What sport would succeed with Vince?

If any, what sport idea would succeed with Vince McMahon at the helm?

We all know about the XFL and the flop it became. And this past week Vince teased the XBA for a laugh.

However, could you see any sport with Vince and the WWE managing it succeeding?

I personally would love to see a WWE take on Darts. Right now its becoming so theatrical as it is. Throw in a few feuds and storylines and it can only improve things. Imagine Mike Knox, Umaga and Big Show stepping up to the Oche in numerous weeks for example. Quite a hilarious mental image.

Thoughts?

If this needs to be moved to the sport forum I am sorry. I couldn't decide between placing it in World Wrestling Entertainment or here because it covers both topics.

No sport.

Vince knows how to do wrestling well. He has showed that in the past and I'm sure he will show us again in the future. I honestly think that he can't be successful in another sport when the thing he is supposed to be good at is failing miserably at the moment.

Vince simply isn't a sports promoter type.
He's a busines man. And his business is wrestling (cheesy, huh?)

Anything that doesn't need every detail meticulously crafted would fail under Vince's ownership.
That's why the XFL failed. That's why the XBA would fail. They're simply not businesses, they're sports. Vince can't do sports.

without a doubt it would be the UFC. Dana is going to ruin the ufc, ok maybe not that far but he's definately no vince. I have been saying this for years that the UFC needs a live once a week show like raw. Fight nights are too far apart and ppvs cost too much for casual fan. People need to get to know the talent. They could have a fight or two, interviews, and title fight everyone once in awhile. Would be tremendous draw. The ultimate fighter was a huge success because it had the monday night raw lead in. If it went head to head with raw we could a good fued between the shows. Dana is dropping the ball on that one, its probably not even his call, but he has a lot of power.

I would have loved to see what vince could have done with the shamrock, tito feud.

Vince has proven time and time again, that he is only capable of doing one thing, and one thing only ... Wrestling.

He has not shown that he can be successful doing anything else. And I really think the man is lucky to have a base of fans he knows he can constantly rely on, that will buy his stuff no matter what he puts out.

Vince McMahon made a MAJOR accomplishment in taking wrestling mainstream. Since then, he really hasn't had all that much competition, and in many ways, remains untested as far as competition goes.

WCW was really, the only major rival he had. So I think a lot of the praises McMahon receives is somewhat misplaced. He enjoys the success he does, simply because nobody has any interest in being in the wrestling business. Therefore, Vince enjoys his success by default.

If more Executives and companies had an interest in backing a wrestling company, and thus gave Vince a lot more competition over the years, then we could have really seen what Vince can do against serious competition. But thus far, after taking his company national, he has really only been tested once in his entire career.

Why not Rugby? IT is a sport that is quickly becoming popular in North America, and with many of the skills that the WWE provides, rugby could succeed. As their is no national body in place in North America, so there would be little to no competition. He could easily throw down some teams in certain markets around North America and have them progress nicely with help of the USA network.

I completely disagree. Dana White is the best promoter in combat sports right now. Nobody, including Vince, understand their business and its fans better. I agree that UFC does need a weekly show. And so does Dana.

About a month or so ago, Dana was asked about the NBC Strikeforce deal; and Dana replied that the UFC would not enter into any television agreement that they didn't own. He said the Strikeforce deal was basically Scott Coker airing infomercials in prime time. Strikeforce had to front all the costs for the live events, they had to pay to get their product on the air, they had no right to any percentage of commercial time for resale (usually around 20%), and they had no downside guarantee.

Dana is waiting until it becomes blatantly obvious to the networks that they can no longer avoid mixed martial arts and until they are willing to pay to air it. Dana doesn't want to enter into any agreement without a guarantee that they won't be kicked off the air next week. It would tarnish the UFC brand and make it even harder to find another TV deal to replace it with.

As far as the sports thing... I personally don't think much of Vince in anything he does. He can market and manage a brand better than anyone, outside of that I don't think he's much good at anything. As mentioned by another poster above, Vince has only ever been challenged one time. I believe that if pro wrestling was a business that large companies with resources and great creative minds wanted to be in, and if there was any competition in the industry whatsoever, the wrestling landscape would look a lot different than what it does today.

Other than some obvious ones like UFC or Boxing (you could really tell the crowd a story by selling and then mounting a comeback like Rocky lol) I think an interesting venture that Vince could try is Tennis.

It would be tricky since it is considered a 'gentlemans game' but because it is only singles or doubles, its almost like a singles or tagteam match. McMahon could control who would be at the top of the rankings. The pecking order would be based in pretty much the same way the WWE has it: Some skill, and a lot of personality and looks, unless you can consistently put up an amazing match. An aging star could also put a young and up and comer "over" in a hard fought 5 set match or whatever.

Or for example Federer could job to Nadal at the french and vice versa at wimbledon. Or instead of one player winning repeatedly on clay and the other on grass, you could switch it up. And if you create an off screen rivalry like John McEnroe vs pretty much everyone, it could create a ratings stir. And since after every match, the winners always get mic time so you could make clear "heels" and "faces" lol. Mic time is very important in tennis, as world number 3 Novak Djokovic found out the hard way at the US Open when he blamed the crowd for their lack of support. And heels can argue line calls, shout at the audience, all that good stuff. It would be a spectacle to say the least haha.

Basketball/baseball and other sports with many people on one team would be hard to manage in a wrestling type way unless you change the rules of the sport or something. Which based on the XFL, probably isnt the best way to go.

If Vince took over the NHL, i can absolutely see him taking that League to another level..Not onlyl is Gary Bettman an idiot, he doesn't know how to market the game..If theres one thing Vince is good at is marketing and getting people to watch something...This is coming from a huge hockey fan & would love to see the NHL become mainstream..up there with baseball
