When will Dean Ambrose finally defend & drop the U.S. title?

A REAL American
Dean Ambrose has been the WWE U.S. champion for awhile now after he defeated Kofi Kingston for the U.S. strap. But since winning the title Ambrose rarely has defended his U.S. title. He defended a few weeks ago on RAW against Mark Henry in a open challenge match in where the rest of the Shield interfered causing the DQ saving Ambrose's ass once again. But when will Dean Ambrose finally defend his U.S. championship in a legit one-on-one match and drop it?

If the WWE is serious about unifying both the IC title and the U.S. title, then Ambrose has to drop his U.S. title to the guy who will compete in the title unification match whomever that is. It would be silly if the WWE had Dean Ambrose defend his U.S. championship in a triple threat match against the rest of the Shield at Wrestlemania. If they are going for the TT match then leave the U.S. title out of the picture. So why not have Ambrose drop the title before then?

Dean Ambrose could drop the U.S. title to someone like Christian or someone else to that degree. Roman Reigns would make a decent U.S. champion but keep the U.S. championship out of the Shield's circle for good. Me personally I say why not make Christian the new WWE U.S. champion since it's the only title in the WWE that Christian hasn't won. But in your opinion.

When will Dean Ambrose finally defend & drop the U.S. title?

I don't know... They've had Rollins and Reigns rag on Ambrose about his lack of defenses. Could be a point of contention... All three had belts, now only Ambrose does signifying he's the best of the three.

As far as when he could/should lose it, triple threat ladder match at Mania sounds like something I'd really like to see. Might give Rollins a chance to hit a massive highspot and get the recognition he deserves. Phoenix splash from the top of the ladder and it'll go over like Hardy's swanton.

2 options. 1) he drops it before Mania because Rollins and Reigns don't help him out like they did vs Henry and that sets up thw triple threat at Mania. Or 2) Reigns and Rollins have enough of his crap and they have the triple threat at Mania for the title (or 1v1 Reigns vs Ambrose and Rollins in Reigns corner at first, but gets involved somehow towards the end and his true loyalties come into question)

I'd like to see him drop it on the road to Wrestlemania; The Shield storyline doesn't need that championship involved, and perhaps putting the title on another talent can give them something to do for the time being, even if it doesn't land them a spot on the Wrestlemania card (maybe even it lands them a spot on the card versus Big E, though that may be a reach).

It's an easy enough title change to book, given the fact that Roman and Seth bailed Dean out the last time he defended the championship and the ongoing conflict within the group.

I would have to say that he's going to drop it soon. Maybe to Roman Reigns at WrestleMania or to someone like Mark Henry with no help from Reigns and Rollins.

It really is not Ambrose's fault he hasn't defended the US Title! The shield, have been such a focal point that you do forget he is the Defending US Champion. The Shield are going to break up rather soon i would imagine, and i think dropping the US title at WM is a perfect idea..

I think Roman would make a great US Champion,he be someone who could on his own suggest that both the IC Title and us championship be unified. I also think that,Rollins would make a excellent US Champion as well.

I don't think that Ambrose will remain champion for too long. If anything, I think he'll drop it either at WrestleMania, shortly following WrestleMania or at one of the Raw episodes heading into WrestleMania. As others have pointed out, it's not Ambrose's fault that he hasn't defended the title since October and the fact that both commentators and his fellow Shield members have begun ragging him about it suggests that MAYBE there's been a long term reason as to why.

Regardless, it's still gonna be a dark cloud hanging over Ambrose's first title run in WWE. As of today, Ambrose has been WWE United States Champion for 283 days, tying Barry Windham's 5/13/88 - 2/20/89 run for the 5th longest in the history of the title. Tomorrow, Ambrose will hold the #5 spot all to himself, but it'll definitely be a run that's been viewed as mixed at the very best and lackluster in the minds of most. It's not Ambrose's fault, but it is what it is.

This is why the tag team titles make more sense for a trio stable like the Shield, and explains the origin of the Freebird substitution rule: It allows three guys to share the titles, and get heat for cheating in the meantime. I think the mistake was to actually take the tag titles off Reigns and Rollins. While they had the tag titles, I think it was more compelling -- each would defend their titles, and there was a game of one-upsmanship as well. That was somewhat lost when Reigns/Rollins dropped the straps, and has since been revitalized without them.

Now Ambrose, even with the US Title, is subservient to the greater storyline that is being played out with The Shield and the Wyatts, and naturally, the US Title isn't the focus. Anytime that the title is an afterthought is a mistake in my opinion. You're cheapening the premise of what it means to go after a title. Imagine instead if the Shield still had all the straps, and were going into this feud with the Wyatts.

Well I seem to be in the minority it seems because I see Ambrose holding onto the U.S. Championship at least until after WM & maybe even till around Summerslam. I can still see The Shield facing off in a triple threat match like many have predicted, including myself. But if the WWE does decide to go that route I don't see the U.S. Title being on the line in that match, especially since I think the WWE already sees Roman as past the U.S. title & the WWE would almost forsure book him to win the match. So I don't see Ambrose even defending the belt again until Extreme Rules at the soonest.

As far as who dethrones Ambrose... Mark Henry, Rey Mysterio, Kofi Kingston, The Miz, Jack Swagger, etc. wouldn't benefit anyone or gain anything from a U.S. Title run. The belt is worth more collecting dust around Ambrose's waist. Reigns, Rollins, Cesaro, Sandow, etc. are all ready for IC gold & don't need the US belt (or in Cesaro's case, he has been there & done that). Which doesn't really leave many contenders to actually take the title from Dean. Bray is seemingly already a main eventer in the eyes of the WWE. Harper & Rowan aren't ready for singles gold yet & should feud with The Usos in the coming months for the Tag Team Titles. Guys like Tyson Kidd, Brodus Clay, R-Truth, etc. just aren't even worthy of a title shot at this point. I could see Ambrose having some singles feuds with Cody & Goldust coming out of Mania. But both are already decorated singles champs & once again would gain virtually nothing from a U.S. Title run. Though I could see a sympathy title win for Goldust if he is still super over & if the WWE needs a transitional champion before getting the belt back on another heel.

My ultimate pick to take the title off of Ambrose is Sami Zayn. Zayn more than proved on NXT ArRIVAL that he is a superstar & should be on the main roster soon & I could see a great storyline build where Ambrose holds the U.S. Title for well over a year & everyone from announcers to superstars start giving him crap for not defending the title enough or for only getting cheap victories. & then around Summerslam Zayn can debut & finally take the U.S. Title off of Ambrose in a giant upset victory ala The Kid/Razor Ramon.

I could see it happening either the RAW after Wrestlemania to establish post-Wrestlemania season or Extreme Rules.

Defending the title at Wrestlemania would have the match be overshadowed by the multiple main events already set in stone.

Hopefully they try to let it headline a weaker PPV like Payback because he's having a pretty historical lengthy reign.
