Where has Sandman been?

EdgeHead504

Dark Match Jobber
Did the Sandman retire? I haven't heard a word about the guy wrestling or doing anything since he no-showed a TNA tv taping back in August of 2010.
I know his son is a wrestler now and they had a match together, but haven't heard a word about the guy. Just curious because he was my favorite ECW original.

I figured. Just wondering cuz we haven't heard a thing about him in a long time. He just dropped off the face of the planet

Sandman was signed to TNA for the EV 2.0 crap and no-showed a taping. He still appears at the odd independent event even though he is fat and an even worse wrestler now than he was in the nineties. He'll be appearing at Shane Douglas' ECW Hardcore Reunion, or should I say, "the event where a group of guys will further tarnish the image of ECW because they're nearly all old and over the hill."

What image? Of being a third rate indy promotion full of garbage wrestling with a few legit talents? God forbid we tarnish that image....

Lol @ trashing Sandman as some ECW hack when the dude was able to get over with both the WCW and WWE audience.

The guy wasn't a great "wrestler" by any means, but he was a tremendous character with balls of steel. I have the utmost respect for him.

Anyways, I'm sure he's currently doing well. Most people don't know but the Sandman has a few very successful business ventures and only did pro wrestling because he loved it, not as a means of living.

The image of a company which brought forth talents such as Eddie Guerrero, Chris Benoit, Rey Mysterio, Rob Van Dam, The Dudley Boys, Chris Jericho and even Stone Cold Steve Austin to a certain pedestal so they could gain the opportunity to enter the mainstream wrestling promotions such as WCW and WWE.

ECW may not have been the biggest company in the world and it may not have had the prettiest wrestling, production value etc, etc but it brought a lot of people to a spotlight that gave them the chance to further their careers. Before Stone Cold was giving the middle finger and drinking beer in WWF/E he'd already done it in ECW.

THAT is the image they're tarnishing by doing another ECW reunion.

I still don't get the appeal of the "Original" ECW. I mean, you're hinging your whole point on three legends, a murderer, a surgeons wet dream, a tag team, a stoner. Most of whom, came from WCW in the first place. Don't say Benoit was in ECW first, he wasn't. Neither was Austin. Jericho was in ECW for, what, a year, at most?

Face it, ECW was about as influential as Global Wrestling Federation.

EXACTLY. Buffy you rule.
90% of the original ECW roster were picked up from an AA meeting anyways. Sandman included.

Even Raven was picked up out of the gutter, so to speak. I say this, even as I am a huge Raven fan. I'm not ashamed to admit it. Yes, ECW, after it started bowing to a little mainstream pressure, was fairly watchable, too. Just not a fan of "hardcore" wrestling, in general.

The problem with ECW is that people retroactively judge it based on the present opinions of some of the styles they used. You have to at least look at what they were doing in the context of the time it was done. If hardcore wrestling sucks then I guess Foley sucks, which is not something I am prepared to imply.
