Top Gear

I just did a search and was shocked to discover that this great show does not have its own thread.

I mean Top Gear is awesome and I dont know shit about cars :) But they still manage to find a way to make it entertaining enough for me to watch regularly. It is huge in Australia, so much so that the are creating an Australian version (Which will suck IMHO).

It is informative and more imprtantly hilarious, in this weeks episode they had to spend their own money on older British cars and they competed in a series of events to try to win their money back. It ended with with the cars being filled with water and racing around the track. Great Stuff.

The chemistry shown between the three hosts is amazing and the way they play off each other is another great reason to watch.

So lets talk about Top Gear, who loves it, who hates it and what is your favourite segment ever? :)

You guys are on the previous seaosn to us. I remember the British Leyland episode, that was brilliant. They visited the demolished Longbridge plant, which is very near where I live, and it was something of a sad moment, especially for people who's family members had worked at Longbridge Rover before it was closed down. That was an awesome episode. Clarkson's door falling off about 3 seconds into the water trial was hilarious.

TG is a hell of a show, mainly because of the great chemistry between the three hosts. However, let's face facts, the main reason for it's success is the simple, brutal hilarity of one Jeremy Clarkson. He's the funniest man in British media for my money, and possibly the funniest man in Britain full stop. He plays off of James May's pompousness brilliantly, and his chemistry with Richard Hammond is fantastic. They're a great comedy duo, playing off of each other brilliantly.

As for my favourite moment in the show's history... it's got to be the Bugatti Veyron vs. James May's plane. In which, of course, Jeremy Clarkson drove a Bugatti Veyron, the fastest production car in existance, racing against James May and Richard Hammond in a small place owned and flown by May. They raced from somewhere in Italy to the top of the Natwest building in London. James and Hammond charged in, convinced they'd won - to find Jeremy happily sitting in a chair drinking champagne. May hollering "you insufferable man!" and Jeremy just laughing is always a classic, although Jeremy's reference to them as "Captain Captain Slow and his Hammond Hand Luggage" is a great moment too.

Top Gears great, I like cars but the car reviews are the most boring part of the show, its all about the presenters therye all funny as hell.

I do like when people complain about the show though, because they just dont realize that Jeremy Clarkson especially just doesnt care, say what you want he doesnt care.

My favourite segment ever would be the all day race in the deisel car, I am not sure if youve seen that one yet so I wont give to much away, but being a top gear fan, you'll love it.

This week on Top Gear we saw Jeremy and James driving really old cars to answer the question about the first car to have the pedals in the spots they are today.
I admit I only saw a little bit of it cause I was cooking dinner but the little bits I did see were pretty good.

Also in this episode Hammond eventually drove two laps in an F1 but first he had to drive the littler versions of the car. Not quite as funny but it was very interesting to watch and I guess gave me a little more of an idea of the forces and stresses placed on F1 drivers and just how hard and how much skill is involved in professional driving.

Here is a clip of some bloopers from Top Gear I found on the tube.

Personally, I just do not care for this show. But that's probably because the only thing I notice about cars is if they look nice. I'm a typical girl when it comes to cars. However, the show itself is not bad. I've watched it a couple oftimes, and they find ways to entertain without it being all about the car and all the technical stuff surrounding that.

It's a great mix of details about cars, as well as just pure entertainment. It's a good show just due to the wide audience it can create, when usually specialist shows usually only reach out to a certain amount of people.

If all you like about cars is that they look nice, this is the show for you. This stopped being a car show years ago. Or so I'm told, as I only tune in to watch it when they turn cars into a rockets and get shot at by hillbillies and all that other crazy shit. I'm not saying car shows are dull - I've actually quite liked Fifth Gear when I've accidentally got onto it while channel surfing - but I just don't get the interest in cars personally.

It's pretty funny, yeah, but I've noticed more and more how scripted it is lately. Never got how I missed that.
