What sparked the birth of the PG Era?

I'm confused, you only watch WWE because of CM Punk and Jericho. Who are smackdown superstars. But you say you never watch anything other than Raw. So how is it that you are a huge fan of CM Punk if you never watch him. If you contradict yourself so quickly in your post how can any of us take you seriously.

And WWE is down right now, because of lack of real competition and new star power. D-X, John Cena, Randy Orton are all stale. Give it a few years. After a few years od star building, and another lame duck cartoonish era like we had in 92-95. WWE might find it's nitche again.

Jericho and punk was on raw at one time. They move to different shows sometime. Jericho has been on raw recently, what are u talking about. I have watch punk since his indy days. I know a lot about punk. u cant say i dont know anything about punk. I watch wwe sometimes when i am bored. I dont watch smackdown or ecw that much. I usually catch on the internet, i should of been more clear. Like i stop watching ecw and smackdown a few weeks ago but I see it sometimes on the internet that is what i meant. Wrestling is dieing. People dont watch that much anymore b.c it is stale and too predictable.

You are going to have to back up all of this w/ actual facts or all you are doing is bitching and complaining. Please, validate what you wrote.

I partially agree with everyone and partially agree with snowdogg's perspective. I think there is a happy medium here that the majority is electing to ignore. Wrestling is down right now, there is no doubting that. I think when Benoit died, it made things very real for the wrestling business. That made the process of the cycle back to PG rating a bit quicker. I also think that storylines would have become stale if they stuck to the attitude era. It was probably beneficial that the WWF went PG because when they go back, we might have another prodigious spike in ratings. However, to do that.. we need competition. TNA will not bring that. Let time pass and let the process evolve. That's probably the best case scenario for the business of wrestling. You can't have the attitude era for 20+ years. It wouldn't work. You also can't have the PG rating for very long either.

We'll see where it goes from here. All we need is a few big guys to step up like Steve Austin and Rock did and we'll be right back to the glory days.

edit: I do also think booking/creative/etc. needs to get a lot better.

Dude I dont have to back anything what I said b.c it is all facts. Wrestling tday is garbage and stale. It has always has been since the end of 2001. WWE is dieing b.c of the horrible writing, bad wrestlers, people being push to early(ex sheamus and other people) and other things. I am telling the truth, wrestling has become a shell of its former self. Since 2002, wrestling started to decline. People like cena, hhh, and among other has killed the wwe. The pg era is also killing it. That is why most people left the wwe. You have no idea what ur talking about. Benoit dieing may of had something to do with it but i doubt it. I think vince is just losing it. Wrestling isnt going to get any better at the rate it is going. And one thing kid, I am not bitching and complaining. I am stating facts here. Just look at the big picture. The audiences are gettting smaller at wwe events, people are losing interest in wwe. Dont be so igorant. The pg era is killing wrestling, look at the ratings. Rock and stone cold step up, yea b.c they were allowed to create their characters. IMO nobody is stepping up now, it been the same old shit for a while. WWE and wrestling in general has been declining. Someone needs to step up.

Everything happens in cycles. Though we weren't afraid to show blood in the 80's, that time I would still consider family friendly. Give it time, Vince will knock his pg crap off.

Its a way to create new fans, the children of those who grew up on the attitude era are to young to see that kind of stuff just yet and as parents, most people don't want to expose their sons or daughters to that kind of stuff until they are ten or eleven years old, maybe older depending on the person. I know I could safely watch pg era with my son or daughter and not have to worry about teaching them safe sex practices before they are ready. Just a thought anyhow and give it some time and things will get back to the way they were

A wrestler does best when he can be himself. Take for example Austin and Rock. Austin as the Ringmaster-didnt work. Austin began wearing the leather vests and drinking beer and being a foul mouth-people found that cool and it caught on. The Rock-just look at his Survivor Series debut-with that gimmicky blue and white outfit-fans hated that, some time later and he started to loosen up and became a success. Same with Triple H- the snob character-wasnt going too far, then he joined with Shawn/DX-success.

What Im trying to say is in this PG Era wrestlers and perhaps writers are more limited for ideas and styles. And its hard for an up and coming wrestler to express himself or even try to be himself. Everything is heavily scripted.

Nothing lasts forever, especially in wrestling. So we'll just have to ride this out.
