The thing on Ric Flair's back

With anticipation building that Ric Flair may once again sign with WWE following his departure from Total Nonstop Action Wrestling I thought it was time to take a trip down memory lane - all be it a relatively gross one.

I don't know how many people remember this the same as me but in the later part of the 20th century, back in the 1990's Ric Flair used to have this unsightly lump on his back up near his left shoulder blade from memory.
I used to cringe every time he'd get thrown off the top turn-buckle or take any kind of bump on his back in fear that this thing would burst and clear the whole arena because of the smell.

I always wondered what was that thing? and how and when did he have it removed?
If anyone knows any details about it please share by all means.

I think it's a calcium deposit. It probably was from his plane crash. But I can't remember the thing until the 90's. It probably hurt like hell to take a bump on it.

Omg that's gross! I thought that's what it was too though that's why it used to freak me out so much. I thought it was a sebaceous cyst but I don't know for sure cause I can't find anything online about it, all that comes up if I google it that's related is this post.

Could've been a calcium deposit though as someone else said. The fact he had it so long points to that explanation but there's no solid evidence as yet.
I wonder if Ric Flair has a book where he explains what it is.
