Which wrestler just works better as a Face?

Mid-Card Championship Winner
I see a few thread son here about who should turn heel. Cena is always mentioned but that wont happen, he is a better face and the obvious choice for this thread and then we have seen many failed face turns like Del Rio, The Miz and I suppose Sheamus. These 3 guys just fit heel characters better!

The one man in WWE who I think has nearly everything and would work REALLY well as a face is Jack Swagger.

He can go in the ring, he looks great and he isn't 'bad' on the microphone. I think with an American Hero (face) gimmick and strong booking he really could go places.

Why have WWE never given him a face run?

Hm. Off the top of my head Rock I always preferred as a face, his Corporate Champ run was good too but he had to tone down all the stuff that got him cheers like the catchphrases, the crazy insults, and of course he had to play a cowardly heel which just pales to his Just Bring It face.

I remember them trying to turn Goldust heel, so to speak, but taking off the costume and the face paint and just letting him be Dustin. Unfortunately he was given some pretty terrible stuff to work with, including a valet that was so nasty to look at she makes Vickie look like Trish in comparison. So yeah, I would take face Goldust/Dustin any day.

Face APA was a hell of a lot more fun than just mute heel Acolytes.

Taker I always preferred as face, it's actually kinda ironic how this guy that's supposed to be associated with death is more fun to watch as a legendary superhero coming to save the day than a evil guy trying to steal your soul.

I'm sure there's a lot more but those are the ones off the top of my head

As for Swagger I don't see him being booked any better as a face than he is now, but yeah I don't know why they never tried him as a face. Appearance wise he has a young pretty boy face that if anything makes him less scary/intimidating as a heel. So I wouldn't mind him getting a shot at being a face, since I don't see them pushing Swagger anytime soon I don't see it doing him much good but it could be a nice change of pace.

Actually I notice quite a bit of "We The People" chants whenever the RAs are in the ring, so while it would require their gimmick to do a 180 the RA probably could've pulled off a successful face run if they had the time.

As for Undertaker, I feel he is best as a heel. He couldn't really do it today, though I could be proven wrong. His late '98–'99 "Prince of Darkness" edition was my favourite.

I feel DDP should have stuck around as a headlining heel, then walked off in to the sunset as a legendary face in the same way as Ric Flair.

Speaking of Flair—he needs to be heel. You LOVE him as a heel.

X-Pac is an interesting suggestion. I like him as face. When he was with Kane trying to get him to talk and become more human, I loved X-Pac. He was simply a "bro".

Cena was heel full blown if u ask me.. Watch backlash 2003 Cena vs Lesnar for the wwe championship. I would say he was heel

Of the current roster.. The only one for me is Ryback.

Ryback is lost as a heel, no charisma, no character, minimal heel talent. The WWE should have kept him as the face "machine". Kids were marching around to it and it worked to some degree. There is no place for his character to go now, only TNA.

He has no gimic at all... I'd rather a bad face gimic than this rubbish

Swagger has no mic skills... That hurts when you're tring to be a clean cut face.. Give him time to develope, in the meantime he makes an awesome heel.

Dolph Ziggler and Cody Rhodes.

Both were young guys whom the powers-that-be apparently decided were the guys who would take WWE into the next decade.....and were pushed accordingly. I mean, really pushed, and it seemed incongruous that management chose to portray them as bad guys. Both were too young, clean-cut and small to feature as evildoers; they just didn't fit the mold.

Yes, if you're a WWE performer and stick around long enough, you'll get chances to play both face and heel, yet Dolph and Cody kept up the bad guy personae way too long.....there just didn't seem to be any reason why these guys were so angry.

I like both of them a lot better as faces; their youth and exuberance in the ring makes it easy to cheer for them. Admittedly, it still doesn't seem either one is headed for the major stardom management seemed to forecast earlier in their careers, but there's plenty for them to do in their current positions.

I feel there are numerous guys who work better as a face, but off the top of my head, four big ones are:

The Undertaker: Others have already summed up my opinions on why Taker just works better as a face, so I won't bother repeating all of it. Long story short, in my book Undertaker just makes more sense as a good guy, as odd as it sounds. He's a superhero-like character who has a dark edge.

CM Punk - Punk never clicked for me as a heel. I'm biased because I'm straight edge myself, but to me booking a storyline where Punk is a bad guy because he doesn't do drugs or drink alcohol and has a high moral standard is absurd. Straight edge can't be a negative thing in my eyes.

Booker T - While the "King Booker" gimmick was amusing, it got pretty old, and plain Booker T is better. Booker had an exciting moveset and his every mannerism just screamed "cheer me". As a heel, Booker T just feels like a watered-down version of himself.

Christian - Like Punk, I know a lot of people preferred Christian as a heel, but for me it just never worked. Christian has always worked better as a face to me, because his moveset is more face-oriented and his personality just isn't suited to being a heel. In my opinion Christian should be a top babyface superstar in the company and should have been booked that way for years on end.

Of the current roster.. The only one for me is Ryback.

Ryback is lost as a heel, no charisma, no character, minimal heel talent. The WWE should have kept him as the face "machine". Kids were marching around to it and it worked to some degree. There is no place for his character to go now, only TNA.

HOLD ON 5 SECONDS.

Ryback I disagree with you on because he does have a character, it's just that no one wants to give him a shot. And are you forgetting Ryback's face character was the number 3 face until the WWE killed his momentum?

As for the question, I think this post made me think, and I feel like Wade Barrett would do okay with a face run. Once upon a time I thought it couldn't possibly happen (just like with Dean Ambrose, but, well...). I feel like this Bad News gimmick could easily be a face gimmick and that Barrett's mic skills could get him over.

I agree. I've been saying for a long time
Give swagger that roll as a face. I'd have
Hacksaw Jim Duggan be his manager. He will work the crowd
And u.s.a.Chants will be very loud. Wwe are still hoping
On cena, Batista, sheamus to be the main faces. I'm all
In for swagger.

Ryback is already a proven face that will work well.
Cesaro can be heal and is still cheered. Better as face.

These guys need something.

Cena would be a great heel. But needs to turn at a mania
After a main event. Mania 32 or 33.

It wasn't that he was straight edge it was that he judged everyone and shoved is views on people, that is a very negative thing

Ryback was going down a storm as the big guy, his cackling bully antics were an absolute riot. Unfortunately as soon as he got paired with Heyman it completely changed course and its been a disaster since. Being paired with Heyman works for some but it was the start of a downward spiral for Ryback. Shame, the character had legs.

Austin's run as heel wasnt much cop.

At this stage in Takers career he'll only ever be a fan favourite.

RVD - Good good guy.

Big show - flounders as a heel at times. Much better lower upper card lovable giant.

D Bry - He was a fantastic mysoginistic prick and great as the no chanting angry little guy, but hes doing well in his current role.

Rey Mysterio - for obvious reasons.

Cesaro, as his style and moveset tends to illicit shock and awe, which is naturally going to get him cheers. His power moves and rarely seen in the WWE moves are more suited to a babyface, as are his feats of strength.

If you are going to go for a former WWE superstar, Then I would have to say that Austin was always a far better face then a Heel. Austin seemed to struggle as a Heel early on in his career and while he did start building some momentum after his famous King of the Ring Promo, It was no until Wrestlemania 13 when he turned Face that he really got over with the fans and took the Wrestling world by Storm and became the greatest Anti Hero in WWE history. As for the Current Roster, I would more then likely have to go with Mysterio. Rays character and size makes it very hard for somebody like Ray to ever be a successful Heel and is more then likely why WWE never attempted it. WWE Tryed it once before with a similar Wrestler in the form of Spike Dudley which turned out terrible.

I was going to bring up Show but you did it first. I completely agree with you. Ten, fifteen years ago, it would have been the complete opposite. These days, when he's a heel, it seems like there's something missing, like he's trying too hard. By all accounts, Show is one of the nicest guys on the roster behind the scenes. I think that because the lovable giant character he portrays is so close to his real persona, that it just seems to work.

I have to say I'm on the fence about Swagger being a face. I think it has possibilities but I'm not too sure it would work. His facial features, at least to me, seem to show arrogance and bravado. Could he be a good face? Perhaps. I thought we might see it when he cashed in on Jericho (I think, or was it Edge?) and when he abandoned Michael Cole after Cole's disparaging remarks.
