The Seventh Friend

Mr. TM

Throwing a tantrum
I won't go too deep into this. Friends, a sitcom that lasted for 10 years, had millions of fans, but always had 6 people on every episode. Rachel, Monica, Phoebe, Ross, Joey, and Chandler. That was the set six.

Many people tried to break into that group. Some were related (Joey's sisters, Ursela, parents, children) and so forth. Some were friends of the friends. Some where lovers of the friends. Some where pets of the friends. Some were co workers of the friends. This could go on and on. But who was the closest to becoming the seventh friend.

My pick, which I would even dispute often is Gunther. I think he appeared the most on TV, over the years, always constant. Many came and then left. But not Gunther, he was there is the early seasons, and he was there in the later seasons. He came to parties, worked with Rachel, and for a short time Joey, he even had a crush on Rachel for most of the series. He is as I would call him, the seventh friend.

Mike was he 7th friend, played by the great Paul Rudd. Hell, he was around for more than a full season, married Phoebe, had a few episodes build around him, etc. He was funny in his own ways, interacted with all of the other Friends, and was memorable by his characters name in its own right.

Both of Rachel's sisters were contemptable, and neither lasted more than 2 or 3 episodes. Gunther was funny, but never really spent personal time with the gang, and also was the one who broke the news of Ross and Copy Store Girl to Rachel, effectively ending them. So he's out. Ursula never met anyone other than Phoebe that I can remember. Richard was an ex-, so despite his long run on the show and the fact that he got along quite well with everybody - even Chandler after he was with Monica - his role as Monica's first serious BF on the show disqualifies him. Same goes for Charlie, and palentologist.

It's Mike, played by Paul Rudd. He's the 7th Friend. Hands down.

Well Ursula did meet the other friends, even having a relationship with Joey, and coming to the Halloween party.

I would disagree with Mike from the point of longitity. He was only on the show near the end, connecting to one if not the weakest friends. Phoebe and Mike could disappear and no one would notice.

I would have to agree that it’s Mike for all the reasons you stated. He was the “Outsider” that made it all the way through to the end. If the show hadn’t ended, he would still be around as the 7th Friend.
