The Significance of the Television

I'm currently waiting to switch my Alberta drivers license to a Pennsylvanian license and I've been waiting an hour and thought what better way than to talk about the significance of the television on the world! I know I'm quite the loser.

The television is an invention that has allowed the broadcasting of ideas and concepts to be publicly shown around the world. It has provided news, humor and thrills and has captivated many a audience. Without the television who knows what the world would be like? Would the world have the same views without that of a television. Hysteria, humor, two polar opposites that both have the same effect entertainment. Where would be without all of this?

Television has changed our world in countless ways. Looking at the positives of television we know what we need to know in simple terms. Everyone recieves basic information that is deemed necessary to know. That's why everyone gets the news. The news is something that significantly has impacted our world. It's efficiency and expediency is something that is unparalleled. The newspaper is something that takes time for it to be mass produced and delivered, the news is a relatively quick concept. Local dangers and precautions can be sent all at once which in turn keeps us safer.

Entertainment is necessary for any human being to live without becoming lethargic. Comedy and smiles makes the world seem like a nicer place. The television has allowed mass means of comedy to be sent to the world. The free stations ironically also produce a lot of comedies and this in turn has caused people to experience laughter. This significance to an overall population is also quite good for the world and people's sanity.

In addition the airing of information and knowledge has never been so easily accesible. Sure the Internet can be called more efficient however the vastness and intrigue in the information you're processing has been very much elevated by the Television.


However all that glitters isn't always gold. There has also been negative aspects of the television which has impacted our world.

Look at the constant need for being involved in people's lives. There is no privacy there is no hiding everything you do is broadcasted and elevated. The television has significantly impacted the role of the person and has added scrutiny to the actions people do. There is inherently more focus upon petty actions then importance of real events. Celebrities sell... Economic sanctions in Uganda do not... Should it be the other way around probably however the television has undermined current events. This is a negative impact to the world we live in.

The television has also added significance in aspiring providing an outlet for obesity. The impact that it has on kids is something that is scary and needs to be fixed. Kids and cartoons share a scary precedent for being laxodasical at a young age.


So wrestlezone I ask you the television how else do you think it is significant?

Television has in essence changed everything from the flow of information, to entertainment, to how a person spends their evening. Television is a cheap form of entertainment that almost everyone can enjoy. Coming from a not so rich family television was often the one constant form of entertainment I could enjoy as a kid. Since the 50's television has been a prevalent part of society and has many uses. From getting the masses information much quicker, to watching sitcoms and other television shows we like or hate, to watching a movie and playing a video game, to watching netflix from your PS3 or computer (which can also be hooked up to your TV), it's a very practical and useful invention in the world as it has always been. Much like the world wide web a television changed the world and changed it forever and was a major catalyst for the information age we live in today.

The obvious positives are stuff already mentioned. Entertainment from watching sports to the news, the creation of other devices like a Blu Ray player, flow of information like the news and its cheap enough that everyone can own one.

With all the positives though you could find a negative for each one of them. Because the entertainment is so diverse and easy to use it gives people a reason not to get off the couch. Instead of going to a movie you can just chill on your couch, instead of picking up a newspaper just go to your couch, ect. Essentially because its such a cheap, accessible form of entertainment its so very easy for people to become lazy because you can be entertained without having to do anything. Instead of going out to a play you just watch it on TV, instead of going to a sports game you can just watch it on TV.

Most inventions through history were made for humans to do things easier so they could be lazier, the television is no different. Phones were made so you could communicate from inside your home, cars were made so people could travel easier without much effort, same with plains, trains and all other modes a transportation found in Green Eggs and Ham. This whole conversation reminds me of something I saw on Big Bang Theory:

Raj: "Come on Sheldon lets go outside, outside is good!"

Sheldon: "If outside is so good then why has man spent thousands of years trying to perfect inside?"

Although outside is awesome for a lot of people that quote rings true. Hell even when you see people camping these days they come in giant RV's. Not everyone does it but people who can afford it more often than not will. Why set up a tent and sleep on the grass when you can sleep inside with a roof, shower, stove, oven and TV at your disposal?

I know a lot of people who like to go out on a Friday night, I also know a lot of people that want to chill at home and watch a movie and I also know a lot of people who can only afford a TV so they don't go out on a Friday night.

Much like every other invention television is a catalyst to be lazy but only if you let it.

Also TV is definitely a way for others to stick their noses in peoples business whether it be a celebrity, sports star or anyone else on this planet although I don't know if that's necessarily a TV thing as it is a human thing. The internet seems to be much worse for stuff like that it seems and even before TV gossiping and sticking your nose in others business was fairly common, the television just made it easier to do so.

Although negatives can be associated with TV these negatives would always be around, it wouldn't be as common but it would still be around. As awesome as a TV is too much of anything isn't a good thing but because a TV has so many uses its so easy to use it too much.

A phone can be a way to talk about something important or it can be used to set off a bomb. Sadly there will always be people who will turn an invention as a TV and use it in a negative way, that's how some humans are unfortunately.
