Kurt Angle vs the Top 10

Writers note: If someone reads this post in the future, here are some current real TNA trivia you need to know.

The current TNA Top 10 Contenders are as follows

1. Abyss
2. Jeff Hardy
3. Mr Anderson
4. Samoa Joe
5. Jay Lethal
6. AJ Styles
7. Kurt Angle
8. Hernandez
9. The Pope
10. Rob Terry

Kurt Angle is currently climbing the top 10 rankings He started out of rankings, but has since climbed to number 6. He aims to beat everyone on the list, so he can truly earn a TNA World Title shot and prove he is the best.. If he is to lose, he will quit wrestling.

Rob Van Dam is the World Champion. AJ Styles is the Television Champion.

I will not be trying to clean up the mess that is the Top 10 Rankings in this story. In fact, I may be using the clusterfuck that it is into my writing. My goal in this story is to add a little extra to Kurt Angle's climb.

TNA Impact - August 5th. One week before Impact Special The Whole F'n Show

AJ Styles vs Rob Terry in a rematch for the Television Title. Taz brings up that next week in the Impact special, AJ is going to face Kurt Angle for the # 6 spot in the rankings. As counterpoint, Mike Tenay mentions that as AJ said last week, the Television Title is to be defended on every broadcast, so does that mean that the TV title will be on the line as well? AJ Styles gets the decisive win over Rob Terry.

Backstage, Bischoff has called AJ into his office. He brings up the same question that Mike Tenay asked; how does the TV Title factor in to his match with Kurt Angle next week? AJ Styles is apprehensive to defend against Kurt, so in a bold statement, he offers to pull double duty. AJ will find a challenger for the TV title next week, successfully defend, and retire Kurt Angle all in one night! Eric agrees to AJ's terms.

Later on, Kurt Angle is with JB backstage.

Kurt: I was looking forward to taking AJ's TV title, just as he took my World title months ago. Unfortunately, that's not how the cards have fallen. I can accept that. What I won't accept is beating AJ Styles, and having him use the built in excuse of "Oh, but I already had a match tonight" for losing. I want... no... I need to prove that I am the best wrestler in the entire world. So AJ, I don't care who you pick to fight for the TV title. Next week, you fight me first!

The Whole F'n Show - August 12

As usual, in the fallout of a PPV, the rankings get an unexpected and problematic change. Here are 7 and on, as follows.

7. Kazarian
6. Kurt Angle
5. AJ Styles
4. Matt Morgan
3. Abyss
2. Mr Anderson
1. Jeff Hardy

Writers note; Again, it seems like the top 10 contenders is frigging random anyway. It's a small jumble with the exception of Matt Morgan, but I used only people Kurt hasn't beaten yet, in these rankings, anyway.

Also, for arguments sake, since it hasn't been announced yet, we'll say that the September PPV, No Surrender will take place on September 5th. UPDATE: BOOM! I called it!

Kurt Angle vs AJ Styles for the #6 Spot. Going into the match, Taz mentions that Kurt has been having five star matches with everyone and their mothers on his way up the rankings, but this one's gonna blow the roof off the Impact zone. And yes, we get the Kurt Angle/AJ Styles match we all come to expect, but Kurt wins with a surprise roll up to get the win.

The ref goes to raise Kurt's hand, but Kurt leaves. No longer celebrating his win, but moving onto the next step. Commercial break. AJ beats whoever later.

Announced on tnawrestling.com - Next Week: Matt Morgan vs Kurt Angle for Ranking #4

Impact - August 19th

While over-viewing the card at the top of the show, Taz and Tenay announce Matt Morgan vs Kurt Angle for the #4 position. They say that Kurt Angle demanded this match right away after defeating AJ Styles last week.

Kurt comes out to the ring for the match. Matt Morgan's music plays, but he's a no show. Hulk Hogan comes out with a microphone, and said that Matt Morgan didn't show up tonight, brother, dude, and other things that Hogan says.

Hogan: So, the winner of this match as a result of a no show, and new number fou...

Kurt Angle yanks the microphone from Hogan's hand. He takes a moment to put his thoughts together, stares at Hogan with focus in his eyes.

Kurt: You don't get it, do you? I started this quest up the rankings to prove that I am the best in this business. Do you get it? I need to prove it. If you give me the victory on a technicality, you deny me that opportunity.

Kurt goes on to say that he'll face Matt Morgan next week if he has to. Hogan rebuts by claiming that they need to suspend Morgan, but Angle continues to plead his case. Hogan grants Morgan another week to show up, and Kurt Angle leaves.

Impact - August 26th

On the top of the show, it is announced that Matt Morgan once again did not show up. However, JB joined him earlier this week at his home. The video starts with JB knocking at the door. Matt Morgan greets him... wearing a tank top and boxers, eating a bowl of cereal. Come on in! We enter a slobby home, where through comedy Matt shows off how much he's been enjoying his time off.

JB gets to the point. Why did he no show last week, and why will he not be at Impact this coming week? Why is he avoiding Kurt Angle?

Matt Morgan: Quite frankly, I have nothing to gain from a match with Kurt Angle. He gets a chance at my number four spot, but what do I get? It's too bad he didn't take on AJ for the TV title, because that might have enticed me. Just being the guy who retires Kurt Angle isn't good enough for me, JB. But who knows, maybe that's good enough for, say, #7, Kazarian. Maybe AJ Styles wants his spot back. See, all I have to do is wait for somebody else to beat Angle. Once he's retired, then, and only then, I'll be back. And on top of everything, I have the best guy taking care of me in the Impact zone, making sure I don't get suspended. (To screen, smiling) Thanks, Kurt.

Backstage, watching this, Ric Flair is inspired. He encourages Kazarian to challenge Kurt Angle for his spot. He goes off to find Hogan or Bischoff, and it is later confirmed that #7 Kazarian vs #5 Kurt Angle later tonight.

We indeed get this match. The announcers hype that Kurt Angle has been trying to climb the mountain, and now the mountain is trying to climb him. Kurt Angle, inevitably, gets the win.

Later on, Rob Van Dam is being interviewed by Christie Hemme, hyping his match at Bound for Glory against Jeff Hardy. Halfway through, Kurt Angle approaches, cutting it short. Kurt says he needs a favor.

During a match later on, the announcers plug that RVD went into Hogans office and asked for a title match against Matt Morgan next week!

Impact - September 2nd

At the top of the show, Matt Morgan comes out in his gear. He says he knows what Kurt Angle was trying to do by luring him out with a title match, but unfortunately, Kurt's been outsmarted. He's accepted Rob Van Dam's challenge, only on the condition that it's the first match on Impact, because he knows Kurt Angle won't want to beat a tired, worn out Matt Morgan.

Although it's the first match on Impact, it's still a World Title match, and we get a good one. Lots of near falls, but in the end, RVD takes the cake. Jeff Hardy comes out to celebrate with him, and then Kurt Angle's music plays.

Kurt comes out wearing a suit, completely not ready to wrestle. He is carrying a contract. The contract is for a match at No Surrender for the #4 Spot. Matt Morgan denies. Kurt state that he knew he'd say that.

Kurt takes Matt Morgan down and puts him in the Ankle Lock. He positions him to the contract and puts the grapevine on it. After moments of pain, Matt Morgan signs the contract. Kurt lets go and picks up the contract, immediately walking up the entrance ramp.

In Hogan's office, Kurt Angle hands him the contract. Out of nowhere, BOOM! Carbon Footprint to Kurt. He looks at Hogan.

Morgan: What are you gonna do? You can't suspend me. Kurt Angle has my back.

No Surrender - September 5th

Not heavy on the storyline here, except the story that the match tells. After several frustrating near falls on Angle, Morgan brings him outside. He looks to put Kurt away with the Carbon Footprint into the ringpost despite the warnings from the referee, but he misses and kicks the ringpost straight on. Kurt gets Morgan back in the ring. Morgan is to his feet, and realizes that his ankle is hurt. He sells it well, and a look of terror grows on his face. He turns to look at Angle, and his fears are confirmed. Angle waited until he could see the white in Morgan's eyes. He takes down Morgan and locks in the Ankle Lock. Kurt thrashes back and forth violently, and it doesn't take long from here. Kurt wins spot #4.

Later, RVD beats Jeff Hardy.

To Be Continued

Sorry for the delayed post and the TBC. It's turning out to be more detailed then I thought, and I wanted to post what I have before it falls out of date.
