The demented sociopathic gimmick

hArdyPUNKmArk

I'm better than you!
I've been watching a fair few old Mankind matches and stuff and I forgot how intrigued and interested in this character I was. And also how creeped out and anxious he made me feel.

What I'm getting at is do you think we will ever see such a deeply disturbed character again? Someone that could cut as amazing a promo as Mick could, someone with the right costume/attire and someone that can portray that in the ring.

I just loved Mick's idea for Mankind. The mask was perfect and the weird school boy thing and matted hair. His promo's were top notch and so sadistic. I know Abyss in TNA is a... well attempt at a similar character but I really don't like Abyss, he's very dull and extremely boring.

Anyways, bit of a ramble. My bad.

What I'm wanting to know is what are your feelings on Mankind and/or his gimmick? What did you like or dislike about him and do you think we will ever see someone that could pull that sort of character off as well as Foley did?

I wouldn't think so these days, couldn't see it in a PG world. But I really do miss the Mankind personality and his promos.

These days, the "disturbed" gimmick is pushed somewhat. Abyss, Kane and even Orton to a certain extent. But because of the PG rating, someone with that gimmick will never be pushed full force like Mankind again. And it'll never be their primary gimmick either, merely part of their personality.

I am a HUGE Foley fan. I was actually watching the Greatest stars of the 90's DVD the other day and saw the Triple H vs. Mankind cage match. I'd forgotten just how much I loved the Mankind character. Foley brought something to the business that probably will never be seen again. He was a great promo, and could juggle between 2 or 3 gimmicks at a time (Mankind/Dude Love/Cactus Jack). He pulled off the deranged gimmick so well......just the image of seeing him smile after being thrown off the Hell in a Cell and then through it.......the only bad thing I have to say is that the soft piano music when he won matches.....what was that about??? I mean.......I guess it fits with the character......I guess that I just didnt like it personally......other than that, NO complaints from me

A lot of people have tried to use this gimmick. I wish they would of went along with it for Randy it was going good then they ruined it. Hes not a big powerhouse but it was still kinda cool. No one who trys this will ever be the same Mick. He had the perfect music, costume, act, and moves to go along with it. So if others try it it won't be the same but i do believe some can get close.

I agree with most of your post. He was so good at switching between those personalities and could tell the perfect demented story.

I actually loved the music though, especially with his entrances. Very creepy .

Three words...Foley Is God. I think he was almost like a 2nd coming of Jake Roberts. Maybe didn't look the part of a pro wrestler, but his combination of abilities...working a crowd, his ring psychology and intelligence are amazing.
