Occasional Pre-Show
According to me,Striker was an interesting commentator.

It was probably just because he annoyed the other guys, he always tried to test their knowledge of the business and working matches from time to time.

He was a really SMARKY commentator which I liked, but at times it got annoying.

Also like everyone else said he's "I'M MARKING OUT!" comment was probably the final nail in the coffin.

What did striker do to get kicked backstage or commentating on the least watched show?

What WWE have done in swapped one industry exposing commentator with another. Booker T just so happens to be a significantly bigger star, that's why he go the job.

In fairness to Striker, he was trying to get superstars over. Unfortunately what he said was often just silly in context of a predetermined sport like wrestling. Booker T, well he's just stupid.

I personally think its an absolute loss considering the commentating is sub par at the moment and when striker was behind the booth i actually enjoyed listening to the match because he knew what he was talking about and like Y 2 Jake said above he could get superstars over unlike the current team who seem more interested in taking the piss out of each other and ignoring whats going in the ring which irritates me to no end , now with most of the irrelevant comments being thrown around during the shows i have to keep the remote and more importantly the mute button close

I preferred Striker over Booker, Booker is annoying and doesn't really commentate. Striker was a great commentator as he could do play by play and colour commentating. He was dropped as Booker is a bigger star but Striker was 100x commentator.

Meh. I'd like Striker to come back. We don't need Cole on both A & B brands.

Oh, and Booker needs to become Black Snow again. That was hilarious!

I'm not sure but I enjoyed his testing knowledge approach to the job.
I've been a fan since 1994 and I pretty much embraced myself into Wrestling and soaked up everything, results, moves, themes etc etc, and I've often found myself listening to x match and being told this is the first these two have met or first match of this kind when they happened a few years previous. (Hardcore title Ladder Match from Summer Slam wasn't the first ladder match for the belt, Big Bossman/Mankind was in November 1998, with Bossman winning) but JR who called both matches stated the Summerslam was the first ever. That kind of mistake pisses me off beyond belief, where as Matt rarely ever made mistakes of that nature, he just said silly things but Booker T pretty much made himself look an ass last Monday, keep saying Christian pins Orton it would do more damage to him (WTF.. Even COLE picked up on it and ripped him for saying something so obsured) JR knows how to call a match and King and him had that x factor that can't be replicated.

Yes striker should at least be on smackdown doing commentating!! Cole should not be be doing both shows striker did test the knowdlege of his colleagues!!! I think that was the beginning of the end. His high vocabulary annoyed the others!! Plus he could really tell a story and actually picked sides from time to time which i enjoy!! Not being on the fence of always sucking up to the faces!! If he liked a heel he liked them and vice versa

I believe the OP answered his own question..........at the Rumble when Striker did the whole marking out bit, you could tell Lawler and Cole both were flabbergasted that he said it, as there were rumbling papers, and heavy breathing.......i thought right then......yep, Striker is done. Sure enough..........he was. I thought he was great though.......and booker is downright awful, but Cole being a dick to him on air doesn't really help either.

2 words: "CENA's FREE!!" Matt Stryker isn't thr anymore bc they gave him a chance n he blew it.. ("cenas free") is just one example.

Striker was ok. At least he got his facts straight (yeah, except for the "Cena's free"-slip). Unlike Michael Cole who somewhat regularly does things like recently, when he falsely proclaimed several times during a match that Kelly Kelly was a former Diva's champion. Must have been embarrassing for him when right after the match she gave an interview and stressed the fact that it was the first time she won the belt.
And unlike Booker T, who doesn't really belong behind that commentator's desk. The weirdest commentator voice since Randy Savage. Not as annoying as Vince back in the day, but distracting, and not necessarily in a good way.

Matt Striker isn't there anymore because he wasn't any good. Oh, and as a wrestler, no one cared.

Is Booker good at what he does? Umm...they could find someone better. However, that someone sure as hell isn't Matt Striker. When Striker wasn't busy boring me to death, he was screaming about shit no one cared about. He just wasn't very good, and I'm not sure why every fan, ever born, doesn't just agree with me on this :)

ok quick recap for those of us who dont remember every single comment made during a show, anyone want to explain a) who he said he was marking out over and b) the 'cena's free' comment. Because I have no idea what anyone is talking about with these comments.

back on topic though, Striker was ok, but if (as people have suggested) Cole was taken off SD for a team of Booker, Matthews and Striker, I think you may witness the biggest car crash of a commentary team in history. I loved booker the first couple of weeks he was on SD but hes slowly but surely getting annoying (it may not help that Cole highlights every single mistake he makes). Matthews is decent enough but doesnt have enough presence to be the lead man on a show imo. and striker's testing knowledge would be wasted on these two as I dont think Matthews ever knew how to react and Booker most certainly wouldnt.

For christ sake though, lets get Scott Stanford on SD!, im not just saying it as a Zack Ryder fan but he has one of the most distinctive voices around at the moment and could (if given the opportunity) really step up and be a top quality commentator on Smackdown.

Matt Striker the former NYC school teacher who was fired because he called out to train to become a pro wrestler. When that story broke you knew the gimmick had to be The Teacher and it was. Matt brought his knowledge of the in ring work and brought it over to commentary and didn't play the audience for fools. Just like Joey Styles. But how can you do a job right and tell the in ring story (which is the way we learn what the moves are from the commentators) and you have Vince in your fucking ear telling you to continually talk about the main event that's 90 minutes away during a ex: CM Punk v Daniel Bryan match. I don't want to hear about a match that is not going on I want to hear about the match that's happening now.

Striker put guys over no matter heel or face just like Jessie Ventura would do except for The Blonde One (Hogan). Mark out moment was the last straw for a puppet like Cole ( which was a mark out moment for those who didn't know Nash was coming back) who at best is a third rate Tony Schivonne. Booker T is Booker T and your not getting anything new from Lawler unless it's "Shut Up Cole".

Matt Striker can get annoying at times but not as annoying as ix nay Tenay.

I liked Matt but he wasn't great; he did ok. I liked he had alot of knowledge about his craft, but that's what he supposed to do as a professional. THE "E" is gonna go through a trial and error time period until they find that perfect announce team. I love Booker but they've got to move him away from the table. Someone needs to fine or fire Cole for pointing out every single mistake Booker makes because this makes the product look bad. If the WWE is scripting this, they need to stop. What's the purpose of belittling a person on tv every week.On Raw there needs to be a refocus on what's happening in athe ring. The bickering has gotten way too old. But back to Matt, he wasn't anything special, but I think they should bring him back as a voice of reason to what's going on in the ring.

I liked the detailed knowledge that Matt Striker brought, and he was game about selling the storylines with his commentary. But his fatal flaw is that he's just too cheeseball. He comes off like a youth pastor or, well, a schoolteacher. And he was BRUTAL as the host of NXT. It's hard to put a finger on, but he just sounds wrong.

Josh Matthews is pretty good on color, a little bland but effective. Unfortunately he tends to miss stuff so he's not quite ready for prime time yet.

Michael Cole, despite all the haters, is a very good play-by-play man. They seem to be toning down 'Heel Cole' and slowly working him back to a more 'objective' approach, which is a good idea.

Booker T is god-awful. He's like Shannon Sharpe on CBS' The NFL Today. All energy, ZERO substance. I want to choke myself every time I hear 'BIZZZZness' or 'knows what it takes to win' or 'get the job done TONIGHT!' He brings nothing - absolutely nothing - to his commentary.

Lawler's one of the greats but his time is past. The Reader's Digest-caliber one-liners are so dated and out of place. CM Punk showed what a sarcastic color guy COULD be like (and Punk wasn't even THAT good in his stint on RAW - he was entertaining but still very green on the ins and outs of broadcasting.) But Punk's sense of humor was exactly the kind of thing that's needed in the booth, and nobody on the current roster provides it.

Matt Striker didn't do anything wrong, in my eyes at least. For me, he is the voice of the people. He is the voice of the fans. When he shouted "I'M MARKING OUT, BRO", what were we doing? We were damn well marking out. I loved that. He always sounds so interested in what he was watching. He calls the moves accurately, when the other commentators don't seem to know their arse from their elbow.

What he did to get replaced by Booker T is something we may not know for a while. Was it for the TLC comment? Or the Royal Rumble comment? Possibly. Vince is known to be both petty and strict when it comes to commentary. Above all though, I think it's because Booker T just happened to re-sign with WWE. WWE wanted to use him as commentator. Booker couldn't replace Josh Mathews because three strong personalities don't work on commentary, so Striker had to go.
