Curtis Axel was never eliminated, Roman Reigns went over the top rope, therefore Axel actually won the match.

A Axel victory would have been better received than the Reigns victory.

Axel frequently appears on NXT I believe, and NXT is the flagship show of the company right now, therefore he is a bigger star than than Roman Reigns, who has not appeared on NXT in years.
