The 'Russel Group' of Universities

Can go fuck themselves.

Students should pay higher fees to go to university in England, says the Russell Group of leading universities.

The group's submission to Lord Browne's funding review sets out how the £3,225-a-year fee could rise to £9,000 without extra costs in taxpayers' subsidies.

"An increase in graduate contributions is the fairest and only viable option for addressing the funding shortfall," says the Russell Group statement.

Students described the proposals as a "nightmare scenario".

The National Union of Students said this lifting of the cap on fees would mean "mortgage-style debts" of more than £40,000.

So basically, all the posh fuckers who have mummy and daddy paying their fees will still be fine to go, but we don't want anyone from a working-class backgrounds.

It's the same in America. You want to go to college, you have three options:

1. Scholarship
2. Huge debt
3. Rich family

Otherwise you're screwed.

You're rich. Want to send me to Uni? For all the emotional suffering you just caused me with the last 2 PMs.

These kind of groups make me sick.

Agreed.

If you look at it though, a bachelors degree isn't worth much anymore. To get anywhere you have to have a masters degree, an by that time if you don't have rich parents you are so in debt its not even funny.

The rich get richer, the poor get poorer and the world just carries on turning.

Then again, I'm middle class so I'm footing the bill for Britain's economic restructuring. Uncool.

what happened to our so called friends the Liberal Democrats?

they where supposed to lobby to get tuition fee's abolished and by far they have just swallowed their own damn prides in order to follow this damn coallition government.

The worst part of this scenario if it comes into play is that new students like my kids (when they eventually go to uni) will be riled in debt, It won't hurt people like me who are half way through their university study, but it will hurt those who envisioned themselves studying at university level which is hard enough without thinking about finances.

basically it is as Sam has said, the only way anyone in the lower class can even think of going uni is if their parents are prepared for the huge debt that ensues, which is really sad.

And yes i agreed Becker the rich fuckers should all go fuck themselves, they think their doing this all for the lower and middle class, they are more interested in sorting out jobs for their rich families or becoming a lord because it heightens their status.

:banghead: They don't care about the rest of us!

To be fair, they're junior partners in a coalition government and they've done an excellent job in dulling the Conservatives' sharp edges. Tuition fees are very unlikely to go up during this Parliament if the Tories want to prevent their government falling apart. These are just greedy universities crying about how they want their pile of money to be bigger - there's no actual proposals from anyone within the government.

But are they?, are they actually helping people at this point, yes the lower class wont be effected by all of the cuts in yesterdays emergency budget, but alot of middleclass families will suffer.

And remember alot of these greedy universities have alumni and boardmembers who are usually apart of our government, so you better believe they are trying to push this through.

So well see what happens with this.

I get #2, that fits me. 70k in debt and I havent even finished my BA yet. And you're screwed with #2 because you need to pay it back.
