What is your Radio?

Mr. TM

Throwing a tantrum
Ever listen to the radio? I do, when I want to put away the iPod, and listen to something else.

I listen to CBC Vancouver for the radio. It is not a music station per se, but it does feature an array of music. Very little is mainstream, and if it is, it is Canadian. I get to listen to many of the up and coming artists in Canada and worldwide, and most of the time the music is very good.

But I listen too CBC Radio for a ot of reasons. THe news is always top notch, being that it is from CBC. There are also many editorial pieces featured on the channel, that are always interesting. But the two biggest reasons returning to the music are these.

Top notch documentaries and radio interviews of some of the greatest legends. Getting to hear an hour long interview with Bob Dylan, with Lenard Cohen, or with William Shatner were facinating to listen to. They are always on Saturday nights during the summer, when I am usually driving somewhere. They are wonderful pieces of an array of musicians who are usually very interesting.

The second reason is friday inhouse performances. Every friday, they bring in a music guest gives them an interview, and let them play some acoustic tracks. It is a great show to listen to as well as hearing some artists play their music in acoustic.

So what about you, what is your radio turned to? Is it Rock Radio (Something I love living in a bigger town so it is not the only station), Country (Something I love living in a bigger town so it is not the only other station), news, weather, sports, pop or anything else?

Not expecting anybody to know this radio, since I live in Denmark, but my part has a radio called "Skala FM" incredibly mainstream thing, only reason to really tune into it for me would be the fact that around noon there's a host that plays old hits from a specific year (different year every day) where the listeners then have to guess what year the music is from, so it's always nice to sit back and listen to some of the old music you either love, have forgotten about or heard for the first time.

On the other hand, if I'm in for a change so to say, I usually use the Internet Radio "Digital Imported" that provides a large scale of electronic musics, which I'm pretty sure quite a few people around here might have heard of as opposed to above mentioned Danish station, anyway, when I listen to Digital Imported it's usually the Vocal Trance channel I tune into, one of the few types I can stand, soft tunes and some incredible voices at times, and then there's of course the awful tune where since you're online, can replace easily with Youtube for the brief while.

The radio in my room is always set to 97.5 FM, which is ESPN radio in my area. Gotta get my sports kicks in. Plus I love waking up and listening to some great banter between Mike and Mike. In the car however the radio is usually tuned to country radio. However I will occasionally change it up and listen to whatever is on, as I can't stand commercials.

Funny, but I don't listen to many music stations on the radio these days. However, if I'm not listening to ESPN talk radio, then every now and then I'll check out 102.5 WFMF or Max 94.1 for a few minutes.

102.5 WFMF mostly plays the hits of today, and keeps me updated with the on-goings on pop culture. You know, what's in and what's out, that kind of dumb stuff. Also during the morning they play Kidd Kraddick in the Morning, which is this popular talk show based out of Dallas. I'm not a big fan of it, but I used to listen to it quite often and whenever I'm in the mood, I'll put them on for a little bit every now and then.

Max 94.1 is the popular rap station in Baton Rouge. The play big and local hits, and there's nothing more to them than that.

It's funny thinking about both these stations though because while I don't listen much to them today, back in the day I always kept my radio on in my room, or in the car. I would call and make request all the time (I used to request Mystikal a lot back in the day to Max 94.1, lol), and just enjoyed the fuck out of it. Today though, I feel like an old man being all about sports talk radio and stuff like that, and I think if my old self could see me today he'd slap the shit out of me, lol. But it is what it is. Radio's mostly dead to me, and I doubt I'll ever get a passion for it again.

The radio station I always listen to is 102.5 The Bear, Waco's Rock station. Ever since 2002 when I started driving, it has always been what I listen to in the car if I'm not listening to a CD. After so many years any other radio station wouldn't feel right at this point. I really like that station because they are always playing classic rock songs, which is my favorite genre. On weekends they do a show called "The House of Hair" where they play 80s hair metal, hosted by none other than Dee Snider from Twisted Sister!

The Point 91.3. It is run by a local high school and plays alternative, grunge and indie rock. All three genres of music I love to listen to so it makes the most sense. The problem is that the radio station doesn't come in very well throughout town so I can only really listen to it online or in specific locations.

The other channel I listen to regularly is 98.9 The Bear. It is the local rock station however I try not to listen to it as much now since I hate most of the newer music they like to play and they hardly ever play the stuff I enjoy like Nirvana, Alice in Chains and Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Theres only a couple of stations that i'll listen to. The rest of the time i'll probably just have my Ipod on.

Nova 919, Never Play more than two ads in a row. Good music station. Often playing the new stuff. Lots of Competitions

SAFM, These guys also play lots of new music, But this station is often filled up with Ads or talk shows. But they do have Something called the "Ad Free 50" Which is essentially 50 songs with no ads in between.

In The Morning I'll often switch between these two stations because they both play good music but they often run competitions.

Totally with you on Mike and Mike. Every morning when I get home from work, that's what I'm listenin to. When I'm driving and I don't have a cd in, I'm listening to 98.9 The Rock. They play pretty much every kind of rock, except the new wave alternative bullshit floatin around these days. While I work, I listen to 100Hits on my Windows Internet radio. I can skip songs, which is great because I would rather die than listen to Halestorm, and i get one little bullshit commercial after every like, 7 songs.

Several radio stations.

WQHL The Big 98.1
A little radio station that plays country music and runs adds for the local area. My radio either stays on this or one of the others that I will mention. It is also an added bonus that during high school football season they broadcast the games (even though most of the commentary is the announcer shouting "OH MY!" repeatedly on the majority of plays.)

Hot 102.7
I radio station out of a bigger town that I am not sure of that plays "Today's Hits". Granted the play that damn song by B.O.B. and Bruno Mars to fucking much. Some enjoyable music with some decent radio DJ's.

100.5 The Buzz
Same as the last one. Not really a local station, yet not to sure where it is from exactly. I consider it the best Rock radio in the area (mainly because it's the only real Rock Station in the area. Not that good, which is why I shy away from it most times.

Yep, I have a pretty bland taste in music. Majority of country music, fair amount of "Today's Hits", and a small amount of rock.

My radio station is 105.7 The Point. It's a rock station that plays mostly music from the early 90's to now seeing that it was est. in '92 or '94. They have two concerts a year called Pointfest and in recent years it has been 29 bands for 29 bucks. The Point has always been my favorite radio station and probably always will be.
