The Miz Featured in Article on MSN Homepage

Occasional Pre-Show
I just thought that some of you would be interested to know that there is an excellent article about Mike Mizanin on the MSN homepage. There has been a lot of talk concerning his legitimacy as champion but like him or not, he is getting the WWE lots of mainstream attention which is great in this case. It is an excellent article and gives a bit of insight into how he really is as a person instead of the cocky character we see on tv.

The amount of press that he's getting has really surprised me. In fact, I think that he's actually surprised by it as well. I was upset with the way that he was being booked on Monday, but I've figured out what kind of champion he will be. He's going to be the "Ric Flair" type of heel champion. He's going to make whoever he works with look like a million bucks. They will beat his ass all over the ring and they will look like they are "The Man" just like Flair did for Sting and Luger all those years ago.

So, short term memory issues and bad eyesight all round I take it?

This a very small article and a section that few people read. He was a mediocre reality tv 'star' so that gives the 'mainstream' media an excuse to eek out a few column inches without seeming too uncool by talking about WWE. This is miniscule compared to some of the headlines during the rock & wrestling and attitude eras, so calm down - it's not new and it's not impressive.

As for what type of champ Miz(erable) will be, yes we did get a glimpse last week. He's a weak champ who can't even beat an out of shape 'legend' who's been sitting on his arse for years without assistance. As for making JKL look good, really? The match stunk, add that to the Michael Cole spot, and Miz(erable) comes out with no credit. But I guess as long as he talks ok and kisses ass backstage, we'll have to endure him as champ (or chump). The only grace being WM is near and there's no chance of him being in the ME, so he'll drop the strap soon. PV

He's a former reality TV star so I expected he'd get some press, but he's been getting quite a bit. I don't remember the last time a new champ was crowned and created so much buzz in the media. Hats off to Miz, though.

And to the poster above, I agree. He made Jerry Lawler look great in his match for the title and if he can make King look good then imagine what he'll be able to do with other opponents. He's a good storyteller inside the ring.

*cough* Mark *cough* (In regards to Malenko316)

His match was Lawler was one of the better Main events I've seen on Raw in a while. Very dramatic, and great job of story telling...but I wouldn't put that all on Miz. I think King did a good bit of in-ring storytelling.

That said, I think Miz will make a great champ, and I think he'll carry the belt into Mania. Miz has been busting his ass in the business, and ever improving. He deserves this.

I love that all of the media outlets are picking up on this. I think it's good for the Biz, and good for the Miz. Miz has been shaking hands and kissing babies for the last two years, so this is only the beginning, I feel.

All you Miz haters (and you are starting to sound like Cena haters) get used to it. Miz came to play, and he is here to stay.

:) hell yeah! haha.

the point is, Miz is getting more mainstream attention than many recent champs....he is very entertaining, and generates a huge reaction, whether negative or positive.... if you really HATE him, then i guess he is doing a good job, because you can't wait to see him lose... i personally really enjoy the miz and like to see someone with a more average/regular joe physique win the title.. and he IS a heel, so of course he is not supposed to look like superman... i like the comparison to ric flair (see posts above)... miz is playing a very nice heel role.

I have always liked The Miz. But, being a fan of this business for numerous years, I understand the concern or hate that a lot of fans have for him. I personally like that he doesn't necessarily fit the standard mold of past World Champs. I think that is a good thing. It shows that anyone has a shot. And talent comes in many different sizes, shapes and aspects of the business.

I am glad he has brought so much attention to himself and the company, by winning the title. It shows what he brings to the table and shows how anyone could benefit by having this guy around. In his short time as champion, I believe he has shown he deserves being in the spotlight, because he actually gets Main Stream attention and that is what WWE wants.

Actually it is what any company wants.... As much attention as possible. And like it not, The Miz is an answer to the question, Who can get WWE in Main Stream Media and help casual fans tune in?

Neither is John Cena. It was a different era. An era where wrestling was the mainstream type of entertainment.

it's not new and it's not impressive.

Why isn't it? A few months back, could you really see The Miz in an artical on any website that wasn't wrestling related? No. Of course its impressive.

Jerry still wrestles when he's allowed to on the independent scene. He's not that out of shape. Anyways, Jerry has won more championship than anyone in the history of wrestling. He's a credible challenger if Ric Flair or Vince McMahon can still wrestle. Its been reported that the WWE wants a underdog type champion. They want it to where in every match, you're wondering what could happen. Their TLC did just that. For a minute or two, I bet you thought Jerry could slip away with the win.

Kissing ass backstage? I wouldn't put it that way. As long as you draw heat from the crowd in massive doses, of course he should be champion. And did the match really suck? Check any wrestling forum, what's the most talked about match of the week? Jerry Lawler and the Miz. The match served its purpose and for that reason, it was a great match.

The only grace being WM is near and there's no chance of him being in the ME, so he'll drop the strap soon.

I wouldn't be so sure. The WWE seems pretty high on him. I mean they've got people like you causing pointless chaos over the Miz as WWE Champion, he's stirring up controversy and we all know "Controversy creates cash". He's getting main stream attention, he's really doing his job as WWE Champion. In my opinion, he's a perfect fit to be champion. I mean when's the last time Randy Orton's got attention like this? Its been a while. You better get use to the Miz because he's going to be everywhere for the next few months.

You want to be successful in the WWE? You had better kiss ass backstage.

I said it before, the Miz is probably the most media friendly champ that the WWE has has in years. Face it, no one outside of the world of sports entertainment cares if Randy Orton, Sheamus, or hell, even John Cena, wins the title.

I noticed this too .. with the WWE and McMahon desperately seeking Mainstream attention do you think this means Miz will have a longer title run even upto the point of defending at WM27. Cean and The Miz are looking to be the most media friendly WWE superstars right now, and one might think the WWE will capitalize this to improve the WM buy rates.

I'm more surprised by how shocked everyone else is by his exposure. The guy runs cons, press events, and television shows like he's a dork, and he's personable enough that kids and adults like him face to face. Couple that with his (scripted?) ability to get heat/pops and give me one good reason he shouldn't have the belt.

WWE Chairman Vince McMahon is said to be very happy with current Heavyweight Champion Mike "The Miz" Mizanin.

"Miz is doing exactly what John Cena did to get over with The Boss," a key backstage figure told WrestleZone this evening, "he's doing every possible media appearance, especially on his days off, and has been WWE 24/7 since given the push."

Miz has not only been doing interviews lined up by WWE's publicity department, but has set up a series of his own leads to promote his reign as WWE Champion.

"Miz knows guys like HHH are just waiting to bury him behind the scenes," WrestleZone was told, "he's seen it happen to a lot of people, even Cena and Orton at times, and he's determined not to let the backstabbers take this push away from him!"

Vince should be happy about The Miz. He is working his ass off trying to become a star like Cena and Orton. The Miz always had dedication to WWE whether he was on The Real World or being John Morrison's sidekick. I'm proud of him and if he continues to work harder, he might be the Next JOHN CENA!( Yeah I said it IWC)

What do you think about Vince being happy with The Miz? Is he too over right now or is he the next biggest star?

I hope the reports are true. Simply because Im selfish and know the Miz is the most entertaining guy in the business. The more he gets over, the more tv time he gets on a monday night and so the more I get entertained. I dont want to say the new Cena, because Cena may have the worst character since Hogan (and that was lame enough). The Miz could become as big a star as the great one, he has that mainstream aura about him. I have lots of friends who hate wrestling but still like Miz, the Rock's the only guy I think has had that ability to get over before I believe. The WWE have struck gold with the Miz. I hope they follow it through.

Miz(erable)

That is easily the worst pun Ive ever heard...and Im British we get a newspaper called The Sun which is based on shit puns.

I didn't want to hijack the thread, and normally I don't when I see this type of nonsense, but this was beyond ridiculous.

As for the rest of your post. I can only give my own british point of view. From that I know, for a fact the Miz is getting more attention in the media than Lesnar, Cena and Orton added together. Over here no-ones given a shit since the Rock. The Miz is making people pay attention again.

Hating the Miz may have overtaken hating Cena as the new passtime. But fact is, the Miz has secured the WWE's short to medium time future, because people care about him. Even you care enough to bitch about him on the internet, something he probably loves and vindicates everything he does.
