I'm compiling a top 25 greatest wrestlemania matches ever and this is by far the hardest match to rank. Imo, it definitely is top 25 but I don't know where its rightful place is. Watching live was amazing and if it was the only memory I had of the match, I would even place it in the top 10. However, rewatching it, I don't think it was as good as it seemed at first. Is it better than say, Bret vs Owen? Or even lesser mentioned great Mania matches like say, Flair vs Savage? Discuss.

Hard for us to rank it without knowing what your current rankings are, otherwise its just like picking numbers out a barrel, it would mean nothing in your current ranking

I would say def top 5. Just because there was a point where you actually thought the streak was about to end. I don't think anyone thought that it was going to end that way. But when Triple H did Undertaker taunt and tombstoned him, I don't think a soul in the audience was sitting down. That was def the closest the streak has EVER come to breaking. And in the end, even though HHH lost, he was the only man to walk out on his feet. When have you ever seen Undertaker taken out of Wrestlemania on a stretcher? There was no Undertaker celebration, no posing while 19-0 flashed on the titantron. It showed that the Undertaker was seconds away from being 18-1 and that he gave absoultley EVERYTHING he had to keep the streak alive. Def one of the greatest wrestlemania moment ever. Not only did it make HHH look great but also made the Undertaker look even greater at Mania.

Difficult to rank it in comparisons to all wrestlemanias...wrestlemania is the big time ppv and this match won`t match with some of the greatest wrestlemania match. However, I would say it was a PPV saver tho.

I didn't fully think about it, but at first thought, it's not even Top 25 for me. The beginning was good and I liked the ending, but in between it was just laying around for some minutes -> HHH finisher -> Taker kickout -> repeat and always clear who the winner would be. Maybe it'd get the 25th spot or so, but it wasn't all that great in my opinion.

The undertaker vs triple h match up was more of an out of control brawl then anything else. .taker took a beating. .while its hard for me not to be biased since im a die hard undertaker fanatic whose followed his illustrious career i must admit that HHH certainly stole the show. .however i think the creative plans for that match was portray a "near death experiance" for takers streak, hence taker being carted out of the ring. .as for the match. .well lets just say that i read the results prior to watching the match and even i thought that the tombsone to taker was the end. .those few seconds alone kept the entire wwe universe in suspense im sure. .over all a good performance that should make it in your top 10. .again this is just my humble opinion

Taker vs HHH is severely underrated because it's stuck in the shadow of taker vs hbk. But the taker and hhh match told a great story and was a greta match. I say you should place it in the top 15.

I found Undertaker/HHH to be boring of the highest degree. The stipulation was just a cover to hide the fact that both men haven't wrestled in about a year and a half combined. Here are the matches even since WM 16 that I think were better:

Triangle Ladder Match
TLC II
Undertaker/HHH 1
Rock/Austin II
Angle/Benoit
Rock/Hogan
Angle/Lesnar
HBK/Jericho
Angle/Guerrero
Benoit/HHH/HBK
MITB I
Undertaker/Orton
Angle/HBK
Cena/HHH
Undertaker/Batista
Cena/HBK
JBL/Finlay (For what it was, it was great)
Undertaker/Edge
Undertaker/HBK I
Cena/Batista
Orton/Punk

That's 20 or 21 matches right there, and I have 3 or 4 on the fence such as WM 24 MITB, Rhodes/Mysterio, Punk/Mysterio, and HBK/Flair.

Considering the rest of the Wrestlemanias with Steamboat, Hogan, Savage, Hart, Warrior, and Andre, I probably wouldn't think about Undertaker/HHH until around 35 or 40 and there were great midcard matches as well so they may be around 50.

Top 10 without a doubt!! Told an awesome story great all the around!! I was thinking taker is gonna lose this one the streak is done!! As far in being the top 25 that be a fun list to create!! i would rank it in top 10 somewhere!! We all know the worst wm imo is 11 and the best is 17

I would have to say in terms of Wrestling not very high because it was more of a slugfest, but in terms of storytelling I would say the top 4-5 up there with HBK/Taker 2, HBK/Flair, Savage/Warrior, HOgan/Savage... I mean seriously think about it, the top two guys for the longest time square off and beat the living hell out of each other and then the whole stay down the streak is going to end much like Flair/HBK just to be swerved in the end is brilliant in my opinion because everyone knows that Taker wouldn't let that streak go to just anybody.

Realistically this match falls anywhere between #15 and #25.

Definitely not within the top 10... which are commonly listed here.

Then it all depends on how you rank matches such as Hogan vs Andre, which was not a good technical match, but was epically important.

I would personally rank it from 20-25- below matches like
Piper vs Hitman
HBK vs Jericho
Austin vs Rock - 17

The match was not epically important since Taker retained the streak, and it wasn't tecnically sound. Brawling doesn't really stir my tea. So I have it in the top 25, which isnt bad when you consider that there has been appx 250 + matches at WM.

Now i would love to see someone rank EVERY single match ever. What will be the 191 best WM match ??? Skinner vs Owen?

I didn't think it was a great match at all to be honest, like people have said it started to get really boring/predictable at the halfway point when it started to be finisher--kickout--rest--finisher--kickout--etc etc
I'll admit that HBK vs Taker is pretty much impossible to top and being in the shadow of it probably did play a role in people (including myself) thinking it wasn't a great match.
But even IF the match was before HBK vs Taker it wouldn't change the fact that I hated the 2nd half of the match, maybe I wouldn't be so hard on it but I'd still dislike it.

That being said the match shouldn't rank in the Top 25 at all, there are much better matches to choose from

It was God awful and so boring I almost fell asleep. It was like the Bret hart/Mcmahon match. A huge beat down match and you people think it's a top 5 or top 10 match? Give me a break. You knew the streak would continue and in no way shape or form did I think Taker was "close" to losing. Especially to Triple H. If he didn't lose to HBK no way in hell would he lose to him.

I get why they did it because Taker couldn't wrestle and was injured so it was the only way they could go, but still I found it very boring.

This thread punctuates one of my peeves with some fans. You completely ignore stuff that came before that was better. Their WM 27 was good, not great. It probably wouldn't make many top 20 WM match lists. Their match at WM 17 was better by miles. They could both move like they weren't cripple, they even wrestled a little bit instead of just doing spots for the NBC highlight show, and they had a legitimate feud going in, instead of "I wanna break you streak" interest in the match was higher at the time. And I will break out the blood argument, because it made their WM17 match much more dramatic.

I think it probably deserves to be in the Top 25 because it was a really good match and I honestly think that it serves to dispel the opinions that HHH is overrated, but I don't think it should be too high. A lot of matches like Piper v Hart or even Edge v Taker are so underrated, in my opinion, that everyone's list will be subjective. If I were making a list, I'd probably put only one Hogan match on the entire list, and I think a lot of people would call that insane. Where do you rank HBK v Angle or the Rock v Austin matches? It's hard to say without your existing list. Again, this match could make the top 25, but it probably shouldn't crack the top 20.
I think there are some matches that would probably make most everyone's top ten: Savage v Steamboat, the WM 10 Ladder match or the Bret v Owen match, the WM 17 TLC match, the WM 12 Iron Man match, etc. So, for the people who say that it's a top ten match, I have to ask if you really think that HHH v Undertaker at 27 was as good as those matches. It was a good match, sure, but it was the best match on a pretty disappointing show, and I think we remember it more for that fact alone. It saved WM 27 from being possibly the worst WM ever, but it's not a top ten match. It might make the top 25, I'd definitely give it a top 30 nod, but it was a good match, still. I'm glad a I saw it, but I'm still not as glad that I saw that one as I am at least 20 matches before it.

I don't get it, Triple H vs Undertaker last year was far from being the best match of any year.

The whole match was Undertaker getting his assed whopped by HHH, being carried by HHH only to end in the worst finish I ever seen in my life, a half assed choke out that HHH put himself in so Undertaker could win

One of the worst matches in history in my eyes and I was there personally for some of the best

--- if anything, it was the best match of WM 27 (and that's sayin alot considering it was the worst WM I ever seen)

HHH and Taker did beat the crap out of each other and it was nice to see a chair shot, but in the technical aspect it wasnt exactly the greatest match even though i did enjoy it and really didnt know if undertaker was gonna win. i think it was full of suspence and pretty much stole the show that night, but like the user "Little Jerry Lawler" points out there are a great number of matches i would put ahead of it. By far both of Taker vs. HBK matches at wrestlemania are something i wont forget for a long time

From an Undertaker stand point the match wasn't his best in Mania memory, for HHH it was thou, Mania 17's match was better and over-all their match was more hype than anything else at Mania 27

this isnt really top 25 in my book. top 50 sure, but its hard to rank this match while you got matches from the past 10 years like HBK vs Taker (1 and 2), Flair vs HBK, Taker vs HHH (WM17) SCSA vs The Rock (2 and 3) and countless others. Was it takers best wm match ever? No! not by a long shot, infact his matches agianst HBK both were amazing, his wm12 match against diesel had a much better storyline than this, vs hhh at wm17 had a great story and a great match was told. Was it HHH's best wm match? No! That would proberly go to his match with HBK and Benoit at WM20, and before that his match against taker at wm17. And so on.

Undertaker VS Triple H from Wrestlemania 27 was a good match. However, I don't know if it would rank in the top 25 matches of Wrestlemania. There have been 270 matches. That's a LOT of matches! To narrow it down to the 25 best would be very difficult, as there have been may good ones over the years. I think that Undertaker VS Trips last spring would rank among the top 40 or so, but not the top 25 because it isn't as good as people say. Sure it was BY FAR the best of the night, but it looks better than it should due to being part of one of the worst Wrestlemanias in history. One good match next to 7 awful ones is going to look a lot better than it will next to 7 good matches.
