AegonTargaryen
Championship Contender
1)I just watched that segment today and had pretty much missed out on the months preceding and following that.
2)So Seth Rollins had been a heel who sort of deviously undermined Randy, as part of The Authority, as well as curb-stomped him on two occasions as was mentioned by the commentators. Naturally, Randy Orton resurrecting the "Vicious Viper" aspect of his character and snapping on Rollins was a certainty.
3)But I noticed that instead of evoking pleasure or the sense of "Vengeance", it seemed to evoke in me a little bit of pity and sadness(yes, I am aware wrestling is FAKE), and since I happen to love Seth Rollins, a little bit of embarrassment since Seth was essentially being this coward thrown around and beaten up by Randy. We've seen so many cowardly heels but Seth was really scared here, scared for life and begging, "no Randy, please, no, don't hurt me..".. Also, The Audience seemed to be ambivalent as well. At one point of the segment, I heard boos, and a little later, a part of the audience was chanting "RKO".
4)Now I understand how the face-returns-and-destroys-heel segments work. Almost always, we seem to revel in how the heel/villain is being beaten up. And the commentators also happen to be rather intense and vociferous in their commentary as they declare, "Austin. Austin. Austin. That ba**** HHH deserves this". But in this segment, there was such an awkward silence and muffled monotone of a voice coming from Cole , which is only characteristic of segments where the FACE happens to be beaten up/destroyed inhumanly. So it made it a little ambivalent. On the one hand, Cole sounds muffled/sad at what he is seeing happen to the heel(Rollins), on the other, he is saying that Rollins did all those bad things to Orton so it's only fair.
5)I suppose I needn't elaborate any more.
What are your thoughts?
What was your initial or overall reaction after watching it? And I'm talking about- how did you feel about the atmosphere during the segment- the audience, commentators, and so on.
Would you consider this one of the best face-redeems-himself-by-destroying-the-heel segments, or even XYZ-wrestler-destroys-XYZ-wrestler segments?
