W.W.E.'s New Prince

To follow up on the story regarding Hollywood star Freddie Prinze Jr. joining the WWE creative team, Vince and Stephanie McMahon are hoping that it will open more doors to Hollywood. WWE would also love the chance to have access to Sarah Michelle Geller who is Freddie Prinze’s wife for an angle at some point.

Prinze Jr. is a huge WWE fan however he hasn’t necessarily have the historical knowledge to understand what has and has not been successful in the past.

He was introduced to everyone at last night’s WWE Raw and Saturday Night’s Main Event tapings. According to sources he impressed people in the company with all of his excitement and wiliness to contribute to the company.

Apparently Freddie Prince Jr. is joining the W.W.E. Creative team?? So they can have a more "Hollywood" feel? I mean, are they seriously doing this? An actor is now part of the creative team, merely for no other reason than he's an actor.

W.W.E. would love to get their hands on using Sarah Michelle Gellar because of who she is.. and it's all coming together after one of the announcers' made a comment about "Buffy" and the "Vampires" on Raw the other night.

I don't even know what to say other than this is just stupid. I understand that they want a Hollywood feel, and maybe hiring a director, which Freddie I believe has some knowledge in, could be okay.. however is this truly the direction you want to go in?

I think you'd almost be better off hiring a fan from the crowd who's been a life-long wrestling fan to help create storylines than allow an actor to come in and do something. Gosh, help me if Prince Jr. is behind Adamle. :lmao:

What are everyone's take on this breaking new development? What are your views and thoughts of a Hollywood Actor joining the Wrestling Creative Writing Team?! Please explain why you feel the way you do, and add plenty of detail. Thank You.

I don't see why this is a bad idea. He's got experience acting, writing and producing from what I'm aware of so that certainly helps the role he's been hired for, part of the Creative Team. Not only that but instead of hiring some other writer who may have experience but knows nothing about wrestling at all Freddie Prince Jr. is an avid WWE fan and so he's got knowledge of the product and is a fan of the product that he's now helping creatively.

I think it could work. He is a huge fan so he has extensive knowledge of the product. That combined with his acting experience, he could really help produce some interesting storylines. He knows how Hollywood works behind the scenes better than most of the creative team so he could bring all of that to the table. If he is behind the Adamle angle, I can already see the "hollywood" feel. Adamle as GM reminded me of the movie The Usual Suspects where the mastermind was right under everyone's nose.

Above all, I wouldn't mind seeing Sarah Michelle Gellar on WWE.

I really don't know. He's a fairly good actor, at least in his type of role. Don't know how he is as a writer though...hiring a celebrity sounds more like a WCW tactic to me. Let's just see how he does. Hey, odds are he'll do better than Russo.

Most people here think they could be on the creative team.. And I think a lot of us on here would do a mighty fine job.. Who's to say Freddie isn't a fan, just like us? If he is the reason for the Adamle story, then he is my new favorite writer. Give the guy a chance. He is an avid fan with, from what I've heard, a deep knowledge of the business. So, who knows. He could turn out to be crap, or he could be pure gold.

By all accounts that I have seen, Freddie Prinze Jr is a lifelong fan of the WWE. If his presence leads to better promo writing, wrestlers coming across better on TV (ie, with charisma, I'm looking at you, Lance Cade...) then I am all for it. They have had their share of "wrestling" writers on the creative team. Sometimes you need someone from a different area, with their own thoughts, their own unique perspective.

At frist I was a bit sceptical, but this actually seems like it might be a good move. Freddie has been watching wrestling all his life, and he has experience in writing and producing, so that's a plus. I think things could pick up with him on board. I've never been a big fan of his movies, but I'm sure he knows how to make entertaining television. His extensive knowledge of both Hollywood and professional wrestling seem to make him a perfect fit for the WWE Creative Team. He'll certainly do better than some straight out of college writers who don't know anything about wrestling (aka most of teh current writers). I think it's a good move.

When you add in the fact that Vince McMahon has been trying to make the WWE Superstars more diverse, ie, giving them their own films, etc, it makes even more sense to have someone in-house who can help these wrestlers learn about how Hollywood works. If Vince is serious getting WWE Films going, having someone "in the business" on his creative team can't hurt him.

I knew Fred was a wwe fan, but I couldn't imagine they'd hire him to be on the creative team. Now that he's on it, I hope he can have his lovely wife show up on tv once to show the divas how to act. You know that SMG acts better than all the wwe divas combined! I'm not going to say that wwe hiring Freddie was a bad idea before he even starts and I hope he does well and comes up with good ideas.

Lets see...a younger guy with hollywood experience that apparently has been a wwe follower for quite sometime.

So, he probably got so annoyed with the crap WWE has been the past couple years he decided he was going to do it himself because he knew he could get the job.

the hollywood experience means he knows storylines...good storylines.

sounds good to me.

innocent until proven guilty...a welcome change until proven a shitty choice.

A good move, cant make the storylines any worse. He's a wwe fan which helps. He'll be up to date with what has been going on, and probably have his own ideas already of what he wants to do.

It'll make it interesting to see how/if his input changes things. And if he'll be on screen much/at all.

All I can say is at least they got an actor that actually has an interest in the product and apparently has had it for quite a while. So at least that shows a level of knowledge, now all there's left to see is how well he can actually book a wrestling show. Alot of fans think they can do it, but I bet it's easier to say it than do, especially with Vince breathing down your neck. He'll have the support of the rest of the team I guess, and I wish him the best of luck.

I don't see how this could make things worse for WWE really. That's not to say that it's going to improve things a great deal, but it can't be harmful. At least Freddie is a long time WWE fan and is familiar with how WWE operates from the fans perspective (So he's already lightyears ahead of Adamle). Once he combines that with the behind the scenes operations, i think he'll become a valuable assett to WWE. Even if he doesn't contribute to the writing that much, he may be able to pass his acting experience on to some of the weaker speakers like Jeff Hardy.

It's interesting to see that he's going to work on Smackdown, because i feel that Smackdown is somewhat weaker when it relates to the storylines in comparison with Raw. The only real storyline they've had recently is La Familia and we've been able to tell how that was going to end up from day one. Maybe that's why they've hired him.

As long as we never see him on WWE TV, i think Freddie Prince Jr joining the fold could be nothing but beneficial for WWE

Well what's the point then. You might aswell get as much out of him as possible. Creatively I can't say much because i'm not sure how good he is. Lets just hope he's good.

But as far as using him on camera, something for SummerSlam or WrestleMania would be good because of the increased attention, as he is a star in Hollywood. Like it was said, they would be interested in using Sarah Michelle Gellar at some point, which would mean everyone in Hollywood would hear about it, and try to find out about it. Thus meaning, bigger ratings.
