Went to See PiL Last Night

X

RIP Sgt. Michael Paranzino / RIP CM
PiL is Public Image Limited for those that don't know, the group that Johnny Rotten, the lead singer of the Sex Pistols, started after the Pistols broke up. They just reunited last year after like 20 years and this is their first time in the US in decades. HAD to go, and man, WHAT a fucking show. Lydon still has all of the energy and fury that he had 30 years ago, even my buddy who doesn't like that kind of music at all that I dragged along with me was into the show. Fucking brilliant from start to finish, I HIGHLY recommend you go see them if they're ever in your neck of the woods, SO worth it.

Very nice very nice. PiL was always better than the Pistol's in my opinion as they were... I dunno for lack of a better term 'real' and freer to experiment with their sound.

Absolutely Liger. As influential as the Sex Pistols were, I could name twenty better punk bands just from the same late 70s British scene alone. I've always preferred PiL as well, they really helped kickstart the post-punk movement, which is among my most favorite subgenres.

But oh man, the rendition of "This is Not a Love Song" they did was INSANE. Like, they opened the show with it and chills were just going up and down my spine, it sounded a thousand times better than the studio version ever did and became this fucking epic anthem. Absolutely AWESOME show, they closed with "Public Image" and "Rise" to my delight. They may have played an encore but I promised my friend I'd drive him back to his place, so we left after the show "officially" ended. Absolutely love that venue, Lupo's Heartbreak Hotel, not too big, not too small, great style and design and plenty of alcohol.

Yeah, just great show. Lydon's banter with some people in the crowd and the security guards was fucking awesome as well, had the whole place in stitches in between the great music.
