TNA Interactive PPV?

Finally. Colin has come back...

TNA sent out a mobile text alert to their subscribers yesterday claiming they'll be doing a "fully interactive PPV" later this year. I'd assume it will be similar to WWE's Cyber Sunday.

So, not content with having a roster built on former WWE guys, TNA Wrestling is now doing Cyber Sunday, apparently. The question is - is this a good move?

To be fair, TNA is reliant on the fans, they're the guys that really get into TNA and keep it alive, and this PPV could be a sort of resurrection for the old TNA. Think about it, the X-Division could be pushed back into the limelight, purely because that's what the fans want. Provided they don't do a WWE and give options like

What do you want for the TNA World Title match?

1) Verbal Debate

2) Pie Eating

3) 6 Sides Of Steel

then this PPV could be a great move. TNA could actually show WWE how to do this kind of event. The WWE one, the only match where you actually had to think about what to vote for was Umaga/Triple H. TNA could actually give the fans a choice, give them complete control rather than say "yeah, we'll let them vote, but only give them 1 option worth voting for" and pull off a success.

On the other hand, they could pull a WWE, or even worse, a WCW. I mean come on, they have Vince Russo booking. We'll probably have a "which X Division wrestler's mother should be on a forklift at ringside?" match. The fact with one of these PPV's is, the choice might be with the fans, but ultimatly it rests on the booking in the first place. So, will the event be a success, or will TNA's booking let them down in the first place before the fans even touch it?

Well, I saw a video on TNA's website that was entitled "Cross the Line." All it said below it was that details were coming soon. I have a feeling that this will be tied in somehow with the interactive PPV.

Hopefully TNA will pull this off, and not just have it appear as a cheap WWE rip-off, as there are too many situations like that already in the company. My only concern is that I don't think TNA has a broad enough fan base to accomplish this. Sure, they have TNA Mobile and all that, but I really don't think they are registered enough with the casual fan to do so.

Perhaps it will work, and will give TNA some momentum. One thing that could be awesome is if they could tie it into the World X Cup, with fans voting on which team faces which, or something along those lines...

wow so lets check what tna have stolen now from wwe

former wwe stars (rejects)
the mix between kane and mankind gimmick
copying stone cold gimmick
now a cyber sunday kind of show

people say ecw should be renamed ecwwe

how about changing tna name to tnawannabewwe

tna are just sad and even wcw in its final days had better hopes than tna have

This is why I cannot fully support TNA like I do WWE because they do this kind of crap. Why? is my only question if they want to be different from WWE then they should do different things but they are not. Here's my new slogan for them,TNA where we rip off WWE any chance we get!

You actually want to contribute something to anyone? See, people like this are the reasons why I don't post in the wrestling forums. This thread was created for DISCUSSION, not just mouthing off about your own opinions, which have no basis whatsoever. You weren't on topic, you didn't even mention it at all, you just dove in and started bashing TNA.

I'd like to thank the people who have contributed in some way at least. Anyway, to go onto topic:

The question which has been raised (by myself and others) is wether TNA can actually handle this concept. But, this is the main point that I saw and had to comment on (see the bold section):

This is a hell of a point. Do TNA actually have the fan base to accomplish this? The voting figures could be astronomically poor, which would simply cause TNA another blow. And the sad thing is, jack-offs like ianfromlondon (no wonder he's a moron if he's a Londoner) will probably vote anyway, and they know they will, and that's just hypocritical. Anyway, the TNA fan base is a little too small, i that if a group got together and tried to ruin the vote, then they might accomplish it. Whereas, Cyber Sunday itself was too big to be ruined - hard as we tried :)

well actually i think that if u can vote on the site (wich u will be able to no doubt) it could have a lot of votes, like tna today on youtube has many hits, and so does the site, TNA is pretty big around the internet and all that.. maybe with some luck many ppl go vote on their site who knows, i think they could pull off a decent number at least..

but i think the main problem is, like colamaina mentioned, the booking.. they can either give the fans some great choices for contenders and stuff, especially for the x division, and let us choose many matches like ultimate x or king of the mountain, that would be pretty crazy... or they could just let us choose what color is abyss' mask going to be O.o

I agree with Cola, except for the bit about Londoner's being stupid. Goes to show how smart he is, huh?

Anyway, they could go all out and make it great. I'd love it if the fans got to vote in wrestlers from the indies to face TNA favourites, and stuff like that. I believe that's how Austin Aries entire existence in TNA came about, in one way or another. They could also have match types, but ones that are hard to pick from. However, I believe that could be hard to organize. For example, wouldn't it be difficult to try and hold a Six Sides of Steel, an Ultimate X and, say, a Barbed Wire Massacre on the same night? Not even on the same night, but to have to be prepared to set them all up quickly.

At this point I'll just regurgitate already said comments in saying that if it's not Cyber Sunday it could be great, but if it is it could be atrocious.

All I know is this - I'd vote for another off-the-scale blindfold match.

It'd work out great if they did it right. What I think they should do to is have two rounds of voting. For example, the first round could be a "Who should face who?" You could choose anyone on the roster to face anyone else. Then, once you have your card, you move on to the next stage. In round two, you get to choose the type of matches. Mr Sam pointed out that it'd be tough to set up a cage match, Ultimate X, and a Barbed-Wire Massacre match in one night, therefore you limit the choice of matches.

It's a good idea so why not steal it? Anyway WCW did it foirst I believe. And TNA did it several years ago when fans voted for Austin Aries to face Chris Daniels. TNA PPV's always look very similar, so this would certainly make the show stand out. I hope they replace Lockdown with it, but I doubt it.

TNA fans are very vocal, some are pretty hardcore. So unless the options are stupid this could give some wrestlers a valuable push.

Im really undecied on this, if its even true I mean I read the bits of interview from Paul Heyman in The Sun on the main page earlier and hes dead right the one thing TNA dont have is a brand and by doing this PPV they are doing what they always do steal ideas from elsewhere. On the other hand though this could work, if done right, if the booking is decent and the questions asked are decent which I wouldnt get hopes up about because Russo is booker, but this definatly has the potential to be good, I just think TNA might need to multiply the voting figures a bit to make it look like they have a large fan base more than they do, or this could turn into a big blow to TNA.

I think this shows that tna can not come up with their own ideas to compete with the wwe. 1st the abyass thing second the sharkboy gimmick now this Interactive ppv. its a good idea dont get me wrong i think the tna creative team should start making fresh ideas ......................... I mean whats next the shaving of head matches or better yet another white rapper gimmick .

It's not like WWE invented interactive matchmaking. WCW did fan voting for matches before. There was one Nitro where Sting was selected for a title shot and got attacked by Goldberg during his entrance. I also believe that they did some interactive voting on WCW Saturday Night.

Head shaving was also not something that Vince MacMahon invented. There have been several hair vs hair in history (or even hair vs mask in lucha libre).
