For her upcoming fight in a few weeks on free TV, this thread is to educate people on the greatness that is Gina Carano and to give reasons for why everyone should become a fan and watch her fight come August 15th on Showtime.
Gina Carano is without a doubt the biggest draw outside of the UFC, and perhaps the most beloved fighter there is right now. There are hardly any fans of this sport who do not absolutely adore this woman. Why? Well, let’s get to it.
I first had the pleasure of seeing Gina Carano at Elite XC’s debut event, Destiny, when she went one on one with Julie Kedzie. Before the fight, they showed Gina backstage shadowboxing and I just remember being awe struck at how beautiful she was. But her beauty did make me question her skills, I must admit. Nevertheless, I instantly became a fan because who wants to see such a pretty face get messed up? Well, I had nothing to worry about because Gina Carano is not just a pretty face. She’s a bad motherfucker to go with it, and she showed it in her fight against Kedzie.
After viewing this fight, I was in love. Gina showed in this her ability and heart. It won fight of the night honors that night, and deservedly so. And it certainly wouldn’t be the last time Gina would kick ass and provide the fans with tremendous entertainment. Nope, it would just be six months later where at Elite XC’s Uprising where she would face Tonya Evinger. And this time… it didn’t take Gina 3 Rounds to get the job done.
As you can see… pure dominance. And Gina showed that she wasn’t just a Muay Thai expert in that fight, but that she also had terrific ground skills to go with her stand-up. She showed herself as a true well-rounded fighter.
Elite XC then signed a deal with CBS, and for its very first program on the channel, Gina Carano was booked to fight Kaitlin Young, so the whole World could witness first hand how amazing this woman is. And as you will see, she did not let Elite XC, CBS, and her fans down.
I apologize for the lame music in that one, but that was the only version of the fight Youtube had to offer. Nevertheless, you can still see how Gina, once again, completely dominated that fight and was able to finish off her opponent and show how well versed in the game she is.
Now with her popularity growing and growing, Gina was as big as ever. And new opportunities were coming her way each and every day. Photoshoots with prolific companies, movies, etc. But her biggest gig was perhaps her role as “Crush” on NBC’s American Gladiators. Take my word for it folks… she was literally the only reason to tune into that show. Her beauty combined with her strength and atheism, she provided the show’s best moments, by far. Below is perhaps the most watched/famous moment from the season.
But even with her popularity growing and growing, her passion and heart remained with Mixed Martial Arts. And at Elite XC’s third show on CBS, Heat, she would have her hardest fight yet against Kelly Kobold.
Kelly Kobold’s record at the time of the fight was 15-3, but what made her such a threat was her wrestling ability. Most of Gina’s opponents thus far were stand-up fighters, but Kobold was strictly a wrestler. She wanted no part of Gina’s stand-up, and her game plan was to either get Gina on the ground and pound away, or hold her against the cage and wear her down, while grinding out a decision. But Gina would have none of that.
As you can see, Gina was able to defend Kelly’s wrestling and beat the hell out of her, like she had all her previous opponents. She showed once again that she is as well rounded as anyone in the sport. Stand-up, jiu-jitsu, and wrestling… all the keys you need to be successful in this sport, and Gina has showed over and over again that she is skilled in all those aspects.
After the Elite XC show, Heat, Elite XC folded. Since then… Gina has not had a fight, unfortunately. However, that changes August 15th, as she will have her toughest fight to date against Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos.
A lot of people are doubting Gina in this fight. Cyborg is definitely a different kind of monster than Gina has ever had to face before. She’s big, ripped, fast and hits extremely hard. Her record is 7-1 (that one lost being her very first fight). However, I have the utmost faith in Gina to pull this off, and so should you. Cyborg might hit like a beast, but so does Gina Carano. Gina was recently on Sports Science, and this video shows just how powerful she is.
Watching that, I really don’t know how anyone could ever underestimate this woman. But one thing is for sure… the fight is going to be AWESOME. So make sure you tune in August 15th on Showtime, guys. You will not regret it.
Before I end this post with a bunch of amazingly gorgeous pictures of Gina, I would also like to note that her beauty and fighting skills are not the only reasons to be a fan of hers. She is as humble and as sweet of a person you’ll ever come across. She treats her fans incredibly well, does countless of charity, and is gracious for everything she has in every single interview she has give. She is a true class act in ever sense of the definition.
