What happened to wrestling?

MisterRob

Wrestling Historian
I miss the days when wrestling was made up of wrestlers. Now it seems like anyone can be a wrestler and places, like Ring of Honor for example, are made up of guys who look like they're either IN high school or just out of high school, who set up cameras in their basements and cut "promos".

Watch this Ring of Honor video wire for proof of what I mean:

What's going on?

My questions is: What's happening to the wrestling business, and has it changed for the worst?

Thoughts? Opinions?

The over the top violence of the attitude era made wrestling a target of parent groups everywhere and WWE had to tone down the violence to keep its shows on the air. MMA got mainstream, so young adolescent boys who wants their testosterone fix would prefer MMA to pro wrestling. They would not want to be seen as liking a 'fake' sports even though they are able to enjoy the product. Reality television became mainstream, the toned down version of trashy Jerry Springer type of entertainment is no longer the exclusive of pro wrestling programmes. Wrestling became a WWE monopoly, which forces wrestlers that want to make it big to train to adapt to the WWE style, resulting in cookie cutter wrestlers types.
