Tri-Top: Julia Roberts

Mr. TM

Throwing a tantrum
America's Sweetheart. She has had a career in movies of 20 years, playing a wide array of characters. She can be the hot girl, or she can be the woman in control. She is also one of the most powerful persons in Hollywood, simply by her incredible acting skills. When has she shined the most? What are your three favourite movies with Julia Roberts?

Ocean's Eleven- I do love this movie, but I credit the greatness of this celeb packed film to two people. Matt Damon and Julia Roberts. Pretty good work considering the movie also has Brad Pitt (make sure to check out his and Matt Damon's Tri-Top) and George Clooney in it.

Runaway Bride- She starred along side Richard Gere in this movie, and despite the fact it had a targeted audience in which I am not a member of, I must say it was one great movie. Her playing the sweetheart in this movie truly made me believe and listen in on her story.

Pretty Woman- One hell of a role. She is able to play the role of an escort with the heart of gold. I really think this was her biggest breakthrough, and people will point to this movie for the great role that it was.

Sorry TM, I can't really help you here, as I hate this woman with a passion. The only movie that she starred in that I really like was Closer, and this is because of the performances given by Clive Owen and Natalie Portman. If I was forced to watch another two movies with her in them, I would go with Pretty Woman and Runaway Bride; I really like Richard Gere for some inexplicable reason.

I like Julia Roberts alot. But when looking at her past movies it left me wondering why? I haven't really liked many of her movies, so it must just be her personality or something. As for my 3 favorite movies with Roberts in it they would be:

1. Erin Brockovich: Although this is a perdicatable choice since it won her the Oscar, I personally loved the movie and her performance. She played the role well, and the movie itself was very entertaining. It's one of the few roles that Julia played someone less glamourous and I just really loved her character(which is a real life person).

2. Pretty Woman: Loved that movie, and Julia's performance. This was her star making role, which got everyone to fall in love with her. Julia's personality and charm shines through. She really stole the movie as "the hooker with the heart of gold" and even recieved an Oscar nomination for Best Actress.

3. Steel Magnolias: This is quite old and was released the year before I was born(1989)and I didn't actually watch it until a few years ago. This is the first movie that got Julia national recognization. I thought she did a brilliant job playing Shelby, and she worked very well with McLaine, Dukakis, and Field. This role got Julia, her first Oscar nomination and while it's not known to many like Brockovich and Pretty Woman it was a great movie, and really helped Julia become the future "America's Sweetheart".

3. Erin Brockovich - Overrated, but still good and manages to get on my list. She was good in the film, but definitely not Oscar worthy. But still a good film as far as I'm concerned.

2. Ocean's Eleven - Really good movie, but not because of her performance, though she was decent in it. However, still, I must say that any woman could've pulled off her role. But it's still a movie I really like she was apart of. Can't say that for most of her films to be honest.

1. Hook - Call me gay or whatever, lol, but this was one of my favorite movies when I was a kid. I haven't watched it in a very long while, but I'm sure it would still hold up to this day. But yeah.. this is by far my fondest movie Julia Roberts has been apart of. She was fucking adorable as Tinkerbell as I remember it. Fuck the Razzies.

Only honorable mention is Pretty Woman, though it would've been MUCH better if someone other than Richard Gere was the leading man. He's such a no-talent hack. Michael Douglas or Tom Cruise would've made this movie ten times better then what it was if either one of them starred in it.

I'm not a huge fan of Julia's work, but there are a fair amount of movies that I have liked her in. She sort of falls in to the same category as Pitt, and that's that they both need a stellar supporting cast to put on their best work.

Closer is far and away my favorite Julia Roberts movie. It's got a great story, and the 4 main characters all have great chemistry. The acting is terrific, the script is well written, and I actually found myself laughing at parts that weren't supposed to be funny. Some of the arguments the couples had, were arguments I've had in real life. Such as:

"How does he taste?"
"Like you. Only sweeter."
"There you go. That's the spirit. Now fuck off and die you lousy ****e."

Ocean's 12 is another movie that I liked her in. Tess has her biggest role in this movie, and she plays 2 characters, even if one of them is herself. The movie itself may not have been as good as the first one, but I think the cast did a better job here, if that makes any sense at all.

The third movie I'll last as a "top" for her, is Conspiracy Theory. I think she was clearly the best actor in this movie, and she definitely sold the role to me. After re-watching the movie, I don't see anyone else in that role working.
