Mac Attack

I'm neat.
P-Mod Edit: Im going to ban everyone who doesn't vote for America, just so you know

I’ve been working on a new series and I have finally finished up so here it is. I have decided that the next Cigar Lounge Series will be debating what country is the better country. For the first debate I have decided to start the first debate on the United States of America versus the United Kingdom. You can decided on what country is better based on whatever criteria you feel like however I will give some background information on some of the vocal points of the country.

United States Information (According to CIA World Factbook)

The United States has a GDP per person of $47,440 which is seeing a national growth of 2.7% each year on average. The United States currently has a 9.3% unemployment which in comparison to other world countries is actually pretty good. Approximately 12% of the United States is below the poverty line. The United States of America is about 13.98 trillion dollars in debt which is quite high. The current government of the United States is a democracy which is the standard amongst the world. The United States of America is possibly regarded as one of the greatest countries in the world and has really been a leader amongst the world. The United States generally gives the most funds to organizations like the United Nations. Also they give a good amount of funds to charitable funds. The United States was once a colony and has broken off from the reign of the Queen , now it is their time to see who was ultimately the better country.

The United Kingdom (According to the World Factbook)

The United Kingdom has a purchasing power parity of 2,189 trillion dollars. Their GDP is currently continuing to rise at a 1.6% rate. The GDP per capita is $35,100 (U.S dollars.) Great Britain is also a democracy and also has a solid economy. Great Britain only has a 7.9% employment rate and has 14% of its economy under the poverty line. The United Kingdom also has influences in organizations such as the United Nations. Great Britain is regarded as a pioneer country and also is a country to have started the Industrial Revolution. Great Britain has been well liked and has had several colonies in the past such as the United States and India. Great Britain also has a figurehead in the Queen and has many influences on the world market. Great Britain lost its influence in United States, but now we will see who the greater country is.

The way you've spun the OP and the fact that 80% of the board are Americans would tell you that this is a silly idea for a thread let alone a series.

The USA broke out from rule under King George III not "The Queen." Democracy is the western standard being founded primarily in Athens and UK wise it dates back to the 13th century as being used in the UK, so again another spin there. A 7.9% employment rate? Don't be so fucking stupid.

Two British posters walk into a thread and declare it's stupidity.... I forgot the punchline.

Why not try debating your points instead of making fun of the OP? Just a thought.

Would you guys rather have another Christianity thread, I'm sure you have refreshing views you'd like to bring to the table that haven't been rehashed a thousand times over.

America is better, because our posters don't try and cut down others for trying to bring something new to the table. Don't like the thread, don't post in it, pretty damn simple.

...and this thread does belong here, Loveless, so no need to play mod, or I'll decide to play mod too.

England 51.8 million, Scotland 5.2 million, Wales 3.0 million & Northern Ireland 1.8 million. Total population of the UK 61.8 million. Throw into this that each country has it's own identity, strengths, weaknesses and politics (for example Irish nationalists do not regard themselves as being part of the UK and many Welsh and Scottish also hate any association with England).

USA population 307 million. Quite possibly the most patriotic country in the world.

Dude, I had more chance of getting Finlay past Kurt Angle in the WrestleZone Tournament this year!

In fact, despite being proud of being from Northern Ireland and embracing both my British and Irish legacy, I'd have to give the edge to the States for their togetherness. A country's strength is, after all, in it's inhabitants.

I voted for the US... because I'm American.. who was I suppose to vote for? but yeah... no real reason except I'm American and would like most vote for my country over any others.

Americans will prefer their country, Britons will prefer theirs. However, I think Americans and Britons can be united in one belief: both of their countries are better than Mexico North, Macios's country.

Don't worry Tdigle I'm creating one for Canada as well.

As for my own personal opinion on the situation I would actually say United Kingdom is the greater country. Not because of economic success but because of the overall popular opinion on the United Kingdom. If you travel around the world, which I do quite often you find that people would rather talk to a British person then an American. Americans aren't really accepted all around the world however I truly feel that the Brits get better reception and for that reason i went with United Kingdom.

you can't really have a post like this because there are many many americans (including myself) who have never been to/lived in the U.K. so for anyone to try to give an answer without experiencing both is just ignorant. i would love to live outside of london or manchester to see if i like it better than living here outside of d.c. ofcourse im bias to american baseball, but the e.p.l has deff jumped american football and college sports in my ranking as fav sports..and you cant say american posters dont try to attack the o.p b/c i know a lot of f-ing idiots on these forums who do shoot their mouth off at someone else's opinions.

***something to think about...look at the greatest rock n roll bands of all time...almost all of the top 10 are from the u.k...well done to our brothers across the pond!!

I'm American, and I voted for the United Kingdom. The fact of the matter is that they beat us in most important categories.

They have less carbon emissions. They're healthier. Their money is worth more. Less violence. Less criminals. Less religion (though, I'm glad we have a separation of church and state). The fact is that they are in better shape then we currently are.

Love my country, but the truth is the truth.

I voted for The United Kingdom. A country shouldn't be judged on it's money, being bigger, or things like that, unless the differences are incredible.
I voted UK because of Universal Healthcare. The United States lets people die simply because they can't afford healthcare. Thousands of people.
That's enough to sway the balance for me. UK doesn't do that. You get it through taxes, and it's available to everyone.

Oh and Americans are fatter, and don't live as long on average. I don't know much about the politics, but I do know that their military budget isn't bloated to encompass the entire world under it's power. So yeah....

I am American btw. :p

In agreement with Xemnas in regards to healthcare. I'd never vote for the US as the 'greater' country when your healthcare policy basically stems down to 'Too poor to pay? Well then, we don't need you, go die'. Exaggerated? Maybe. But there are too many stories both in the news and from American people on this very board where they've been refused healthcare, or have put off going to see a doctor over a potentially serious illness because they can't afford the medical bills.

Also there is way too much debate over stupid things by stupid people in America. The pro-life, anti-gay marriage movements are ridiculous, and there's a main political party who agrees abortion should be illegal and gays shouldn't be allowed to marry. We have minorities in England who believe these things, but mostly it isn't an issue, as it shouldn't be. The UK is much more forward thinking on these issues, as a whole.

As for everything else, I don't care. I love England, but having holidayed in the US I also love it there. Both countries are having trouble financially, and they're actually very similar. The US is bigger, with a much larger population, so it will always be seen as a more powerful nation, which is true. But they could maybe do with taking a few pointers from the UK in terms of healthcare.
