The Great Khali

Dark Match Jobber
Ok so the Great Khali has been a joke for the past few years we are know that the only time Khali could be taken seriously is when he first debut as a heel and taken out everyone in his path.

My question is what would you do with Khali if you were vince? would you release him? or would you turn him HEEL ? maybe even give him a new gimmick if you had complete power of his WWE Career what would you do with him? what feuds would you book him in please discuss :)

There's a thread about the great khali quite often, which tells me that people still care about him, khali is not a waste of space, khali is either a jobber or a main eventer, if wwe booked it right, khali could be in the main event quickly!
there would be comments like why is wwe pushing him after awhile no one would even care that khali has did nothing in 8 years, i like khali its almost time for khali to hang up the boots, so i say give em one more run as a main eventer and then retire him.

WWE will never let go of the Great Khali. His height is an attraction and he's foreign, meaning fans of his descent have something to cheer for at live events. Right now, he obviously is only used for comic relief... but I'd love to see him as a heel again. I absolutely loved it when he first debuted, and he took out The Undertaker AND won the World Heavyweight Championship (when it actually meant something, of course). Great Khali needs a mouthpiece, however, and that's where I'd cue Jinder Mahal. He looks out of place in 3MB. I'd say make him Khali's manager, and have him work up the ranks until he's reached the World Heavyweight Championship. Maybe even bring back the Punjabi Prison Match.

Making a superstar a heel does not automatically generate interest.

This is probably why WWE doesn't want to put Khali in any major role. And honestly I cannot blame them. He's an attraction at best.

He's good enough as a comedy act to be honest. That suits him a lot better than an ambling monster heel that can barely move. That way he gets a reaction from fans without fucking up a match too badly.

Khali can barely walk to the ring any more, let alone wrestle in it. There is nothing exciting about a Great Khali match and turning him heel is not going to help. Too many dance contests and snake charmings have turned him into an absolute joke. So much that if he disappeared from my television for good I wouldn't even notice.

They are using the last of him now and they know it. His problem is that he left his surgery far too late unlike Big Show. Acromegaly is a killer, the WWE knows it and Khali by leaving it so late has shortened his life. They may give him a push now so they can safely let him go without damaging their standing in India. He'll get another PPV title match but he'll lose it and go on his way and then in a few years you'll hear he died... sad but true.

I have always like The Great Khali. Lets face it his is very limited. I did like him better as the monster heel, and I hope they go back to that one more time before he finishes up. It can be hard to believe that a man of his size can actually lose as much as he does. I would like him to see him go on a run much like Mark Henry did when he started the Hall of Pain when he won the world title. I could easily see Khali get sick of being a comedy show and start ripping through the roster. I am guessing though he probably isn't in the best health, and will probably just keep doing what he is doing until he finally can't go at all anymore.

His problem is that he left his surgery far too late unlike Big Show. Acromegaly is a killer, the WWE knows it and Khali by leaving it so late has shortened his life.

Not necessarily. Pio Pico, Governor of California in the mid-19th century, suffered from acromegaly. The surgery, obviously, was not available, yet he lived to the age of 93. Richard Kiel, (Jaws in the Bond movies), is still going in his mid 70's. He does use a motorised wheelchair, but this is due to a car crash rather than the disease. Antonio Silva and Abraham Lincoln are/were also sufferers of acromegaly. It is not always a killer, it is sometimes but not all. If you compare Khali to Andre, there is a huge difference. Andre, because of his size (mainly the breadth of his back), couldn't really go to the theatre, cinema, etc, and so spent most of his time in bars, drinking amounts of alcohol that would lay out an elephant. Khali, on the other hand, is a hindu (I believe), meditates every day, doesn't drink, smoke, or any of the other vices that Andre had. He has looked after his body very well, and will, in all probability, live a reasonably long life.

Khali is someone whose usefulness is pretty limited in my eyes. While it's true he's an extremely big man, freakishly big when you take into account the fact that he has a ton of muscle mass whereas most men in his general height range don't, this isn't 1975 or even 1995 for that matter. A lot of fans just aren't impressed by wrestlers who are giants or have herculean physiques. I believe that's partially due to wrestling losing some of its mystique in the modern era, which isn't necessarily a bad thing in this case in my opinion. Contrary to popular belief, most of the biggest stars in the history of WWE haven't been these 6'6" or more, 300+ pound mountains of muscle. An even greater majority haven't been guys around or in excess of 7 feet in height. When people see Khali and compare him to legends, modern stars or even indie stars like Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, Kurt Angle, Triple H, Ric Flair, Randy Savage, Ricky Steamboat, CM Punk, Daniel Bryan, Dolph Ziggler, Jeff Hardy, Antonio Cesaro, Kassius Ohno, Sami Zayn, Chris Benoit, Rey Mysterio, The Shield, etc., they see a guy who really can't wrestle. He's extremely limited and does his best despite his limitations, but he really does come off awful when you compare him to those guys I listed and many others I didn't. When he was a heel, how often did you hear the "you can't wrestle" chant break out when Khali was out there in a match?

A surprising number of people seem to like Khali in the role he has now, the role of the sorta fun loving, dancing gentle giant. It doesn't do much for me but I don't flat out hate it either, due in large part to the fact that Khali isn't on television all that often. I'd feel much different if he popped up in every other segment and was in the midst of a big push. He gets pretty decent pops and people enjoy seeing him come out every once in a while and knock guys like 3MB around. Khali, in my eyes, looked more useful than he has in a long time during his recent tag matches against The Real Americans in which he was put in the Cesaro Swing. This is definitely an instance of where Khali's size was a genuine benefit because, frankly, Cesaro performing that move on a guy Khali's size made him look like a friggin' beast. Khali is a legit 7'1'' or 7'2'' and about 350 pounds or so. The average American male is about 5'8" and weighs around 180-190 pounds, it impresses fans more these days to see giants on the receiving end of power moves rather than give them as they're simply not awed by these guys' size they way they were 20-40 years ago.

The only real reason I can think of as to why Vince still has Khali on the roster, from a business perspective, is that he must be a good draw among Indian viewers of WWE programming. India is the 10th largest economy in the world and is expected to be in the top 5 in less than 20 years. It's current population is at 1.210 billion, so imagine just 1 or 2% of the population watched WWE programming, which would be between 12& 24 million viewers.

Question: What do you think would happen in a shoot fight between Big Show and The Great Khali?

If you answered: "Who cares?" you'd be close to the mark, of course. But if the shoot did happen, Show might kill Khali, don't you think? Every time I see Khali staggering down the aisle like Frankenstein (neither of them bend their knees when they walk) I wonder if he's even going to make it to the ring apron. I don't know what else might be wrong with him because of his extreme size, but he's certainly slimmer than Big Show and you might think he could move a little faster. But no, because of those damn knees of his. I don't think Khali could deliver a hard shot if he wanted to, but it would be interesting to see him try.

He has his function and he performs it. His offense looks ridiculous with those open-handed chops delivered to his opponent's head......which are brought so slowly that Katie Vick could get out of the way before they landed.

Still, he has that height and it's earned him a job in the U.S. and a following in his home country. Don't put him in any more PPV contests, unless it's a battle royale. Other than that, leave him alone to do what he does. Some fans seem to enjoy it and that's enough reason to allow it.

I would continue doing with him what WWE does with him. They put him on TV and young kids stop on that channel and watch something that seems straight out of their storybooks. He's not there to carry a show. He's there in the hope that someone with an imagination will catch him and maybe get hooked on professional wrestling. I showed my wife Cesaro giving Khali the Hurling Wurlitzer. She was amazed, she's still embarrassed to have me as a husband and questions her judgment for marrying me but seeing that feat caught her attention. Imagine what a little kid would think? Or better yet, dream?

Was that too dramatic? It felt a little too dramatic.

watched him on raw on monday 7th oct and im sure he was counting himself out when antonio cesaro pinned him

I said it a while back and I'll say it again. Khali should be the world heavyweight champion. Del Rio's been dead in the water character-wise for a long time. Sandow is like 1-456 since winning the briefcase. I never liked Ziggler so I don't want to see him win. So that leaves Cesaro and Khali and since Cesaro is being dragged down by Swagger (which pains me to say), the obvious choice is Khali. Hell, put Khali against Cesaro. It could be the new-age Lesnar/Show.

I would have turned him heel. It appears that WWE had the same plan, i.e. when Jinder Mahal debuted, Khali turned heel briefly, before taking a break and returning as a joke...
Anyway, if not anything else, it would be a fresh change- after seeing him do the same stuff like dancing and head chops for quite a while. I personally really disliked him when he was a hell, like that time when he was about to Khali-bomb a diva (Lilian? Ashley?) and Jerry Lawler saved her but got beaten up instead; or be it his style of putting one foot on the fallen opponent... So if he goes back to doing devilish-unstoppable-giant activity like those, then that would be great to watch; atleast better than what he is doing now.

Khali should be someone's bodyguard. Preferably to a smaller heel. Someone like Tyler Breeze if he ever gets called up. Kind of like how Ezekiel Jackson was to The Brian Kendrick.
