Who is Triple H's greatest rival?

Getting Noticed By Management
I was thinking the other day that all the big time stars all had someone who was their equal that would elevate them to new heights each time.

When you think of one wrestler like The Rock you automatically think.. his greatest rival was Stone Cold they were fighting each other 4-5 years straight for the most part.. when you think of HBK you think without a shadow of a doubt Bret Hart and him were at the peak of their careers against each other and had a lot of great matches together many years for this fued... Even mankind and undertaker many years for these two as well.. just wow those matches were always intense...macho man and hogan would battle for years as well. ..

These are just a few examples of what I mean..

Undertaker had Mankind
HBK had Bret Hart
Kane had Undertaker
The Rock had Stone Cold
Hogan had Andre The Giant
Flair had Hogan
Macho Man had Hogan
Sting had Flair
Stone Cold had Vince McMahon
DDP had Macho Man
BigShow had Kevin Nash
Warrior had Hogan
Steamboat had Flair
Superstar Billy Graham had Dusty Rhoades
Dusty Rhoades had Ric Flair
Cena has Orton (new era)

Then you think of Triple H.... who would you consider his greatest rival that has long term fued with? When you think Triple H who is the first rival that pops in your head naturally for him?.. I mean he faced everyone but at the same time never had a marquee fued that I can think of like the ones stated above, he has accomplished everything.. but when I think of triple H i just can't think of a rival that was his equal that he had a long term fued with like the ones listed above that spanned YEARS more or less consistantly and brought out the best in each other.... maybe I am over looking something.. so can someone help me out?

I think the answer is pretty obviously The Rock. They had feuds in the midcard, they had faction wars, they feuded over the World title, and they both kind of built each other up to main-event status.

The Rock was the first one I thought of. Sly basically covered what I was thinking about Rock and Trips rivalry.

Though I really think a close second is his feud/rivalry with Shawn Michaels is one of his bigger rivalries. The whole thing was personal and it was portrayed perfectly. You had Trips being the guy that was groomed by the vet, and then the hit leaves and he had to pick it up. All of their matches were memorable as well.

I believe it goes to Rocky, but Shawn's a close second, mainly because it was only at the Main Event level.

I'm gonna go with HBK, I know HHH had some great feuds with Rock but the intensity of his matches with Shawn just swings it for me. They played the 'former friends' angle beautifully when they faced each other and the heat HHH got when he mashed Shawn in the back with the sledgehammer was immense

Shit initially I immediately thought of Shawn but that's just me being short sighted I suppose as when I saw mentions of Rock, it made much more sense. Shawn and Hunter only really feuded for like a year tops, but he and The Rock were at odds for essentially the length of Rock's career.

They feuded in the mid card, they had faction wars, shit they event main evented a bunch of PPVs together over the World Title. Shawn and Hunter only had a few encounters like these.

Shit, Rock's first title reign came after beating Triple H and his very last match was against the members of Triple H's faction. Though Hunter wasn't in the match or anything, the connection is still there.

For all of the reasons already stated, Triple H's greatest rival is clearly the Rock. A few years have expired since they have faced off, so we tend to forget just how great their rivalry was. Triple H has had many rivals over the years, but the Rock has to be seen as his main rival.

Triple H's biggest obstacle, though, his biggest opponent, continues to be the IWC. You know, the guys who continue to state that he only achieved what he has achieved because he married the boss's daughter. Or that he is a title hog. Or that he wouldn't put anyone else over. Or that he plays too much backstage politics. All of that sort of nonsense. Granted, some aspects of all of this may be true, but he does not get the respect from the IWC that he truly deserves and has earned in my opinion. When his career finally concludes, I think his most significant opponent will have been this unfair perception from the never satisfied IWC.

Easy, I posted this in the Old school thread, and it fits here. Its the Rock

Triple H/The Rock:
This feud is looked at mostly during the time of the attitude era. But it began a little earlier, and evolved over the years.

1996 Rocky Maivia's debut:
On opposite teams, they first made contact at the 1996 Survivor series, and it was only the begining. It turned into a whole different beast when they both led their own factions in D-x, and The Nation. Though it was billed as a feud between both groups, I firmly felt then as I do now, it was a battle between those two men.

The Ladder match at Summerslam would normally have been the end of a feud. Not for these two. They traded the IC title then, and you would assume that it wouldn't go further. Boy, we were wrong.

They both switched Heel/face status AGAIN. As it started
Helmsley/Heel vs Maivia/Face
Triple H/Face vs The Rock/Heel
To now at that point in time
Triple H/Heel vs The Rock/Face

Now, The rock was alone at this point as the peoples champ, the face Rock, and Triple H was alone with Chyna as a manager, but it faded into Triple H with D-x as heels, vs The Rock, on his own as the face. And they had their amazing Ironman match, a strap match at Fully loaded etc. The feud even crossed over into the 6 man Armageddon hell in a cell. Its as if no matter what these two ALWAY parallel each other. And for the success of EACH of their feuds, whether each was Face or Heel, it didnt matter. I consider this the greatest feud of all time. Due to versatility.

Okay so when people think of Scott hall you think of Kevin Nash .. not because they were each others greatest rivals.. but because they were the best of friends..

The same holds true for HBK and HHH .. they only fueded under a year.. I would doubt they would be truly considered each others greatest rivals etc.. HBK's greatest rival was Bret hart in his Prime. When you think HHH and HBK you think DX..

But I can't argue the Rock, he makes more sense in this as many have said.. Triple H and Rock had this fued between them FOR YEARS during the attidue era and before..I can agree there..

thanks for the clarification :)

I think it hbk.. i know they played as friends and as an enemy to one and other but either way they were great whenever those two were in the ring together

The Rock... i will say is a close second, trips and rocky had some pretty awesome matches in the day, but im gonna go with hbk

id go with hbk aswell as they had tremendous match in 2002 at summerslam in a street fight aswell in 2004 they brought the best in each other i say and their close friends of screen but on screen they seem to generally hate each other like if it was real

The only reason I can't pick HBK over Rock, is that Trips obviously tagged with HBK, rivals should always stay as such. To my knowledge, Rock and Trips NEVER tagged with each other, unless on a forced tag.

Therein lies the one slight edge I give to Rock over HBK.

Though the wars that HBK/Triple H had were amazingly passionate due to the history, I can see why people would say him.

I personally feel The Rock was like his Arch nemesis of sorts, since they never got along, in either of they're careers.

they did one time when they both were part of the corporate ministry, and i do agree on that part a rival should never be tag partners.

its hard to say he has had, foley, rock, angle, orton, jericho, hbk, stone cold, and the list goes on.

but when i think of hhh, i automatically think of jericho, because much like the rock the also had some good feuds were they were switching heel/face and some even involved stephanie

Rocky simply because HHH and Rock have been fueding with each other for most of Rocky's career. They have been feuding over titles and their stables (Nation of Domination + DX) have had numerous fueds.

Honestly, I would have to go with The Rock. From up and comers to leaders to champions. Hard to argue that. However, I think that Steve Austin and Shawn Michaels should also be honored in this sense.

Steve Austin and Triple H just had great chemistry. Rock/Triple H had some better stories, perhaps, but the in-ring chemistry between Triple H and Austin was great. When I think of their feuds, I think of the 2 out of 3 falls match. Great match.

With Shawn Michaels, I feel that the personal aspect of the feud made it fun to watch. With Shawn coming back and supposed to have one match made it so special. Great feud, obviously great chemistry and just had a great build. Short-lived to a certain extent, but it was fun to watch.
