Top 20 Women in WWE/F: Mic Skills

WWE.IS.AWESOME

Future Women's Champion
Okay well awhile back, I made a "Top 20 Overall Divas" thread. Now I'm going to keep making these Top 20 threads, but I'm breaking them down into catagories. This catagory, is mic skills.

Plenty have women have stepped into the WWE/F ring with a mic in their hand, but which ones were truly considered the best?

Who were your Top 20 Women in WWE/F that could honestly work the mic?

What Women had you listening intently to every word?

What Women could make you boo/cheer for them by just saying a few words?

I will post my list up later, but now I want to here yours!

To be honest, there hasn't been that many women who impressed me with their mic skills, but one who does stand out to me was IVORY, especially when she was playing the stuck up prim-and-proper character in the Right To Censor faction, god she pissed me off with her voice at that time! She was great in that role though!

The only person who immediately springs to mind for me is Vickie Guerrero. Not sure that I could even name 20 who I've not been able to take my ears off to be honest. Vickie has always made me listen though, and even if it is just because of how annoying she is, she seems to get more heat than most other people on Smackdown at the moment

I think 20 divas is a little much. WWE doesn't care enough about the divas to develop very many of them into characters worth investing in. I can however name a few that come to mind.

Sunny - from her early days in WWF/E when she came in with Chris Candido and they were fitness buffs she played the "stuck up bitch" character pretty well. She was decent as a face, but it was hard not to pay attention to someone so fricken hot.

Sensational Sherri - Sherri was a diva before the word diva was even coined. In WWF/E she mostly played a heel, and she could draw heat pretty well and cut promos with the best of them. For Sherri it wasn't a matter of hanging on every word, but much like Vickie Guerrero, she could draw instant heat in her interviews. Her work as manager of "King" Savage was gold, and the fans hated Savage all that much more because of her.

LayCool - Individually Michelle McCool and Layla weren't anything special, but something about the chemistry and comedic timing that they have make them as entertaining as any divas in recent history. Sure it's not always funny like the "piggy James" stuff, but they certainly do their jobs to draw heat from the WWE Universe. They wouldn't have been co-titleholders for so long if they weren't doing things right.

Vickie Guerrero - Two words: "Excuse me!!" Just the sheer fact that sometimes the fans don't even let her speak like when she was trying to cut a promo against Cena on Raw. That is heat that male wrestlers such as Drew McIntyre could only hope to one day draw.

Last but not least,
Stephanie McMahon - She is the only one who's words had just as much meaning as the delivery of those words. Especially in the McMahon/Helmsley Era, she made you believe that she had absolute power to make you do what she wanted. You wanted to know what she was going to say and how it was going to affect the rest of the show. She had an ear-piercing shriek and she put it to good use.

it would be ridiculous for someone to put any woman on this list ahead of vickie guerrero. Vickie arguably gets more heat than any one else in the WWE (if you dont believe me look at the segment where Cena and Jerry Lawler "roasted" her on RAW) and has consistently been doing so for years now, without a real gimmick.

she has to be the best heel female on the mic of the pg era by far and the only person who rivals her for all-time female hate is stephanie mcmahon, she was the original 'vickie' who was able to float into absolute heel-dom without a real gimmick, just using her mic skills to get those thunderous boos

Yeah I doubt I can come up with 20 women in the entire history of wrestling that I give a shit about but I will comment on who I think are the best in the WWE's history on the stick.

Stephanie McMahon is the true Queen of the WWE, she grew up taking it all in and when given the chance to run with ball she scored big time! Whether as a heel or a face Stephs character has always been entertaining to me.

Vickie Guerrero is one of the most over heels in the history of wrestling, PERIOD. I don't think anyone knew or suspected she had this in her but damn I am glad it was discovered. I miss Eddie every time I watch wrestling but it is good to know that Vickie is keeping the Guerrero name alive!

Sherri Martel was really ahead of her time when it comes to everything related to the modern WWE Diva. If she were to be around in her prime right now she would be able to fit right in and rule the current Divas Division.

LayCool are so annoying and irritating and thats what makes them awesome, because that is the reaction they are supposed to get out of us! At first I couldn't stand them but they have grown on me, and I honestly enjoy their promos now, there matches still not so much.

Ivory as someone else already mentioned was fantastic when she was a part of RTC, utterly forgettable with any other character she portrayed but that goes for most of the other Divas when it comes to mic skills as well.

Sunny or Tammy Sytch who is often referred to as the original Diva for some reason was decent but I think she is remembered more fondly than she should be.

Now I could list about 100 WWE Divas that I thought were smokin hot and would want to have hot crazy sex with but as far as mic skills go those are the only ones I would list as being great, good, or even decent. Mickie, Trish, Lita, Chyna and others may have been great in the ring but on the mic most of them just pretty much sucked.

A top 20 is extremely difficult to come up with because women are rarely given a lot of mic time (in any promotion). Instead, I'll give my top 10.

1) Sensational Sherri - One of the few women who actually got decent mic time and she cut better promos than most of the guys on the roster wherever she was (WWF or WCW)
2) Stephanie McMahon - Maybe not so much now, but back in 1999-2001 she was pretty good.
3) Sable - Her rivalry with Luna Vachon was one of my favorite rivalries between women. I still remember her "You get your ass back here, you little bitch" line from 1998
4) LayCool (well, Layla, anyways) - I enjoy Layla's promos more than Cena's
5) Vickie Guerrero - Very few people, male or female, can elicit such a response from the crowd just by saying two words.
6) Lillian Garcia - She WAS a ring announcer for many years... that has to count for something
7) Ivory - As already mentioned, when she joined Right to Censor, her promos made you hate her.
8) Jillian Hall - Like Vickie Guerrero, she could get a very negative reaction from the crowd just by singing two notes
9) Mae Young - To be honest, I keeled over laughing whenever she spoke back in the early 2000's. When she said "where are you taking me" when Bubba Dudley pushed her around in her wheelchair was priceless.
10) Miss Elizabeth - In the WWF, she rarely spoke, but when she did, people listened.

I don't think I can think of 20 that I was impressed with on the mic... So naming them would be pointless... However I will give you my top 5...

1. Stephanie McMahon - She started off a little rough, after being thrust into WWF storylines with her "love story" involving Test/HHH and being "kidnapped" by The Undertaker and his ministry. But as The McMahon-Helmsley Era made it's way onto the screen. She started to get extremely better. When she became the GM of SmackDown, her skills were truly on display and she showcased what I would consider the best mic skills by a Diva or female in WWF/E HISTORY.

2. Ivory - Just great on the mic. She was a solid wrestler as well. Pretty underrated if you ask me. I rate her ahead of Vickie Guerrero because first and foremost, she was a wrestler. Her time in Right To Censor was a true display of her talent. She was so nastily over that she beat Chyna numerous times. Sure there was the angle of Chyna having a neck injury. But Chyna was holding her own against guys like Chris Jericho and Bob Holly. For Ivory to get wins over her was surprisingly great. She had heat like no other females really get.

3. Vickie Guerrero - She is the true definition of a Heel Diva. No matter what she does, she is booed. She gets so much heat, you would never guess she was the widow of the beloved Eddie Guerrero. Anyone that would ever be paired with her will automatically receive heat and anyone that opposes her will be cheered. Her line of "EXCUSE ME" truly brings a reaction rivaling the "What" and "Woooo!".

4. Sherri Martel - Sherri was great at what she did. First it was being the Women's Champion. But her move to manager was epic. A typical female valet she was not. She would almost always put her body on the line for her "man". Whether it was Randy Savage, Ted Dibiase, Shawn Michaels, or anyone else, she would be in the ring standing toe to toe at one point with her "man's" opponent. She would screech at her target and lure him into situations where they would leave their backs up to Sherri's "man". She was also not afraid to use her sex appeal.

5. Michelle McCool - One of the best out there today for the Divas. She makes up for Layla's lack of ability on the mic. I noticed some posts before me listed Layla as a top Diva on the mic. I disagree with that. I think the only reason she would even be considered "okay" on the mic is because of McCool. I think she makes Layla look good. She has more than an ability to talk. She cuts great PROMOS. She seems like a throw back to when Diva's were great in ring talents. But also is a great entertainer and gets her point across with ease.

Okay so here's my list. Only the first couple I can make a case for and the last part of my list are people who were decent but could've been better. As others have said, it was quite hard to find 20 women that could talk.

1. Stephanie McMahon: She was gold on the mic! As a heel, she could easily get booed out of the building.

2. Vickie Guerrerro: Need I explain? Have you ever seen this woman get on the mic? You can barely hear her that's how loud the crowd is booing.

3. Ivory: Many other posters have already told you about how Ivory was.

4. Sensational Sherri: She was, well......evil. I'm not sure how else to explain it.

5. Lay-Cool: They are so annoying and irritating that it makes me love them. They play their roles perfectly.

6. Mickie James: I'm not talking about the happy-go-lucky Mickie we saw towards the end of her career. I'm talking about the sychotic Mickie who stalked Trish Stratus. She was great then.

7. Lita: As a heel, she was pretty good at drawing some heat. Isn't the best women on the mic but certainly isn't the worst.

8. Trish Stratus: Ehhh. She was good at times.

9. Molly Holly

10. Sunny

11. Maryse

12. Mae Young

13. Melina

14. Jillian Hall

15. Sable

16. Victoria

17. Chyna

18. Nikki Bella (She is getting better, at least  )

19. Maria (She was good at acting ditzy....or was it acting?)

20. Terri (I just threw her on here because I couldn't think of a 20)

Like many other posters - I think 20 is definitely pushing it, so I'll go for any that I found memorable.

Maria - the ditsy act was fantastically done and when it began to incorporate the moments of sublime knowledge... this was probably the best backstage segments at that time.

Vickie and Stephanie - both ladies memorable for being so completely loud, high pitched and irritating; great heels!

Sunny - so beautiful and so obnoxious, great character.

Sherri - I think her look really helped get over her interview style.

I posted the first reply on here where I mentioned Ivory as one of the best. I am really shocked at myself that Stephanie McMahon was not the first name that sprang to mind.

While she has changed over the years into a less annoying character..and become alot hotter too...in her earlier days on TV as part of the McMahon-Helmsley regime with Triple H, her winy voice made me DESPISE her. She was an effortless heel at that time, and got unbelievable heat along with her husband, who was the number 1 male heel in the company at that point. Steph was perfect in the role of the spoilt bitch who always got her way.

To be able to comfortably pull of the SD General Manager role later on shows just how strong her mic skills were, as she never looked out of her depth in such a high profile position, which required her to talk on camera or live in the ring for long periods of time. She is definately worthy of a spot in the top three, possibly even first, just ahead of Vickie Guerrero (who has developed into a fantastic heel character), and Ivory.

I think my top 3 would look

1. Stephanie McMahon
2. Vickie Guerrero
3. Ivory

Also, I think Terri Runnels was pretty solid on the mic too, especially in her feud with The Kat/Miss Kitty, as well as the obvious two in Trish and Lita

There just has never been enough time invested in many of the other divas to make a list of 20 in my opinion
