt change the fact that WE WANT ROCK!

Yes, MSG is clearly getting XXX. They had I, X, and XX. They last time they had a house show there, Cena said "See you at Wrestlemania 30." Probably not so much for Chicago though - since Wrestlemania 22, it's been in a huge stadium (as opposed to an arena) every year, and I doubt they want to have 50,000 less people in attendance if they can help it. They're already going to have to make an exception for MSG, I don't think they'd do it two years in a row. Chicago doesn't have any big indoor stadiums and it's too cold there to have an outdoor one. But nearby Indianapolis has a great chance to host one at some point.

Lolwhat? Wrestlemania is at the same time every year no matter what time zone it's in. And I don't understand why you're complaining about it being in the South "again"? That's 10 out of 25 since Wrestlemania III...10 out of 23 that have been in the US. That's less than half that have been in half of the country. ???

LOL! Slow down there, cowboy. Yes it's convenient that The Rock will go into the HOF in Miami, but I guarantee that had very little or nothing to do with why it was picked, lol. (They've never connected a wrestler's hometown with where they go in the Hall of Fame before, why would they start now? Besides, people make way too much of Rock's connection to Miami...he's not from there, he doesn't live there now, his only connection there is that's where he went to college.)

Also, it's not the Marlins new ballpark(Miami Ballpark), it's Sun Life Stadium, home of the Dolphins. The retractable roof probably made Miami Ballpark appealing, but they may not have wanted to commit to a stadium that doesn't actually exist yet. Plus Sun Life Stadium has double the capacity of Miami Ballpark.

I'm seriously surprised about this. I was going to go to Toronto from Australia to watch this WrestleMania. Why would it be in Miami? Wasn't there a WrestleMania in Florida just recently? Secondly, Toronto is perfect for a number of reasons.

1. Third Canadian WrestleMania out of 27.
2. Rock's biggest moment was in Toronto, 10 years ago.
3. Trish Stratus (rumoured to be inducted) is from Toronto
4. Edge (rumoured to be retiring) is from Toronto

Poor move WWE. Florida could have waited a few years. I assume WrestleMania 29 will be between Toronto/Vancouver, Dallas and Indianapolis.

Damn Miami got the Super Bowl and Wrestle Mania next year. That city gonna be making hugh money down their next year, especially if the Miami Heat make it to the NBA Finals aswell which is a great possibility.

Now I know that there is already a thread in place about the location of Wrestlemania next year so don't bother posting saying that.

This thread is about a lot of complaints in that thread regarding the fact that Florida had Wrestlemania 24 and are getting another one. There is a logical reason for why Florida, along with more "southern states" are getting Wrestlemanias over their northern counterparts but first some history:

California has the most Wrestlemanias with 5 (2, VII, XII, 2000, and 21)
New York comes in next for most Wrestlemanias with 4 (1, 2, X, and XX)
Illinois comes in next with 3 (2, 13, and 22)
Michigan has 2 (III, and 23), so does New Jersey (IV. and V), Ontario (VI and X8), Texas (X-Seven, and XXV) and now Florida (XXIV, and XXVIII)
Then Indiana has 1 (VIII), sharing the same number with Nevada (IX), Connecticut (XI), Massachusetts (XIV), Pennsylvania (XV), Washington (XIX), Arizona (XXVI), and Georgia (XXVII)

This means that of the only 16 states and 1 Canadian province have had the privilege of hosting a Wrestlemania now a slight trend over the last 5 years has developed, that I previously mentioned of, "southern states" hosting Wrestlemanias this is because of a 3 main things:

1. The Climate. Wrestlemania has typically occurred the last week of March or the first week of April, now "southern states" will have a close to 0% chance of weather so severe during that time that WWE would not have to worry about issues for their fans or performers traveling to the location for the biggest show of the year.

2. Money has moved. In case it isn't painfully obvious yet I am in fact a resident of Florida, and honestly speaking people in the "southern states" like Florida have a lot of disposable income, like people in the North in the late 80's and Early 90's did This means they can shovel out the money necessary to personally go see the event but also the Cities have the tax dollars to host the event.

3. The people have moved. If you haven't seen the results of the 2010 census yet it is worth a gander since people are moving from the north to the south in greater numbers then the reverse. Over the last 10 years the populations of the four states who have hosted Wrestlemanias in the past 4 years (Florida, Texas, Arizona, and Georgia) have all had a higher percent increase in population the states who held the first 16 Wrestlemanias, excluding Nevada and Ontario. Meaning the market is growing in "Southern States" more then in the North.

Now lets all remember that WWE is a buisness and like a buisness they are going to go were the best chance of making money is even if it means going back to one state more frequently then another. Does it anger fans in the other 49 states and internationally that Florida is getting another Wrestlemania more then likely but Florida and the "southern states." are the markets for WWE that are the most likely for a safe profitable Wrestlemania.

Thoughts?

I work in business and sport so I know exactly where this thread is going in terms of economic impact and revenue. However I truly though Vince should've done everything he could to take Wrestlemania back to Toronto. Its been almost ten years since WWE has had wrestlemania there. Everytime the ppv comes to that town, there is just magic in the air. Some of the greatest matches have taken place in Toronto. Matches such as Hogan/Warrior, Hogan/The Rock, Undertaker/Flair, Debiase/Roberts and the list goes on and on.

Myself personally I've never been to a wrestlemania and hopefully if it comes back to New York for Wrestlemania 30. However with the way the economy is going, Vince has a point with keeping the big events down south. Thats where the money is at these days so why not milk the cow as much as you can before it goes dry.

As cliche as this might sound, it might be enticing for the most electrifying man in sports entertainment to work some type of angle there as well. I'm not saying that is one of the main reasons, but it could work out to be a nice bonus. If ya smell what the rock is cookin.

I guess I am a little disappointed that WrestleMania 28 is not going to be in Canada. Just to be clear though, I am from Scotland and it makes, literally, no difference to me where the event is held. What does matter to me though, is how into the event the fans will be. Now, I am not taking a shot at Miami fans because I am sure that they will give it everything they have to ensure that WrestleMania 28 is a hot event. That being said, there hasn't been a WrestleMania in Canada since WrestleMania XI and I am sure that the Canadian fans would absolutely blow the roof off of any arena that it is held in.

That being said, I am sure that it wont make any real difference to the WWE. I am sure that they have made this decision on completely selfish means and that is the way that we need to get used to things being done. Miami is going to bring in huge masses of fans and the event will sell out in absolutely no time. The WWE clearly feel that Miami is a market that they can milk for a few more dollars and it probably makes a whole lot of sense to have the event held there, like it was not too long ago.

The location means very little to me, as I stated. Really, I am just hoping that it sells out and the crowd is as grateful for the event being held there as they should be because I am sure that a lot of other people would have loved for it to be held in their respective states and Miami seems to be getting spoiled with massive events.

Some one needs to do his research marlins park will open 2012 for baseball so that means it will be ready way before wrestle mania and I posted this before it became official. And we all know msg is a lock for mania xxx and do you really think hhh will be wrestling after mania 29, he is a god at msg besides hulk hogan no other wrestler banner hanged over the walk way at the garden entrance. And its a possibility mania will go to dallas before toronto so the undertaker HOF is not really over stated its a big possibility.
