Let's say hypothetically, two years from now Cena's contract is coming up. Instead of resigning, Cena says he is going to explore other options (like Hulk Hogan did in the early 90s). Realizing he has no talent in acting or MMA, Cena decides to pull a Hogan and join TNA. Assuming TNA is still around in 2 years, how would this switch effect the business? Would it immediately turn TNA into the top dog or would it be just like Hardy, Angle, Booker T, Christian, and Anderson? I realize that Cena is a much bigger draw then all of these guys put together, but still it makes you think.
In my humble opinion, it would not make a bit of a difference if Cena went to TNA. At this point, the WWE is such a machine that it will turn out a new star to take over for Cena. Honestly, does anyone even realize that Hardy has left the WWE? Or has anyone noticed that Michaels retired? Does anyone even care that the Miz was on the Real World anymore? The answer is, we try to remember (or at least I do) and then the WWE just turns on the machine and creates a new star to take their place and in the process manages to legitimize a new star in a matter of months. How many people hated Sheamus at first and now think he's a legitimate big man (not me, I still hate him, but whatever). The WWE has done a phenomenal job of stocking its developmental territories that they have the ability to crank out new stars in a matter of months. Seriously, look at all the champions right now Hart Foundation, Kofi, Miz, Swagger, and Cena. All homegrown superstars and with the exception of Cena, all relative new comers. I mean holy cow, the WWE has completely started and finished an entire youth movement almost covertly.
There you have it, Cena would initially be missed by the WWE but I would say within 5 months he would have been forgotten with his name etched out of the history books and TNA would still be in a 2nd rate position.
So, what do you guys think? Would Cena make a difference in TNA? Would the WWE miss him? Does the WWE even need giant stars anymore?
