Top 5-10 Occupations

To build a society around. Try to think of your top ten. This is a common assignment for any Sociology class and I am interested to see what you have to see, which place you put certain jobs and why.

1.) Agricultural Workers: A society can not live without food. Agricultural workers are able to feed a society.

2.) Police force: Crime and curruption needs to be prevented, and that is what a police force can do.

3.) Judicial system (Judges): The police force needs a check, and the Judges hold up law.

4.) Doctors: Doctors are able to cure illness and ailments that help a society's popluation to remain healthy

5.) Educators: Early education is extremely important for the bases for a society to improve itself.

I will try and think of the last 5 occupations to formulate a top 10 list.

My list is:

1) Police Officers, Cops, etc. : They prevent crime, enforce laws, and without them, this country would have everyone shooting each other (Anarchy).

2) Educators, Teachers, Professors, etc. : We all need to learn, children need to go to school to become anything on anyone's list of best jobs, and they are seriously underpaid.

3) Fire Department, Firefighters : They.... well... put out fires. They save lives and a lot of them are willing to risk themselves to save others.

4) Judges : Enforce laws, give decisions based on laws, common sense, and history, and often have to deal with murderers and rapists.

5) Human Resources: These people do benefits, they do performance appraisals, rewards, and recruiting.

6) Doctors: Of course. They cure people's illnesses, and make sure everyone is healthy.

7) Janitors: Come on. I still go to (high) school, unlike most people here, but I'm sure most people can agree with me when I say that students try to avoid bathrooms because they are so filthy, even the sinks and doors. They have to clean up disgusting things that no one else would do.

8) Garbage Men/ Sanitation Workers: See above.

9) Farmers: Most of our food comes from them. They plant things for a living, and do work slaves did in the 19th century. They deserve to be somewhere on this list.

10) President: Well... They do a lot of work. They do a lot for the country, either good or bad. Serve as commander in chief, and appoints some other office members. Reason this isn't #1 is because they get paid more than most on this list combined (maybe not judges.)
