Welcome to My (And Not Sly's) House
This was one of if not the hottest feuds in all of wrestling in the late 80s to early 90s, so why not try it again here? Perhaps the greatest big man/little man rivalry ever.

Introducing first, we have the biggest WCW face pre, and perhaps post and during-Hogan. From the same town, a similar look, and similar promos, this man was WCW's Hogan, although simply better in the ring. He can rival RVD for leaping abilities and put on some of the all time classics with Flair and many others including his opponent as well as the Great Muta. Now he is on top in TNA and is easily their biggest name. From Venice Beach, California, this is STING!

His opponent is one of the most versatile big men of all time. He could come off the top rope, beat people within an inch of their lives, and could fight with anyone. He won the WCW title and was dropped by WWE due to some problem on a Kuait talk show or something like that. This man could do it all in the ring as well as anyone and was just plain scary. He is the person responsible for taking away Mick Foley's ear, and shocked a lot of people by cleanly beating a lot of big time faces, which just didn't happen back then. From the Rocky Mountains, VADER!

You know what to do by now.

I know EXACTLY what happened here. KB was so moved by the fact that I bumped and posted in his Jericho vs Steamboat thread that he simply HAD to throw me a bone with this one. But I'm too smart for that. I'm not falling for it. THat's right, KB< I saw RIGHT THROUGH your little game.

THANK YOU! AWESOME!

Anyway, one thing that KB does errantly in his opening post was to call this a "big man / little man" feud. Sting was no little man. Not by any stretch. Sting had strength that nearly rivaled Lex Luger, Ultimate Warrior, or El Canek. The reason some see him as a little man is because a) he was such an adept high flyer, and b) he stood in the ring against guys like Vader, who were simply massive.

Vader and Sting wrestled some classics in the early 90's, and truth be told, these men carried the World Title Picture in WCW after Flair jumped ship to WWF. Matches such as the King of Cable tournament finals, the White Castle of Fear (which was an overdone but legit brutal strap match that injured both men), and several others.

Vader has a long history of owning Sting, though Sting was the ONLY man who could go toe to toe with the beast from the Rocky Mountains. In their first match, Vader hit a Vader Splash on Sting, cracking 3 ribs and rupturing Sting's spleen. After Sting recovered, he lost the WCW Title to Vader after missing a Stinger Splash and getting a Vader Bomb for his troubles. In this match, Sting beat Vader by countout prior to his feud with Lex Luger:

With Vader as the WCW champion (and a short feud between Vader and Ron Simmons) Sting got the best of Vader in the King of Cable finals at Starrcade, only to lose (royally) to Vader in the White Castle of Fear strap match. Here's the incredably hokey promo, like a cross between a bad Masters of the Universe sequel and Jabba the Hut's palace:

And the match itself, which Vader won:

Sting won the WCW Title from Vader in London, and lost it back to him 6 days later. Aside from a little known match for the vacant NWA World / WCW International Heavyweight Title, the feud was over after a couple of great years.

Vader really owned the feud. He dominated Stinger physically, and injured him on many occassions. The fact is, as great as Sting has even been, Vader is the one and only person who has ever fully had Sting's number.

I knew that would get IC's response. Now, do I agree with you or not?

To be honest, I'm not sure. You're absolutely right, Vader won the feud, but Sting made Vader look great, and vice versa. If Vader ever had a weakness, it was to people that could fly against him. Sting exploited it, Steamboat did in an underrated match that I always wanted to see a rematch of, and I believe Flyin Brian gave him a good match. In their primes, one on one, I'd take Vader as well.

However, as teh rules have always said, judge this however you'd like, and looking over their whole careers, Sting runs circles around Vader. Vader, at least in America, was only really on top for about 4 years. His stuff with Flair and Sting was just great all around, but after that he kind of fell off the map, until he redebuted in WWF and scared the living hell otu of me when he beat up Taker. Sting on the other hand went toe to toe with the biggest name in wrestling history and in my eyes carried their feud, and had nothing to do with the ending of it bombing. In this country, Vader didn't ever really draw like that. If this were in Japan this would be completely different, but based on the longevity of Sting's dominance, I have to go with him.

It depends how you judge this one really. In a straight fight, as has been shown before Sting comes up short, despite the fact that together they cut the worst promotional videos I have EVER seen.

In the ring Vader had the scary ability to make anything look weak, no matter who he was against. Sting was by no means a small man, but even he was made to look it by a very big guy.

Career-wise however, Sting owns Vader. As has already been pointed out, Vader's career in America, despite squashing the likes of Sting in feuds, as well as big names such as Flair, Steamboat... he never really cracked it in America. He was huge in Japan, but the fact is America's where the names are made. Sting by contrast has made it in every company he's been to. It says a lot when every person in the wrestling world is able to credit Sting as being the biggest name to never make it in the WWE. Normally, to be a success you need the tenure in the 'E, but Sting has managed it without giving VKM the pleasure of making money off his name and that speaks volumes to his ability

Career-wise, at this point, only Hogan, Flair, Austin, Hart, and Michaels are in Sting's league. I will always concede that point.

I still say Vader is the greatest SHW ever, and that he could and would take EVERYONE on the above list, though. He was the most frightening combo of power speed, technique, etc. I have ever seen. And what he did in the ring ALWAYS made sense! If he wanted to look dominating and evil, he'd back you into a corner and hit those short fists and pummel the living shit outta you. If he wanted to put you through the ground, he'd use one of his massive power moves. And if he wanted to give the crowd something to see, he'd hit a moonsault - all 400+ lbs of him.

Let me also say - KB states that "Sting made Vader look good." That's an unfair statement. Both men were terrific in the ring, and as much as Sting sold for Vader, Vader turned around and SOLD those high flyers.

When a high flyer faces a guy like The Big Show, you just know he's getting caught. That's part of what makes a Vader match so special - you're not sure if he's gonna catch the guy or get hit with the move. Vader and Sting had something so special, few other big men / average sized men combos ever did. It was Andre / Hogan all over again.

I realize Vader didn't draw huge in the US, but his heel ability made guys like Sting sell pretty well, considering it was WCW in the pre-Hogan 90's. But when the day is done, Vader remains the one man who always had Sting's number.

Sting is by far my all-time favorite wrestler. He has been since I was like 4. And when I was a kid, there was no one, and I mean no one, who I hated more then Vader. And it was only because of something IC has already stated: that fucker Vader was literally the one guy who could always get the upper hand on Sting. No matter what Sting did, Vader would come out the victor. And because of that, there were plenty of upset nights when I was a kid where I would just get my Sting toy and beat the living shit out of my Vader toy. I only got my mom to buy me a Vader figure only so I could beat his ass up.

Anyway, it's really a shame Sting was the only top babyface in the business who would go out of his way to make Vader look as unstoppable as he did, because Vader had the skills to pull that off against ANYONE. But, unfortunately, he just didn't make the right friends and kiss enough ass.

Nevertheless, I'm voting Sting here. Vader's now one of my all-time favorite wrestlers because of the great memories he gave to me while I was growing up, but there's no way I could ever vote for him over Sting. While I would agree that Vader is the greatest Super Heavyweight of all time, he still wasn't as good as Sting was in my opinion, and he certainly doesn't have the credentials Sting has.

Again, love Vader... but I could never vote for him over Sting. I don't think I could ever vote anyone over Sting to be honest, lol.
