What Will Happen With the Phenomenal One?

Pre-Show Stalwart
Ever since AJ lost the World title to RVD his carrier went downfall. He hasn't won any big championships except maybe the Tag Team titles(the TV title isn't prestigious). Sure he faced Bobby Roode for the title and that's it. His feuds have become boring in a way(the story with Claire Lynch for example) and somehow TNA thinks that putting him in a program with Daniels is still interesting. Yeah their matches are great as always but that is all their is. And on top of that he can't fight for the World title until BFG. Now what do you think AJ should do does he take time of or maybe a hell turn and finding a way to get a World title match.

They gave him time off. The idea is to replenish him. Because, you know, 10 years straight on TV can exhaust you and your creative team. The next thing for AJ Styles is rest and later a comeback.

Yeah, exactly what KillJoy said. There is no reason for AJ Styles to rush back. They don't need him at this point. AJ NEEDS this time off, and when he decides to come back, hopefully they make him different because I can only deal with so much TNA Savior comebacks.

AJ got stale over the 10 plus years, and if he comes back I can't see him NOT winning a championship. He'll have a few more runs as he's still relatively young, and he is the TNA Company in a nutshell.

I don't buy the idea that AJ Styles ever got "stale". I just think the problem is that TNA thought they had a number of other main event guys in place who they put more of a focus on, which left AJ out in the cold. He still entertained the holy fuck out of the fans no matter the match, but he held a feud with Daniels for what, two and a half straight years, because of this?

The way they wrote him off says his comeback has to be somewhat different though. If the same AJ comes back it'll be a little awkward considering that promo he cut on his way out about not being TNA's janitor anymore... unless they play this the way they did the Nash/Sting exit.

I think most people are hoping that Styles will return and TNA will give him a big push. The most popular theory right now seems to be having AJ Styles win the BFG Series and then challenge for the title at BFG. It's a notion that's made all the more concrete with the unusual stipulation of AJ Styles losing a triple threat match against James Storm and Christopher Daniels in which the loser is unable to challenge for the title until BFG.

I believe that Styles winning the BFG Series and becoming a top contender in TNA again is what most fans hope happens. There'll be a ton of disappointment if that's not the scenario TNA ultimately plans for Styles.

Has Styles gotten stale? To some degree, I think he has but it's had more to do with how he's booked rather than Styles himself. Styles is someone that's sort of drifted around in the mid-card picture for a long time in more of a work horse role than anything else. He was there and was still strong in the ring, but he's done little in the past couple of years that feels all that important. In my opinion, 2012 was a lousy year for Styles dominated by the abysmal Claire Lynch storyline and yet another feud with Daniels that I never found the least bit interesting.

I think people are just hoping to see Styles return more true to form as someone that's one of the top stars in the company rather than someone that doesn't seem to have anything fresh going for him.

AJ Styles really is a Phenomenal wrestler and I think it's a shame he hasn't been World Champion more and longer!

But if they are giving him time off now, that's fine. The position/storylines they put him in weren't very good for him. Let him rest, recover and when he comes back I gaurantee people will care.

When I think TNA I think AJ Styles.

When he comes back he can have a simple purpose: to be World Champion and for a LONG TIME! I'm sure the fans can get behind his reasoning. He can say he will work to win whatever matches he has to win to get his World Championship and he will fight whoever he has to fight to stay World Champion. Not in a heelish way but in a 'give it all you got' kind of way.

AJ Styles can put on great matches and if he had time off to rest and recover he can headline PPVs along other guys like Roode, Aries, Storm, Angle, etc.

i dont know, i thought they would use him to kickstart the x-division, but now that destination x is no longer, that seems bad...
you know, have him become x-champion and refusing to cash it in because he deems it the superior belt or something like that.
with him going in for himself i think it could be amazing, culminating with champ vs champ at bfg or something if he wins the bfg series and has the belt at the same time... dreams, i guess.
if they want to get one more big rum out of him it may soon be time. i mean who knows how long he can do his high-flying stuffs, hes not getting younger. i dont want to know the price he pays for all those moves he pulls off.
however, PLEASE dont have him align with A8, aligning him with these clowns would be so bad i cant believe it.

After his last promo, i think he will become heel, most likely he will somehow join aces and eights, or he will comeback to team with someone like James Storm, and will turn on him.......

Some might agree and some might not, AJ Styles has been with TNA for 10 years, he has wrestled everyone on their roster on more then one occasion, either he needs to take an extended vacation to allow fans to miss him and be a fresh thing again or part ways with TNA so he can venture into other play grounds like WWE where he can have new fueds with new guys alongs as WWE actually allows AJ to show case his talents and not screw him over like they did with a TNA guy I think WWE had him as Kavol who was Laycools toy pretty much that never won a match, they made him look weak and stuff but he could of did well with the mid card guys.

If WWE took AJ teamed him with Flair as him mentor and let him fued with Ziggler and other guys they might be able to put on some pretty god matches.

Either that or team him with Aces and Eights, maybe interfer with Brooke/Bully wedding but other then that whats left for AJ to do, pretty much nothing.

AJ Styles lost his smile. He simply needs to find it.

When AJ returns, he will be better than ever. Problem is, there are so many main event guys in TNA that can and will have great title runs over the next few years, like Storm, Roode, Aries, Bully Ray and of course Hardy. Its hard to fit AJ in because there is only one belt that will help him. That's the TNA World Championship. Until TNA an make room for AJ, then he may as well stay off TV. He can only fight Daniels so much.

I love AJ Styles, and its a hard idea to grasp, but he has kind of grew away from TNA, just as TNA grew a part from him.

You're talking about Low Ki who became Kaval in WWE. Can't stand that name; always makes me think of Mortal Kombat.

As for going to WWE, there are pros and cons. Pros: more money, different opponents. Exposure, but not necessarily fame (at least among those who only watch one promotion). The only worthy motivation to go to WWE as it is now would be money and just to branch out/try something new, imo. I can definitely see why people would say that since he's done it all in TNA he should move on to a new place with new opponents, but the idea of changing his moveset, which I'm sure they would make him do even though that's what he is famous for, is preposterous to me, even if it is to learn their "style". Given that WWE's style is rather formulaic at times, that's not an upgrade. It's a downgrade with more money, because lasting fame on a larger scale isn't guaranteed in the long-run if you're gone from the company and the only people who remember you are the ones who knew you before you went. I don't know if strictly WWE fans ever go, "Where's Kaval?" or bother to look him up. Maybe they do; I don't know.

Other things factor in, of course: dissatisfaction with a company, etc., so I could see it either way, but honestly, I don't think I'd want to watch AJ there. Not if his style changed and they gave him a stupid gimmick. Given how people criticize his mic skills in TNA, I hate to wonder what would happen in WWE. Maybe they'd pair him with their AJ and they can be "AJ & AJ" and skip down to the ring together. Maybe he would be a talented guy who couldn't get over there, especially if he couldn't be AJ in the ring. In TNA, he's over by default, and people love that he's an original.

In any case, that's just me thinking sideways. He's more than earned his break, and I'm sure he's coming back to TNA, but I hope they don't give him another stupid storyline. The man has had enough.

It is so simple what they are doing! He will be gone for a while. Heal up some nagging injuries. Become the guy who ends Ace's and Eights! Wins the BFG series! Wins the title and retires!

I still think it's a possibility that he is the man to revealed as the leader of the Aces and Eights. Unlikely, but possible. Another option is to go the Sting route and have him ultimately be the guy to save TNA from the An8's.

In the end, I think this will result in him gaining back the World Title at Some Point. You can't deny the dude is talented in the ring and is synonomous with the name TNA. I'm in no way saying he is as talented as him, but he is to TNA what Shawn Michaels was to the WWE. Michaels never left the company, was the best in ring performer they had most of the time during his career, and could fill any spot on the roster from opening match to main eventing. AJ delivers for TNA.

I think he deserves one more long reign as TNA Champ. A good feud with a guy like Aries or Roode. Then he can kind of coast as a main event caliber performer who doesn't need the belt to get over.

Two issues:

First...
Some might agree and some might not, AJ Styles has been with TNA for 10 years, he has wrestled everyone on their roster on more then one occasion

Yeah him and Aries worked an amazing program together.

Wait, what? You mean AJ and Aries didn't work a program together at all? And haven't even had so much as a single match since Aries returned to the company??

After AJ returns, this feud is just begging to happen. Aries has the personality and mic work to guide AJ through really selling the promos and out-of-ring storytelling, and the matches would be potential match of the year candidates every time they were given enough time to work.

I'd love to see AJ win the BFG series with Aries as champion. Now that would be a Bound For Glory main event. But even having both of them in the BFG series this year(assuming its brought back) would be good enough for me, because it would insure we would atleast see a match between the two.

And secondly...
If WWE took AJ teamed him with Flair as him mentor and let him fued with Ziggler and other guys they might be able to put on some pretty god matches

AJ with Flair as his mentor, huh?

I've seen that movie. It didn't end so well.

As for a Ziggler/AJ match, I suppose it would be fun to watch as a one-off simply to see them try to one up each other for best looking dropkick. Beyond that, I'm not sure where the interest is.

If AJ did ever go to the WWE(don't hold your breath) a feud with Cena, considering both have been the posterboys for the two major national companies over the last decade, or Punk/Bryan, two guys with which he has some history going back to ROH and macthes up well with physically, would be much more viable choices than one with Ziggler would be from an interest and match quality perspective.

I mentioned in the Taz thread about AJ possibly being the centerpiece of A&8's while that could be possible, I'm reminded of how Sting left WCW during the rise of NWO and how he came back darker and edgier. I could see AJ doing that to a degree, especially if the A&8's main star has a long history with AJ like Daniels (doubtful) or Angle perhaps. It's a shot in the dark from me I know, but AJ could become Austin-esque in his attitude upon returning. The time off could be a world of good for all sides if they nurture the story right.

Wait, what? You mean AJ and Aries didn't work a program together at all? And haven't even had so much as a single match since Aries returned to the company??

This. I want this on my screen right now. And AJ's butt, but that's an entirely different matter. That's a hugely entertaining feud just waiting to happen -- that needs to happen. I think he needs some man-based drama rather than them trying to put him in a controversial position a la the Claire/Dixie/Karen sagas again. Too bad he couldn't have gone out on this break in a better way, but if he comes back as the leader of Aces & 8s, I don't really know how to feel about that. "Ambivalent" is what comes to mind at the moment. At the same time it would kind of make sense. Kind of.

Being that he walked out the way he did and sorta seemed like a heel, I'd like to
see him join Aces & Eights and he would then be able to get a title shot just like d'von did.
