The Marine Franchise - WWE Studios

Hard Hit Prince

Not really working as a
I've recently watched all three movies of The Marine, a WWE Studios action movie, generally lead by a former/current US Marine that somehow gets into some problems with a gang of criminals. It's generally a basic WWE old-school storyline where the good guy must face incredible odds against him in order to capture and defeat the bad ones to rescue someone more fragile (always women though).

All the characters are likable, but they are as one dimensional as one can be. The Miz's character is actually the one where we got to see some depth, and even that was scarce. Jake Carter (The Miz) is a family man, he's been away for so long that he no longer knows how to deal with his two sisters, who seemingly don't want his authority and kind of blame him for leaving. In a way, Jake Carter isn't the all mighty hero that Triton (John Cena) was. He's just a guy who suffers from the cliche drama of a former military man who just doesn't know how to adjust to society anymore.

With The Marine 4: Morving Target coming up this spring, we get to see for the first time a sequel to one's character actually being developed. This movie follows a very very successful run: "The Marine 3: Homefront was released on DVD and Blu-ray on March 5, 2013, where it grossed $3,384,892 on U.S. sales. It placed at #12 on the top DVD sales, and #15 on top Blu-ray sales."

From a Direct-To-DVD standpoint, this movie could be easily considered a success. The original Marine had a budget of $20,000,000 and it got a theatrical release to a domestic gross that didn't reach the break-even point. Now, for the fourth movie, we have a $2,000,000 budget.

  • So, Are you a fan of The Marine movies, for what they are (popcorn movies, nothing fancy or too difficult to understand)? Regardless of you're a fan or not, simply explain what's your take on WWE Studios movies and what would you do to improve it.

[*]If The Marine IV's able to actually put Jake Carter and whatever role Summer Rae is playing, do you think a cross over movie with John Cena's Original Role as Triton would be a good move in order to gain some more interest?
