What about Josh ...

MAMACITA!!!!!!
Mathews that is ...

What about Josh Mathews?

As you all may have read on the WZ home page, "lead up" show guy Scot Stanton has secured himself with a new position as a comentator for WWE live tv and/or SD!

Now, my problem with this is I actually like JM and think that he has the capabilities of a "live" tv guy. Plus, the mans been doing his thing before Stanton showed up. If you'll all reminice with me .....

Who remembers Cole getting smacked around and embaresed by Rock? Probly a good chunk of you. And now where is Cole @? He is probly the most hated anounce in recent history, and he plays such a good slimey, smug, douch. You gotta just love to hate him. He has come so far from the skinny ass, geeky backstage guy who always got chumped. He's making way more money and gets tons more exposure, as one would expect.

Now don't you think it chaps JM's ass that this wrestling nothing has come up from WNBC and taken a job that very well could have been his? Maybe it wasn't an option, but hey, if I was JM I would be pissed. He seems to be comfortable behind that camera and he gets respect from the superstars. Its an actuall interview, not a sideshow. Sometimes its funny, but he is doing a job and. I'm prety sure he wouldn't mind a raise or a nod from time to time and not be dogged. He is always doing his thing on Raw and he probly know more about the WWE than Stanton. I guess well see how much he knows, and I hope he brushes up on his shit because I hate a fuck up ... any names come to mind??

The question through all of this is do you think its bad for WWE to be bringing in "outsiders" to do the jobs employees in the company are capiable of doing?

Should they be promoting from the inside? And do you think that it lowers the morale of the "backbone" workers of the WWE?

And whats your take on JM?

Do you think he should have gotten the nod to go live?

Do you think he would be able to attain "Cole status" as a cornerstone of the team in the forseeable future or Is he even a worthy candidate in you opinion?

Fire away ...

I'm also a fan of Josh Mathews as well and I really wish that he got the nod to work at least SD with Striker as I loved the interaction between the two. Grisham just doesn't have that great of a voice to listen to as a commentator and that's probably the main reason why Cole is there on SD to add a little more pizazz to the announce table.

But as for that Scot guy, as long as he isn't as clueless as Mike Adamle was, I think it should work out for him. I'm just hoping they don't sacrifice JM's spot in order to put this new guy on.

Definitly agreed Mr. Bill ...

Grish just don't cut it for me. His volice is definitly a buzz kill to my ears. He can easily be replaced or new teams can be formed. I personaly thought we would have another anouncer switch with the draft earlier this year.

JM has been putting in work and senority alone should have had him in that spot. But this is the WWE were talking about here. Its not unlike them to overlook a guy like that for a "big wig" like Stanton.

See everybody! Not all WWE is praise worthy!! Lamo

Just a little bump in the road. And call me crazy, but I'm just a sucker for the buisness. Every aspect and every position in it. Shit, I remember when I first learned the term "gorilla position". I thought ... "kick ass sounding job!" and I always thought being an anouncer/interveiwer was so great just for the simple fact that your the direct contact with the superstars. Bringing them into the house and being able to be like "part of the family" ... J.R. was the shit @ doing that ...

And JM has been around for awhile as you all know, he's been around the greats and I'm sure he has learned and studied all he can. Plus he has the advantage of actually knowing the buisness and company as a whole. The history and all that ..

Its just so hard for me to watch a new guy come on strong, think he knows what he's talking about, then BAM!! One bad fact out of his mouth and its a wrap. Roll credits ...

That's where JM would shit on these guys ...

totally agree, promote matthews to smackdown, vince said it himself he isnt high on grisham and thats why cole is there for the play-by-play. Only thing I've seen from matthews is when bryan and cole had this thing on NXT and matthews called that bryan was right to be upset with all the things cole said, I was like'yeah way to have a personality mate, that already makes you better than todd. Demote grisham to NXT so only people who want to watch ladies run round the ring have to see him, it sounds fair to me, a bunch of losers listening to a loser, good return.

They don't really need this guy as long as matthews comes good so I would call harsh on vince for this move.

I like Josh Matthews, I really hope they move him up to Smackdown, replace him with Todd Grisham like you guys said. I'm not a big fan of Stanton, he sounds like he belongs in Fox News or Good Morning America. Better to just have Todd Grisham do backstage interviews completely.

I very much like Josh Matthews and I would hope that he is not trying in vain to accomplish something that he is never going to accomplish. By that I mean, that he has been trying to become an announcer for the longest time and has since made very little progress towards that. Meanwhile, Michael Cole has become the best commentator in the WWE and is seeing everything go his way.

Now, whilst I realise that the WWE have the right to choose whomever they want to do the commentary for their shows, I would have liked to have seen Josh Matthews get that opportunity and I just wonder how bad it makes him feel? However, when I think about that detail, I cannot help but think that he has something to do with him now attaining the role for himself. I mean, the WWE are a company just like anyone else and they need to be sure that they are getting the right man for the job when they set out to hire someone for a specific role. Now, Josh Matthews being in the company for the longest time, might have been the favourite to land it and perhaps fucked up the interview or display of ability and the WWE decision makers thought it would be in their best interests to get someone else who didn't.

Really, I have no idea but I would like to think that the WWE are just holding him back when I think he could be quite successful behind a commentary desk on a main WWE show. However, we know very little of what has transpired and as I have said, you never know if he is the one blame or not.

Scott Stanford has been a WWE worker for a long time and always in the commercials here in Canada promoting WWE and telling you where their next live event is in Canada. He also did commentary on Superstars 2 weeks ago with King. He was pretty good. His voice always annoyed me in commercials but I've learned to get used to it. Josh is a good guy and he can do his job very well behind that camera.

I agree. I turn on the tv one night and think "What is my local traffic guy doing there on the WWE commentary for Superstars Raw?" I mean, granted you have to have some talent to be able to call the play by play for WWE. But, this guy was more boring than Adamle, and I think I heard him call people by the wrong name in the short match that the only 1 match Raw had that night they were broadcasting from Wichita. (I remember because the Topeka show was being taped the next night.) Anyway, I think Grisham may turn out to be the next Cole, not heel, but in terms of talent, he's getting content and that can lead to not being in a good place with WWE. That shows in his performance as of late, and now that's why we're suffering with Cole on Friday night. I'd say move Grish back to interviewer, and get Cole back to Raw, and have Matthews do what he did best on ECW with Striker, those two were amazing, didn't they win a Slammy one year for best announce team? Anyways, Matthews is a real unbiased caller, Striker is empassioned and a great person for the true history, and gets into the matches because he's been a fan of the 'sport' since he was kid, almost to the point of being a mark, so Josh evens it out in terms of professionalism, and that is a great yin-yang combo. Who knows, with the way Smackdown is going, if you get those two as the team to call matches, that truly will be the legitimate A show after all. :) I got my fingers crossed for it.

I don't think Josh Matthews has what it takes to be a lead, play-by-play announcer. But I do think he would fit in well as part of a three person commentary team.

Though Josh Matthews and Mike Tenay have vastly different commentary styles, I think Matthews would benefit from being on a three person team in much the same way Tenay did in WCW.
